Try to understand, Verna diesel is faster car than Honda city so steering feedback becomes more important in case of Verna.
And city also gets criticism for skinny tyres, cost cutting noisy engine etc especially when it comes to price of the car.
In post # 86, I mentioned about my two experiences as to how safely and comfortably Verna steered away from tricky situations at HIGH speeds. Basically the two examples give an insight as to how good a handler Verna is. But, your post at #87, and this one quoted make it clear that you've not read my examples or I wrote them in a difficult to understand way.

Because here again you are mentioning about steering feedback, as if a driver can close his eyes and drove only by steering feedback. I drive with open eyes which chart a path and hand inputs that to the steering and Verna simply obeys by taking that path without breaking sweat. For me this is "3 idiots" definition of handling. Verna is more than good enough for any tricky situations on Indian roads, for a normal man or an enthusiast (who doesn't want to crash the car everytime).

It is not a Fiesta or Linea. But it is a wonderful and sensible handler with a fantastic engine. So here I go again. If one wants a Sedan around 11 Lacs, and if it is a diesel, Verna will NEVER disappoint them.

Mate i don't think 128bhp will make the case of a torque steer. I agree even in the 5th gear you can feel the power when the car is accelerating but it's not that much.

And see you again proved my point. City issues are just limited to tyres and nvh levels and never anything about steering feedback is mentioned.

Now it is all about Skinny tyres and cost cutting in Honda and no issue with steering! Come on guys, grow up! If Verna has light steering and you go on warn user about it, do it for City. By the way @Tornado defends Honda, it looks like either he didn't drive one or not willing to accept it.

Guys, I have driven Honda City diesel in both City and Highway and found the steering to be better than the Hyundai's I have driven (I have not driven a Verna). It was not as good as our Dzire, but it was not as bad as the Santro / i20. The steering was direct and precise but I would prefer a bit more tightness (or weight) in highway speeds. Coming to handling, it was VERY good thanks to its stiffer suspension. I had to take a sharp 90 degree turn at 75-80 kmph and it did without any drama. No complains about City's handling. Thicker tires would have been welcome though.

What City cannot match Hyundai is the interior quality, fit and finish and the plush ride. City was a bit unsettled over rough patches especially in lower speeds.

City's steering is not as light as verna at higher speeds.[:)]
Though handling in verna is much more better due to its higher profile tyres.
your statemnets are contradictory. a general buyer won't know the handling is bad because of the tyres.

In the end honda city has bad handling according to you so again why bad handling isn't mentioned by any entusiast when the recommend the city to any prospect buyer.

Sir, YOU are contradicting here. If Vishnu feels the handling is bad, he should caution the prospective buyers - why do you expect ANY ENTHUSIAST to do so?? If the Enthusiast feels so, he will also pass on the views.

I NEVER felt City was a bad handler. For me it was VERY GOOD and would would have been better if it had thicker tires. If I am to recommend City to any one, I will definitely tell about the tires, build quality, low speed ride quality and not so tight steering in highway speeds. I will also tell the positives I felt.

Similarly, if I am to recommend i20 to anyone, I will tell him about the light steering, high speed handling. I will also tell about how well equipped it is and how well built it is.

And Yes, every individual will have a brand preference and that might reflect in his recommendations. Please respect that.

So you mean it's not a purpose of an entusiast to report something like this ? If so called enthusiast can say lifeless steering of the verna they can't say it for the city just becasue it has other problems ?

In the main honda city thread here on TAI, search the keywords "llifeless. Nobody used this term nor i have seen any other threads where this was reported. The thread has like 1800 replies since october 2013 and not one person / enthusiats reported this issue ?

About the preferences. So if i like the verna and i have preference for hyundai i will recommmend the hyundai verna and not talk about it's disadvantages ?
You sir are welcome to see my ownership threads. I'm here to help and whatever problems i face i report it and include the costs as well so that other could benefit And even compare the prices to other brands.

i am not saying one should not recommend city but i am saying if someone suggests the car t
To anyone he should report each and every positive and negatives. Just because one has brand preference doesn't mean he won't talk about the disadvantages.

Even if somebody has brand preference he may not go with it just because it won't serve his purpose.

VERNA's fast engine +soft suspension +lighter steering, combo of all when compared to City 's comparatively marginally slow engine +stiff suspension +light steering combo, during my TD. City turned out to be better handler than verna.
That's all..
Now, a perspective buyer should take in account my above experience while TD ing these car and take final decision.

I didn't want to clutter by multi quoting and directly posting.

The reason why a Honda is recommended more is because of the driving package it gives. Verna with its light steering and soft suspension has very poor dynamics. If Honda is as you say bad then Verna is even worse. Honda's light steering but with a better suspension set up and if also better tyres are added then it will be far more confidence inspiring than a Verna on the same road at the same speed. The fatter tyres will make a lot of difference to the handling of the City which is not the case of the Verna.

To be frank everyone has light steering now because mostly everyone has moved to electric steering wheel to save costs and future maintenance. Companies like Ford and Fiat who still use hydraulics are sworn for their benchmark handling and ride. Also if you read the posts carefully Hyundais are reproached for their ride and handling which does not just mean a light steering.
Like I mentioned in the earlier post , I would want my 11+L car to be good in and out of the city. Verna is good in the city (FE not considered here) with its light steering and soft suspension to swallow the port holes, however out of the city its the last choice for most.

Forget all this gibberish. When all the experts in the Indian auto world, all reviewers on all channels, forums , magazines and lastly, the manufacturer themselves say there is an issue with the Verna, will having a separate thread with us mango people with limited knowledge really be able to change facts.

Dude, are you reading my posts completely before commenting or simply jumping the gun??

If Vishnu feels the handling is bad, he should caution the prospective buyers - why do you expect ANY ENTHUSIAST to do so?? If the Enthusiast feels so, he will also pass on the views.
This is what I said. It was Vishnu's opinion that City's handling is bad, a different individual, say myself, need not agree with that. If an enthusiast feels the handling is bad, he will report that. If it not reported, that means it is acceptable for most. Got it??

In the main honda city thread here on TAI, search the keywords "llifeless. Nobody used this term nor i have seen any other threads where this was reported. The thread has like 1800 replies since october 2013 and not one person / enthusiats reported this issue ?
Probably the same reason what I said above. City's steering, IMO, was not as bad as a Santro's i20's (I do not know Verna's - havent driven one). Even at highway speeds, I felt it to be very precise but would have been really good if it was tighter and gave more feedback. In that case, even the steering of Polo, Vento and Rapid are very light but why were they not reported? They were simply precise and direct. They did not give many nervous moments to the driver. Whereas the Hyundai's Ive driven made me nervous in speeds around 80-100 kmph (did not dare to go above that) - probably a because of a combination of handling and steering.

About the preferences. So if i like the verna and i have preference for hyundai i will recommmend the hyundai verna and not talk about it's disadvantages ?

Dude, you are not even getting my point. By brand preference, I mean this - If I am someone who likes Honda more than Hyundai. On evaluation of a particular requirement, if the Hyundai Verna more or less matches the Honda City, I will tend to tilt towards Honda. It is not about hiding the deficiencies of one and highlighting the flaws in other. Please understand, brand preference is not same as fanboyism.

I understand what you guys are trying to explain. The setup in the honda city is better than the verna.
Altocumlous i did read the expert views that i posted in the previous pages.

City's suspension stiff for city use and on highway it's not that better than the verna.

Both the cars are nowhere near for the driving pleasure.

Like you said above if city is bad verna is worse, it doesn't mean the issues won't be reported.

From the very start i am saying the suspensions needs to be improved which they did.

A grandi10 ride quality is much better than my 2012 verna but it's nowhere near the 2014 model.

To all those who haven't taken the TD please do.

So just because everyone point out Verna, it is bad and since no one says anything about Honda it is very good? Hiding something is bad too! And Hyundai haters only focus on steering whereas forget about competitors flaws for their own good?

I will explain what i implied-
City- Ivtec- tuned for balanced fuel economy and performance,Idtec-Fuel economy
Handling aspects-
Steering- Suited mainly to City use though does good in highways, not as great as rival-Fiesta and even i say swift dzire.
Suspension- Mature,Stiffer side
Wheel- 15 inch alloys, skinny tyre profile.
Brakes- Above average, tyre compromises its braking efficiency
Verna- Ride tuned for performance- Both Petrol( 1.6VTVT & 1.6CRDi)
Handling-
Steering- Perfect for city, highways -Based on 2014 facelift (DRL+Projector setup version)-Poor
Tyre profile- Best in class
Alloys- Diamond cut alloys
Brakes- Based on 2014- Rear disc proves its use, best ABS calliberation
Suspension- OK- Though bumps creep in,NVH better than City idtec, though suspension could have been made to indian road taste.

No one focuses on just steering . Everyone focuses on ride and handling where steering is a sub set. And its surprising you saying people never recommend Hyundai. Its all over brother. People are recommending Hyundai. Similarly there are millions of threads all over where people are bashing up other brands. Which brand out there makes the perfect car ?

Coming to Honda handling. How do you or allhyundaicars know Honda has poor handling ? Have you really tested a Honda City extensively (extended period of time )at high speeds on the highway to understand that ? Or is it from the numerous forums and official reviews which talk about the same. Every where it says Honda steering and handling is bad, just that it is not as bad as the Verna. Everyone praises a Hyundai for everything else other than that and also mentions that it has worked on the suspension for both i20 & Verna. However since you both claim that concern about Hyundai is false as well, which means Hyundai cars, specially the Verna is perfect. Now that would be a joke wouldn't it ?[;)]

Oops, I forgot about the FE of Hyundai's, but we can let that part go.
