did you check the mileage using full tank method ? don't believe the info related to mileage on MID.
Full tank method usually give 1 to 1.5 kmpl of error. So you can assume around 18 kmpl in this case. Moreover it hard to calculate FE for highway exclusively using full tank method, the car has to unavoidably go through city.
Constant speed ot 90kmph on a long stretch can easily give 18kmpl with most of the petrol cars.

@Sanke1: Good FE. How did you find the response of car with that much of load?

i don't know for sure. well i think then maybe hyundai has to work on their MID. sometimes difference is more than 4kmpl.

don't know about central and south india's highway but in north one cannot drive at constant 90 and has to go through some city or the other , a small village etc. speed just die.

Car handled flawlessly. Beyond my expectations. Contrary to what people said that the engine feels strained, I felt no such thing.

But yes, the engine does sound like diesel at those speeds.

The secret of that FE is while climbing down on Khandala Ghat, I left it on 5th Gear and coasted at 70 kmph without applying acceleration.

Did I do something wrong?

That was absolutely fine, you did nothing wrong.

I was specifically referring to the throttle response you could feel with five people in car. Did you feel more sluggishness in the car with that load?

Those FE figures for a Petrol car are really good. I have driven on the Mumbai- Pune expressway many times myself and its a sheer bliss specially in monsoons with the lush green scenery all around.
And those tail lamps surely must be getting a lot of attention from the onlookers. Look absolutely stunning.

Yes definitely sluggish. The car was not accelerating like while driving solo.
But I forgot to mention, along with 5 people, I had 60kg stuff in the boot too.[embarass]

your tail light looks hot. where did you get those?
Thanks buddy. Can you check Page 4 and 5.

does polo shows current fuel consumption ? my verna does.

it shows how much fuel the car is consuming that particular second or i think maybe every 6 seconds.

when i do what you did ,coast at 70kmph in 5th gear, the MID shows 99.9 KMPL [:D] , that's the best one can do. as soon as you stop accelerating fuel consumption decreases. i inferred this from current fuel consumption meter. please correct me if i'm wrong.

Polo shows 85 kmpl while coasting on 4th and 5th gears. On 3rd it shows 45. I didn't try coasting on 2nd and 1st.

I asked this because I actually never felt much of sluggishness with full load in car. Of course, some bit of it is expected but the first time when I was driving with full load, five people on board, I was surprised that the character didn't change much.

Yes polo also shows current FE. I don't know the minimum limit of time (1 second or more), but it changes as you change your driving style. Throttle more and it goes down in seconds, leave the accelerator and FE goes up like crazy, but yes you can observe the display and know how to drive better for more FE.

I can't lie. The car was slightly sluggish. But my car was overloaded. Inspite of all that, I still managed to reach 165 kmph.

Of course polo tsi is worth the wait. Only thing is that it would be a bit expensive than the current polo petrol highline model. Both the wait and the high price would be worth that tsi engine.
