I didn't get it fixed at the A.S.S. My car came with it. That's the problem with VW. They keep updating the Polo like there is no tomorrow. I'm guessing your car has an aux input for the stereo (that's what I was told by the people there when I asked them why mine doesn't have it). Also, the January 2013 models have a different stereo system with aux, usb and sd card reader (all of which my car lacks). My car is a November 2012 model.

Yes exactly, they keep changing things so much, incidentally I took delivery of my car around 28th September 2012, and yes you are right I do have an Aux input for the stereo. This is a bit of a comfort for me, cause I dont use CD/DVD, so I am using my ipod with it. But then thinking back that I got the Aux and then you didnt and again the January 2013 models does is really strange.

Very true. I wonder how much VW saved by skimping on an aux in. [frustration] I mean. Seriously. But a lot of stuff was added in the October/November model such as the full (Indian) MID, rear wipers, etc etc. Does your car have electrically adjustable ORVMs too? The Highline back then didn't have ACC but two months later, they did. I would've cried if I had bought the HL then. Lol.

No I have the manual ones, I never felt the lack of anything else except perhaps the rear wiper, driving during rains is a nightmare, I can see through nowhere except front with all the rain splashing down and flowing over the windows. Its only this which made me wish for once I had gone for the highline instead. I even enquired about getting them manually fitted, but I was told there's no provision to accommodate it.

One of the stuff they changed later and which I personally detested is the fact that they put fabric on the arm rest on the door, not sure when they started but from what I have seen in a few Polo's it tends to get a lot dirty, not very nice.

I'm sure you can get the rear wash and wipe fitted. The buggers at the A.S.S probably won't do it for you because they may not be competent enough or might be too lazy/busy. You can ask a reputed neighbourhood garage if it is possible. But it might be an expensive job considering how much VW parts cost. Another useful thing for me is the rear defogger. My car fogs up like anything especially when it rains (the rear windscreen). The defogger plus the rear wiper helps make night highway drives a breeze during the rains.
My car thankfully does not have the cloth insert in the armrest on the doorpad. I think the highline comes with that. Not sure. I remember seing the GT TDI and GT TSI with the cloth insert.

Well actually this is my first car, I am like very nervous about everything anyone wants to do to it, a month back at the service center when i took my car for first service the SA scratched my dashboard with his bare nails just to show that my plastic is getting rough and I should get the internal treatment done, i could not react in time and now there's scratch marks, [cry] i didnt tell him anything because whats done is done, it cannot be undone, but i didnt let him do that treatment, am thinking about getting it done from shop like 3M, hopefully that should take care of it. You're right about the rear defogger, sometimes even my front glass turns floggy, I have to blow a good deal of warm air to clear it up. No I havent put up my ownership thread yet, I'll try to take some time out and take some good shots of my car and then I'll post one [:)]

Seriously?!?!?! They scratched your dashboard for that? If it were me, I would have made a ruckus and gone straight to the manager. Thank God the people here have enough sense to not do that (atleast, I think they do). I say go with 3M or some other good detailing place outside. I have a contact who works at the VW service centre here and he personally asked me not to get the 3M thingy done from VW. He said they don't always use 3M. They sometimes use Wurth too. You won't know what is being used on your car.
And again, I personally think it's not a very good idea to mess with the electricals of your car. Especially since it is a German (they are not known for their reliability after all). I guess you have to give something up for the good build quality and premium feel.

PS. I used to use Wurth dashboard cleaner on my cars. Keeps the dashboard fresh and shining and clean. Now I use something called Vista but it does leave a sticky residue. Wurth didn't do that. I might go back to Wurth or checkout Meguiars once this Vista thing gets over.

Do you Polish your car yourself as well? I mean the exteriors? What do you use? I am thinking of buying and doing it myself.

By the way something new happened recently, i remember emailing to Volkswagen CC about a year back when I had a query post purchase and I didnt get any response. Presently things seem to be improving. I emailed Volkswagen CC about a week back asking them whether newly delivered vehicles are filled with Air or CNG, and today I suddenly got a call from the Customer Relationship Manager in Kolkata, the lady was literally asking me with folded hands not to send any emails to CC and to call her if I had any queries and also that she is available 24/7 [shock] I told her there must be a mistake as it was just a general enquiry and not a complaint but she insisted that I call her because there was a serious escalation cause of my one email [sleep]. Anyway the thing is, I didnt knew my car came with Air, and I filled it with CNG whenever needed, now during last service I saw that the machine which they are using to correct tyre pressures is actually filling Air. Now my Tyre has Air + CNG, what should I do now? [confused]

Yes. I used to polish my car myself but I've stopped now because of the lack of time and my Meguiars ran out [:D] I'll probably take it to Cochin sometime for a 3M treatment or if that isn't possible, I'll get it done at VW itself. Being a medico doesn't leave me with too much time to spare. IF you are planning on detailing your car yourself, be ready to spend a good amount of time and elbow grease as it is quite time consuming and tedious. How often do you wash your car? I wash my car only once a week as it is parked in my college parking lot all through the weekdays and I go home only on weekends. That is when I wash my car. Sundays mornings are spent washing and waxing my car inside and out.
CNG?!?!?! You mean Nitrogen right? CNG is compressed natural gas as far as I know and no one uses it to fill tyres [glasses] If you are asking whether there is any problem if your tyres have a mix of nitrogen and air, don't worry. No harm will be done. Air does, after all, contain around 78% nitrogen and only 21% oxygen. So it shouldn't be a problem at all.

Well, probably once a week during weekends, same as you. I usually take extended nap during weekends, guess i could put that to good use and bring out some shine on my car [:D]

Thank you for the confirmation about the tyre, it does seem to be in well inflated condition ever since i took it to service centre, been 3 weeks and no drop in air pressure, [clap] otherwise usually I have to visit a petrol pump once every two weeks to get the pressure corrected.

The only difference nitrogen makes as far as I can see is that the frequency of topping up the air in the tyre is reduced. Nitrogen stays in the tyre for longer and reduces the need to fill up regularly.

Jopasu Mini duster

I bought a Jopasu Mini duster from eBay. I read somewhere that it was good to remove dust from the dashboard.

Now my car dashboard has never gathered dust per-se but lint. Loads of lint from our coats and clothes. Most may say I have OCD but I cannot stand dirty interiors. I don't mind the exteriors being dirty (now you can't ask the wind to stop blowing and birds to wear underwear, can you? [glasses]) but keeping the insides of any car clean is the responsibility of the owner and the passengers (and some of my passengers have no idea on how to get inside the car without dirtying the door pads or the scuff pads). So, in order to keep it clean, I vacuum and polish the insides every weekend but by the next weekend, there is always some amount of dust and loads of lint. So I thought. Why not buy a Jopasu mini duster to clean the dust and lint on the dashboard and door sills? And that is what I did. Went on eBay and bought one for Rs. 239. I ordered it on Saturday night and got it on Tuesday morning. The delivery was prompt and fast. It was also well packed. I was waiting for the weekend to try it out. In the meantime, the dashboard managed to gather some lint and I wanted to see how the duster worked it's magic.
Come Sunday and after the usual routine of cleaning my car, my mom says we have to go visit my granddad (I hate taking the car out after it has been washed). So, mumbling under my breath, I take her and my sis and go visit my granddad. Now, since there is no tarred road leading to my house and no rains for the past couple of days, the road was dry, making it easy to dislodge the dust and making it look like a dust storm when a car goes by. After we reach home, my car looked like it had been through a dust storm. So parked my car in the garage and got the Jopasu out. I thought of using it only for the interiors and not the exteriors. So took it out of it's pouch and started wiping the dashboard straight away. And horror of horrors. The lint that came out of the Jopasu was unbelievable. The entire interior was covered in lint and fine thread. [frustration] I cursed the guy who sold me the duster (thinking it was some fake stuff even though I bought it from the main dealer). The dashboard that earlier had some lint was now covered in lint. I got out of my car and thought I'd wipe off the dust that was on the outside since I couldn't use it for the interior. I wiped a part of the door and that area was absolutely dust free!!! So I wiped down the entire car in two minutes and there was no sign of dust on the car. I was impressed. Rs. 239 had not gone down the drain.
Now I read what was written on the package. "The dirtier it is, the better it works". I think what it meant is that the more dirt there is to be cleaned, the better it works. I looked at the duster and it had turned brown (it was cream coloured when new). I thought I'd try it on the dashboard now and to my amazement, it removed all the lint that was there. So finally, the duster worked and I was a happy man again.

Am I happy with the product? Yes. Absolutely.
Would I recommend you to buy it? Yes. Absolutely.

The only problem is that it says I should shake the duster vigorously to remove the dust that it has taken up but vigorous shaking only got me stares from the people walking on the road and removal of some of the dust. The duster is still a brown colour now. Any idea on how to clean it? Cleaning it with water will spoil the duster. That is what I read from reviews posted by others. Any help, anybody?

Vipin

Vacuum cleaner perhaps?

Btw, congrats on your purchase, would've loved some pics though :)
He he. Yes. I usually use the vacuum cleaner to suck the lint and dust off the dash but I thought why not make my job easy. So went and bought the Jopasu. Must say after the initial hiccup, the Jopasu worked well. My car is lint and dust free again, both inside and out.
Pics of the Jopasu? I'll put some up this weekend \m/
