Stand second to you, I should not be much worried about how the dealer manages to get me a color of my choice whether or not it is in his current fleet. But still wanted to make sure that me pushing on delivery date should not allow them to cut corners and compromise on "Quality of Vehicle".

I got the PDI downloaded.

How soon I dealer would be able to get me the VIN after placing the order?
That depends , maybe xuv or storme owners can guide you here by telling when they got their VIN numbers after booking .

The dealers can't cut corners w.r.t quality as the xuv or storme will not be made in their stockyard it will come from a assemble line [:)]

We're they can cut corners are

1) sell you a old car from their stockyard telling you it is new

2) or selling you test driven vehicle .

In both instances you will ask the VIN number and check it on the car too if it matches and that will easily tell you in which month the car was made .

W.r.t quality control issues you will do PDI by yourself to figure out if there are any obvious issues .

Remember PDI and VIN verification do that before the dealer registers the car Only after that Do your formalities and then proceed with the needful like payment , insurance and the usual things .

Dear Suhas,

The only decision you need to make right now is - decide on a car.

Once decided, book the car and ask for an approximate delivery date. Even if the dealer delays the delivery by a 4-6 days, you have nothing to lose.

There will not be any compromise in the quality of the car as M&M will not make a car faster than its usual production time for you.

Also, if the selected colour is in stock, the dealer will give you the VIN number as soon as you make the full payment. DO NOT send the papers for registration until you do a thorough PDI and you are satisfied with the vehicle.

If the colour is not in stock, it depends on when the dealer will get that colour in stock. As soon as the car lands in his stockyard, he will give you the VIN number. I guess the dealer will have enough stock of white, silver and black cars.

I got my VIN number the moment I made the balance payment.

Finally, take it one step at a time - decide on which car you want first.

Not to worry about the quality of the vehicle as the dealer can't do anything in that but yes make sure he is not providing you an old vehicle.

We got the VIN same day we made the booking as the dealer had the XUV in their stockyard.

But when we purchased EON we got our VIN no in 3 days which was when the car was allotted to us from the company.

Up on Consolidating the TD experiences and Applied inputs from friends online and we realized there is no obvious winner between these two cars, but we need to select one and the decision was made.

It was a tough call still. We started of migrating to XUV but Storme was never under our family consideration. I inserted that in the middle. With most difficulty I pulled them to TATA show room. All the elders (my wife and mom) and I fell flat after looking at Black Storme in Show room. We thought we would close on it. Kids were not excited at all with our elation. In last couple of days, slowly My mom and wife have started switching their side and moved towards kids. Kids left the decision to me.

Then I started looking at things more closely, what would have my dad do in similar situation like this if he had been with us. He had done everything to keep his kids happy. BTW, Today is my Dad's B' day too and he is always there in our thoughts. The moment that came to my mind things looked very clear to me. We arrived the decision.

Literally Kids pulled it their way. We all are happy with the decision. Tomorrow will go to the dealer to finish the booking formalities.

[:)][:)][:)] We decided on XUV500.

@Suhas,

Congratulations on your decision. Yes XUV 500 and Safari Storme both go neck to neck with their own capabilities.

So which color have you finalised ?? I wish you a hassle free buying experience with Mahindra[:)]

Congrats on your choice Suhas. Finally after a lot of confusion, you could decide on which car you wanted.

Even I am curious to know the colour and variant and what made you choose the XUV?

What point in time I am supposed to pay my entire component? The dealer is under impression that they would do the PDI and did not I expect I will ask for that. Banker tells he can release the cheque today it self. Today we are here for booking and I am asking for one week deliver. Looks like they can do it. I also told them to not to cut any corners due to short time delivery.

Could you please list sequence of steps from your experience?

1) Ask them if they have the vehicle in stock.
2) If yes, tell them you need the VIN number as soon as you do the full payment, which you said you can do today. Also tell them, you will do your own PDI and visit their stockyard to see the vehicle.
3) If they dont have the vehicle in stock, you can either make the full payment and wait for the vehicle or tell the sales executive that you will make the full payment once the vehicle arrives in their stockyard and they have the VIN number.
4) Sorry if I am judging you, but dont be over critical when you are doing PDI on your assigned car!
5) Give them the registration documents only after you are satisfied with the assigned vehicle.

Congratulations again.

also do not expect a shining vehicle in the stockyard. it would be covered in dust and the disc brakes would have some traces of rust.

all of those things will be taken care of.

This would really help.

I might have sounded a bit more over cautious than what I am. SA told me that they would swap and give me a vehicle since I wanted in a week time. It should not so happen that due to my pressure they skip a few steps.

Stockyard is quiet far from actual show room. Going by the SA expression, looks like not many have done PDI themselves before the registration. In fact, this will be first car I am doing it for my self too. All my previous cars that I own are really hassle free [:)] SA is will be taking to me to the yard. Bank Loan got approved and they will transfer the money straight to the dealers A/C.

My Fiesta is not too happy with my new Car hunt and the driver side window stopped suddenly rolling up. They are replacing the regulator (3K) now. It was cloudy last two days so I was able to manage without A/C. But it knows this not something I can get away without fixing, with Mosquitos & unpredictable rains. What a way to pull my attention honey?

Dealer has quoted 2.5L and top of it there is 15K exchange bonus. I am not sure whether it is a decent price for 2006 Fiesta petrol version? I am yet to get estimates from a different guy.

In the mean time, is that a reasonable price? If not, I am thinking of keeping it so that for any quick trips I can pull this one. Just don't want to sell in case it is priced low.

Any suggestions?
