Re: Some more stuff

I know. I like that one too but the others are against them (and unfortunately, I have to take their opinions into consideration too [frustration]). I saw a couple of white cars with golden colored alloys and while they look good, they don't stand out much. I also like the second one (the all black one next to the dull brown one in my previous post). I thought of getting that and then repainting it in gun metal color when I get bored of it.
Regards,
Vipin

PS. Know any HRS dealers in Kerala? These guys (Sai mag) said they'd ship the alloys to my house at Rs. 5300/alloy.
Nope i don't know any HRS dealers in kerala. Galaxy Car Accessories might have HRS alloys. I am not sure though. Pick which ever color you want bro. You can always repaint them for your needs in future. Repainting costs 1000/Alloy.

Noodle mats find a home in Princess

I bought one more accessory for Princes. I bought noodle mats to put on the beige carpet (what were the guys at VW smoking when they decided on giving beige carpets, that too, in India [frustration]). I got the idea after reading a thread on another forum and also from what one of our very own members, Naveen, did with his ecosport.

Bought 18.8 sq. ft. (1.69 sq. m) of grey coloured (I wanted black but my girl wanted grey and I gave in to her) noodle mats for the Polo from Glory and Co, Trivandrum. They have a selection of noodle mats (and other mats and carpets) ranging from Rs. 70/sq. m all the way to Rs. 125/sq. m. I bought the ones that cost Rs. 88/sq. m. I took out a front and rear mat that came with my car and got the guy there to cut out a rough template (with sufficient leverage) so that I can go home this weekend and cut it out to perfection. I paid Rs. 1600 in all, which came to around Rs. 85/sq. m. I have put the mats on the floor temporarily but the ones on the driver side are blocking the accelerator pedal (it is acting like a mechanical speed limiter [glasses]). So I nned to get them cut so that it doesn't block the pedal. The quality of the mats seems good. I hope they last for a really long time. I had thought of buying 3D mats but the cost and the reports that the driver's side mats wear out faster prevented me from buying them. Similar mats from 3M (3M Nomad mats) would cost a fortune too. I decided to take the cheap route out.

Will post pictures after I go home this weekend.

Vipin

He he. I'll ask Muneem if he stocks HRS alloys. I thought of the same thing too. Buy one that I like and then get it repainted. The only thing stopping me is whether there are good painters in TVM who can paint it well or whether I'd have to go all the way to Kochi to get it done. I saw this place called Colorwheels (I think that is what it's called) on the Kovalam route. It has a nice flashy office that is impossible to miss. Do you know of it?

You painted your car there? [surprise] What did you paint? I thought the black roof was a vinyl job. How is the quality of work? Charges? In Kollam, the painting charges are cut-throat. I just realised that after comparing it to the charges here in TVM.

Buddy my car is Dzire Tour which come with black bumpers front and rear, black door handles on all four doors and both mirrors are black. Total cost of painting them to white cost me 5k at Color Wheels. But now a days i deal with Saj Motors Kazhakuttam. Color wheels are always busy with big customers.

Due to driving in city my car has some scratch marks gifted to me by rash driving motorists and 3 wheelers[frustration]. I need to do some touchups soon.

Did you say 5k?!?!?! Only that much?!?! My getz had a couple of small scratches on the front and rear bumpers (no dents) and I got it done for 10k in Kollam [frustration]. They said it was so expensive because they do the entire bumper but they lied to me because I found out that they only paint the areas that are scratched. There was a scratch on the underside of my front bumper which they missed. I didn't bother to argue with them as time is always a constraint for me.[frustration] Also, they had the car for 3 days which was testing my patience.
I have a couple of dents on my Getz now. One in the front door and the other in the rear. Both with loss of paint. Will take it to a couple of places in TVM and get a quote.

My dad knows the owner of Ashraf very well. My dad has taught the guy long back during the 80s and also his account and loan advances were with my dad's bank now. I never knew all this. So i wnet ot him directly and he flatly said he didn't have time for small jobs like mine s he had to paint some 100 odd vehicles of Jet Airways in record time. That evening my dad and myself were taking an evening walk walk and went across Color wheels (It's located within 10 minutes walking distance from my home), I told my dad about them and he said we can once again ask him if he can do the painting. Once Ashraf saw my dad his attitude changed completely. He quoted 5k to do the job and asked me to bring my car the very next day. They even painted the spoiler free of cost. All this happend in a day.

But for small dents and scratches i don't take my car to color wheels as it's always busy there. I refer Saj Motors near technopark. When you come to Trivandrum let me know and we can go to Saj motors and i sure you he will quote the cheapest. I had a sall dent in front bumper and he said he will do the touch up. But i asked him to paint full bumper. Bumper was painted in front of me and was finished in 6 hours. Cost 2k.

Long overdue pictures of the noodle mats. Sorry about the dirt. The rain gods playing with us here made it difficult to maintain.

The driver's side mats are placed lower than the passenger side because the mats fowl with the accelerator and clutch pedal if I place them any higher.
A slight problem I'm facing with these mats is that they tend to move around a bit. I thought I'd get around that problem by buying strips of velcro and sticking it onto the underside of the mats. That should keep them in place?

Looks cool. In between when did you come to TVM? Which shop did you go to buy the carpet?

Hey

I got it a couple of weeks back. I made my driver get it for me actually. Gave him the passenger and one rear mat so they could cut out a rough shape. All I had to do was to fine tune the rough edges. [:D]
I bought it from Glory and Co (near SMV school, Overbridge). They have different colours and different thickness too. The thickest costing Rs. 125/sq ft and the thinnest Rs. 60/sq ft or so I think (I don't remember the exact prices). I got the one that comes in between but that is thick too. It fouls with the accelerator and break pedals. I might buy a little of the thinner one for the drivers side area later on just so that a lot more area can be covered with the mat.

I took the expensive option of buying 3D mats which costs me around 3k. IMHO looks better than noodle mats. But will 3D mats last for a long time? I really don't know. But will noodle mats last a long time? Yes they will for sure and also will keep you car's interiors clean too.

Excellent cost effective option of car floor mats i would say. I am going to do it for my i10 as well.

The reason I didn't go in for the 3D mats are because they are expensive and I couldn't find a set for my Polo here in TVM. If I had found one before I read about noodle mats, I would've definitely bought the 3D mats.
I'm also planning on getting noodle mats for my Getz. My dad has been telling me for more than a year now to get some for my Getz.

Probably much better option than 3D mats. Cleaning 3D mats is a pain and certains stains are un removable. Also costs quite a lot compared to noodle mats. I think the only advantage is that it looks much better compared to noodle mats. If i had know about noodle mats before purchasing 3D mats i would have definitely gone for noodle mats only.
