what about verna, Elantra, Sonata, Santefe, Tuscan, gets etc
These all can be termed as Failures especially the older gen ones. Old Elantra, Sonata, Tuscon, Terracan, Santa Fe were all big duds. The Getz managed decent numbers but was complete failure compared to Swift which was the lone rival foe it.

Sonata & Elantra is not a failure. Lack of diesel engine in last decade pushed it off shelve, that's it.

@furious_driver,

The thing is, we live in an opinionated world. Every one has an opinion on every thing. And with that there are mediums to express it, however absurd it may be, in the name of the 'democracy'. The same applies to the world of automobile.

Show me one person in this forum who is not an enthusiast. You'll hardly find any. Yet there are people here who have bought Hyundai.

Have you not seen the criticism of TATA? Well, Hyundai doesnt get even half of it.

Yes, Sonata & Elantra were not having Diesel engines, but wasn't this the same case with Honda for thier Civic & Accord & Toyota for thier Corolla which were all big sellers when they were there here. The Petrol only CRV was a hit compared to the Diesel Only Tuscon & Terracan which were duds.

At one point you are going on saying the same thing, i agree some points from your side, Hyundai is a car for common man, but he/she must know the cons of hyundai na.
Mos of us openly say the facts that we know based on 90% driving experiences-
Handling is not a simple segment to neglect,it is also a basic element in buying a car.

Also some other member added-Where to take speed in Indian roads?

There are many places and highways guys to throttle on, one of my friend is a professional racer,he has valid pass for racing on some of the highways in India.

Its not on speed, its on how safe we handle in the speeds.

I'm a perpetual Maruti hater. Maruti's "Customer takes whatever and whenever I give" attitude, "Safety ? You must be joking !" attitude (when it comes to their mass market cars), shamelessly copying others, "This is more than enough for Indian customer" mindset (think of 1st Gen Dzire), only 2 good looking hatches in their long history, etc are a few reasons.

Likewise, some people WILL be TATA / Hyundai / Honda / Skoda / VW / Mahindra haters for their own reasons. Super perfect. Interestingly, I've NOT come across that many haters of Chevy / Ford / Fiat / Nissan / Renault etc brands !

Below is more on Fluidic Verna than on Hyundai. In spite of its class leading features (in 2012), Verna was not in my list to begin with. It was Rapid that ruled my heart. Its tough clutch and horn pads tilted my decision away from Rapid.

For many, THESE would NOT be issues, but the A$$ could be an issue. Ciaz and City Diesels have lesser power for the segment, the way Linea 1.3 Multijet is. Some say the power is not adequate, but the owners say it IS adequate. Likewise, the owners of Verna say the handling is adequate and some say it is NOT. I feel the A$$, Power, Speed, Acceleration etc are MEASURABLE parameters. The handling is NOT an easily measurable parameter; it is felt by the passengers more. The Fluidic Verna gives ME an amalgamation of driving pleasure, A$$ and comfort at whatever speed I choose to drive at. May be I and my family might change opinion after we get a chance to be in a Beemer.

It's now > 36,000 km in Verna. Recently, over 33 hours, I drove from BLR to Tuticorin (in TN) and back, reaching home 5 minutes past midnight. The next morning at 8AM, I was at my office desk, my Wife went to her office and daughter was at her school, all returning home in the evening. During that trip, I slept for about 5 hours, shopped for 2 hours, drove 18 hours and attended a family function for rest of the time. Last week, same destination was covered in little over 1.5 days by a friend, but by Train. After lunch he took half day leave as he was tired. I think THIS says a lot about the capabilities and comfort a Fluidic Verna gives.

I'd had my own share of "heart-in-mouth" moments on our roads, at varying terrains, speeds, time and traffic. The precise Steering response my hands extract from Verna, the oozing power on tap and God's grace saved us (and the parties creating tight situations) on every one of those occasions.

PS: When one realises that even the hardest braking will NOT avoid collision, "Power on Tap" can be really handy. This can happen at even 50 kph speeds. Steering Response, Handling, Body Roll, Rear not stepping out etc etc are also needed before God Almighty decides to come and rescue [lol]

@ furious_driver : My post also was deleted (in that same thread that you have mentioned) due to reference on over-speeding. I had quit defending while YOU started this thread. You da Man.

Duh! I didn't know this before. Thanks for putting this valuable info....[sleep]
Your post definitely suggest that you don't know that. Thats why I had to tell you.

only their fuel economy is a concern with their Engines.
My i10 gave me a milege of only 11-13 Kmpl. While that was not a concern if I was using the car only in the city, I was doing a lot of driving and that's another reason why I sold the car. The main reason being handling.

Furious Driver, Why do I feel that you do not want normal drivers to experience the goodness in cars other than Hyundai?
Exactly my thoughts.

See, when the so called enthusiasts tell that the steering and handlinng of Hyundai are not par with some other cars in competition - they are not lying, are they??
+1

When someone say about Hyundai's steering and handling, they are alerting a normal buyer, who MIGHT not be aware of that. When they suggest a different car, they are not forcing it on them, they are SUGGESTING. By suggestion, the option is still with the buyer - He can test drive both the cars and choose what is appropriate to him. Who knows, someone who considers himself a non-enthusiast might just become one when he tries out a Fiat or a Ford.
Again something I was also trying to say.

Let us all give our views and let the buyer go with what they feels is best suited for them.
Exactly.

Sonata & Elantra is not a failure.
How many do you see on the roads?

Lack of diesel engine in last decade pushed it off shelve, that's it.
This statement can be summarised in on word; FAILURE

Yes, Sonata & Elantra were not having Diesel engines, but wasn't this the same case with Honda for thier Civic & Accord & Toyota for thier Corolla which were all big sellers when they were there here. The Petrol only CRV was a hit compared to the Diesel Only Tuscon & Terracan which were duds.

@vijay_968

Yes. Every brand does have some haters! Gotta agree with that. BTW Why no haters for brands you mentioned?
You can't force people to hate or not hate any brand. I think you have been told this several times.

I have to agree with Peter.

Hyundais are great cars. Comfort, looks, FE, everthing very very good but their sore point is that their steerings are indeed lifeless at highway speeds. Again I have driven i10, i20, Verna (Fluidic), Sonata and Santa Fe extensively over cities and highways.

If it was city driving the primary reason, I would choose a hyundai in a heart beat. But for highway driving, I would not.

Case in Example:
There is this road called the DND here in NCR. It is a road with some curves in middle but makes do for a good drive. I have driven all kinds of cars here and let me tell you that Verna (rest hyundai cars fared somewhat okay) was a little scary. I was doing 120+ and slight turn in at that speed also was not confidence inspiring. But a Vento or a Polo fared much better. Am I wrong for facing such an experience and voicing it?

Some people do not understand the meaning of a car that handles well. If a car handles well it does not mean it is only for driving at insane speeds. It is easy to drive at high speeds and maintain control of the car. A good handling car can easily be controlled even at moderate speeds. If your car handles well means you are in control at all times. You are in control means less chances of accidents.
Another misconception is "Soft Suspension=Comfortable Ride" and "Hard Suspension=Uncomfortable Ride". Of course a very hard suspension is uncomfortable on bad roads but a very soft suspension is worse. On bad roads the car keeps bouncing and on good roads it rolling as you turn. This actually makes you tired faster.

The 'high speed driving' term is a relative term here. One should understand it. High-speed handling does not always mean 'speed above 100.

On Pune to Mumbai E way, upper speed limit by law is 80 kmph. Once you enter Lonawala, Ghat section begins with tortuous flyovers with steep gradient and the side ramps make the road narrower than the rest of the E way. Sign board says speed limit 30 kmph. Now, one who is travelling with 80 kmph finds it really difficult to slow down to 30 kmph as one needs to apply brakes urgently and by the time he sees the signboard, his is already approaching the turn coupled with steep gradient, now he needs to negotiate the turn. Urgent brake application at this moment also carries a risk of getting rear ended by the over speed vehicle approaching from behind and here is the moment where precision of the steering wheel becomes important, slightest oversteer or understeer leads the car to collide or scrape with the ramp wall or abrupt lane changing which is really dangerous. . And verna, i20 is bit inferior to their competition in such situations.
