Re: Noodle mats find a home in Princess

Probably much better option than 3D mats. Cleaning 3D mats is a pain and certains stains are un removable. Also costs quite a lot compared to noodle mats. I think the only advantage is that it looks much better compared to noodle mats. If i had know about noodle mats before purchasing 3D mats i would have definitely gone for noodle mats only.

Sankar
For my Getz, I'll be going with the thinner variant of the noodle mats. It'll help keep the costs down plus the Getz is being hardly used now (almost 23k kms on the odo of the Polo which I bought last November compared to 40k on the odo of the Getz which I bought 5 years back).

Your Getz is petrol right? When you have a economical diesel in your garage will you roam around in a petrol hatch with petrol prices at 75Rs/Ltr[:D]

Poor Getz doesn't have a chance to compete with your Polo Vipin[lol]

Lol. That is true. With prices of petrol being what they are, I'm wondering how I can get my dad to buy a diesel car. He already has half a mind to get one but he prefers Japs. And he said we'll keep the Getz as a second car and I think thats a nice idea because I'll get peanuts if I sell the Getz (if I can find any takers in the first place, that is).
BTW, I do use the Getz for city runs.

@VipinLJ
What is better in Polo that you prefer it over Getz?
What is better in the Polo?

1. The Polo is a diesel whereas my Getz is a petrol. Thus it is cheaper to run. [glasses]
2. It looks better.
3. It has more OEM features than my barebones Getz.
4. Highway stability.

What is better in the Getz?

1. The comparatively refined and somewhat peppy petrol engine. The VW TDI takes a while to respond to throttle inputs when you start off compared to the Getz.
2. Definitely more spacious.
3. Better city car (soft suspension compared to the Polo).
4. Much better brakes.

Can't think of anymore points though I will add to this later if I remember [:)] BTW, you have a lovely Polo there \m/

Really Vivek am i ignoring reality? You can call me idiot for buying a Dzire but how can you call 18k buyers of Dzire and 17k buyers of Swift idiots? Just because you hate Maruti doesn't mean everyone should hate a Maruti.

As i said before

Positives of Polo

Awesome built quality
Interior quality much higher to competition
Good all round package which includes - Well weighted steering, Good ride and handling

Negatives of Polo

Poor performance
Engine not refined (basically due to 3 cylinder engine)
Reputation of being expensive to maintain. Have also heard spares are expensive (Eg my friend inquired about highline's alloys for his CL Vento. Price quoted was 20k/alloy, another example VW body kits for Polo quoted at 80k)

Positives of Swift/Dzire

Good performance. Sporty to drive (Maybe due to very low kerb weight)
Good ride and handling
Excellent Service Network. Cares for customer feedback.
Reliable to own and cheap to run. Spares are dead cheap.
Good resale value
Incase of Old Dzire 460L boot space[:)]

Negatives

Poor built quality. Rattling all around.
Poor quality brakes and tires
No exclusivity. Everywhere you go you can see Swift/Dzire.

Every car has positives cum negatives. You need to accept that. No pointing hating Maruti simply.

Regards,
Sankar

Expensive to maintain ? is that really True ? I agree what we spend on polo is expensive, but what about cars also ? I spend around 21k for 2 services for polo tdi and it completed 31k and no further spending till 46k(~) except brake pad change (2k). Same time swift would have completed around 4 or 5 services and from my swift friends I got to know its almost the same amount they spend.

This "Expensive to maintain" tag (myth[;)])impact heavily vw owners when they are going to change the car, resale value goes down and the owner loose more amount.

He he. Expensive to maintain as in people consider paying Rs. 10-12k all at once for a service compared to 3-5k per service for other cars. But now, the new Swift is pretty expensive to maintain as well considering Maruti now recommends synthetic engine oil for the new Swift.
Spare parts of the Polo are more expensive than the Swift though.

Damn. I just realised that my car's first birthday was a couple of days back!!!!! November 15th. And I forgot all about it. I also totally forgot about renewing the insurance. Can somebody please tell me the formalities for renewing insurance a couple of days after the insurance has expired?
The stupid people at VW didn't call me reminding me about the insurance. The Hyundai people are so much better. I still get calls regarding the service and insurance renewal on my Getz even after 5 years. That too, not from one dealer but two different dealers in Kollam and in Trivandrum.

Congrats on completing one year with your Polo Vipin. I guess it just depends from dealer to dealer. In my case, I keep getting reminders from VW and Ford, but Hyundai one's are the lazy bums here and never care to update on insurance renewal or for service reminders. My Hyundai Verna kept running with an expired insurance for almost 2 months and we came to know when my sis was stopped by a Police guy to check the car's papers and he found the insurance to be expired.[frustration]

For the insurance renewal, you can either get it renewed with the same insurance firm and get the Non-claim bonus. 2 days of expiry does not really matter, but get it renewed as soon as possible. You can even do a comparison and buy it online through various insurance sites. You will get a cover note instantaneously for the policy which you can take a print-out of and the main policy comes by post within 7-10days.

Expensive to maintain tag is not a myth buddy. Vipin paid 14k for his yearly service while someone i know paid 23k for his first service for his Vento.

And yes maintaining a Swift is a costly affair now a days[frustration]

Luckily for me, I called the insurance agent at the VW dealership today. She quoted me Rs. 18177 for bumper to bumper insurance compared to Rs. 21527 quoted by someone from policybazaar.com. She also managed to get me covered from 14th November onwards (luckily 14th was a holiday so they could do it as a continuation and not a break in the insured period). The process was fast and smooth and all they did was take four or five pictures of the car.
The Hyundai dealers here are better at follow up compared to the VW dealers. Might not be the same everywhere.

I paid 12k for the second service Sankar [glasses] What is the service interval of the Swift btw? For the Polo, it is 15,000kms or 1 year, whichever is earlier.
The new Swift uses synthetic engine oil which is why the service is expensive now.

Vipin

PS. Birthday report will be up in a couple of days [:D]

Get a quote from outside Vipin. VW are overcharging you like hell. From my experience BajajAllianz quotes the best figures.

My friend's Cruze was insured for second year with Bajaj Allianz for 17,100Rs for cover of 12Lakhs. It has full bumper to bumper cover, 24X7 support and all other features. PSU companies like Oriental quoted a figure of 21k. Remember its for a value of 12L for his cruze. In your case premium can come down to 6-8k.

PS:- Even if insurance date is expired, you won't land into any trouble unless checked by cops. Renewal is same in all companies (Checking car first hand or to send pics of car to company my email)

"Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday dear Princess
Happy birthday toooo youuuuuuu
" [clap]

So Princess turned one year old on the 14th of November, 2013. And what did I do about it? Like a very busy father does, I forgot all about her birthday. But she didn't have any complains. No sad face. No grumpiness to give me a hint. She went about her job with utmost faith and humility. Like she does, as usual.
I was jolted to reality on the night of the 18th, while I was reading a review thread and saw an ad on the top most page regarding insurance policy renewal.
"Holy Mother of God. My car's insurance must have expired by now" was the thought that crossed my mind.
"Wait a minute. Didn't I get my car on the 25th of November, or was it the 15th?" I quickly logged onto TAI, dug out my ownership thread (which was a couple of pages behind due to all the other active threads and checked the first page. There. 15th of November was the delivery date.
I quickly went online on policy bazaar and checked out a couple of quotes from there. Bumper to bumper, zero depreciation insurance was quoted from Rs. 18k to Rs. 21k.
I got a call the very next day (yesterday) from policy bazaar and the rep there said that since my insurance had expired, the best offer he could give me was Rs. 21527 from Bajaj Allianz because I would lose my NCB as the insurance had already expired. I told him that I will get back to him and called up VW. The lady there said she could give me full bumper to bumper insurance along with zero dep for Rs. 18177 and that I would not lose the NCB and also that she can make it a continuous insurance with no break as the 14th was a holiday. I called up my regular agent in Kollam and he gave me a quote of Rs. 19000 from National Insurance.
So I went ahead with the VW insurance. Took my car to EVM where they clicked a few pictures of the car (I forgot to take my own photos of the car). The lady had already prepared the cover note and all I had to do was make the payment. Paid Rs. 18177 and my car was insured again.
While I was at it, I checked out the Polo GT TDI (No TD car) and the GT TSI (the old TD car is now for sale there as a second hand car (Das Welt Auto) for which they are expecting around Rs. 8.9-9l).

How has Princess been till now?

The good:

1. Fun to drive compared to the Getz but not as fun to drive as the Punto
2. Has enough power for Kerala (South Kerala, atleast). Most of my drives are in the city and on the highways which, like I've said before, are like cities in the rest of India. I do wish for more power at times.
3. Excellent build quality. No rattles as yet even though the roads to my house in Kollam are non-existent.
4. Decent fuel efficiency. I get an over all mileage of ~16 kmpl. It's been quite a long time since I checked the mileage using the tank full to tank full method.
5. Princess is quite a good looking car, I must say. She has made me grow quite fond of her after all this while.
6. The gearshifts are short and precise. There is a nice, slotted feel to it. Slight notchiness when downshifting to first at times.

The bad:

1. The turbo lag makes it necessary to downshift a lot while driving in the city. Horrible turbo lag, I must say.
2. The engine clatter. At idle, the cabin is silent but it does get noisy at high revs.
3. Lack of space at the rear.
4. Poor brakes (I will be getting it checked when I give it for her 2nd service.)
5. Windshield quality is below par when compared to the windshield quality of my Getz. The windshield is loaded with fine scratches from the wiper and also dirt which refuse to go even after cleaning it thoroughly with Collins.

Am I happy with her?

Hell yeah. I do, at times, wish that I had got the GT TDI or TSI instead but that feeling passes quickly.

The stats (as of today):

Mileage in the odo: 23620 kms
Fuel efficiency: ~16 kmpl
Maintenance cost: 1st service charge - Rs. 11,939

Pictures to follow soon. [:)]

It's decided. We are getting a Polo Diesel by tomorrow.
Which Polo is it? 1.2 TDI or GT? Which variant?

My Getz, which is 5 years old and has an IDV value of Rs. 1.9l, has a premium of ~ Rs. 5k. My Polo's first premium was Rs. 21,839 with an IDV value of ~ Rs. 6.9l.
What was the premium you paid for your Dzire? The premium your friend paid seems too good to be true, especially since it is a bumper to bumper insurance. The only way he could have got it for so cheap was probably because he transferred the NCB on his previous car to this car. Else, it is impossible. [glasses]

5k for 2L IDV? Our 4 year old i10 with 1.75L IDV comes at 2.2k.

Dealer get a huge commission from insurance. My Dzire with an IDV for 6L is 18k and i suspect dealer got atleast 5-6k as commission.

Aplogies regarding wrong info about my friend's Cruze. Just double checked with my friend. Yes he has ordinary insurance for his Cruze. And no he dosn't have NCB from any other vehicle for his cruze. For 12L IDV and insurance cover of 1L per passenger for 5 paasenger he paid 17100 as premium including tax. For bumper to bumper insurance the quote given to him was 23700. If you want i can send you the email quote provided to him[:)]

I am definitely going with BajajAllianz or through my dad's friend who works at New India Insurance as i am a bit tight on cash and can't afford the insurance from dealership.

Sankar
