Re: First service update

Cost for the first service at 15,000 kms - Rs. 11,939
Since it was lower than what they quoted, I was pleased [clap]

I will post pictures of Princess tomorrow when I get access to a laptop because I can't seem to upload pictures via my phone here.

I think 3L of synthetic oil will cost around 4k. In VW dealership it might cost 6k. But still their is substantial 6k price. 12k is a lot for servicing a hatch. Can you post a detail bill please? Because my friend's Jetta's first service bill came around 12650/-. I am a bit stunned by the service bill cost of your Polo.

Hey Sankar

The problem is that my girl misplaced the bill. You know how girls are.....[frustration]

From what I remember,

1. Labour charges - Rs. 4000
2. Washing - Rs. 650 (including tax)
The rest of the amount was for the 15,000 kms service parts which include oil filter, air filter, fuel filter and pollen filter.

If I find the bill, I will put up a pic hopefully tonight or tomorrow morning.

Dude how on earth did you agree to bill of 4k for labour? You should have talked this out. IMHO 4k just for labour is atrocious.

[surprise] Well. The labour charges for everything they did was detailed and since I expected the costs to be in this range (and also since it was less than what they quoted initially), I think I let it go. It is very expensive for sure but VW has no free first services. I did the same calculation for a Skoda Fabia 1.2 TDI using the website Service Cost Calculator - and the service cost came to Rs. 64xx. [frustration] I did talk to a couple of other customers who had got their car serviced there and they said it was in the same range too. Plus, I was a little short of time to sit and fight with them but I will be sending a mail to VW this coming week asking them about it (My brother in Bangalore said his friend got a Polo serviced for Rs. 8000 odd).

Even my 1st service bill was 8.8k but that was excluding wheel alignment and balancing from them. 4K for labour alone sounds absolutely atrocious. You better check the bill again and forward the same to higher VW authorities. I've got a friend who got his Vento's first service done few days back and even his bill came to 9k. That seems to be average bill for the regular service and if you don't have any extra things to be done on the car.

Can you tell me how much the labour charges for you were? I got wheel alignment and balancing done from them. It came to around Rs. 500 or 600 if I remember right. My girl is still searching for the bill. I hope she finds it soon so that I can put up a picture of it and also send a copy to the higher ups.
I asked them to polish my car but they said it would cost an extra Rs. 3000 and so I thought I'd get it done from 3M in Cochin sometime in October.

For my cars's service, labour charges were 1400 bucks. Extra 400 bucks for washing and interior polishing. So 1800 including everything. Alignment and balancing cost 1200 bucks at VW workshop. Maybe that would have up your bill to that amount. Plus the extra labour cost would be for removing those tar spots I guess.[confused]

Dude i am speaking about a D segment Luxury sedan Jetta which was serviced in EVM Trivandrum at 12k (I am also speaking about first service only). I think you should complain regarding the service costs in this particular dealership. If first service costs 12k think about service intervals at 30k kms and 50k kms. They might charge you 20k or even 25k.

My ride's fully paid service charges are quoted at 6-7k an year including changing of fully synthetic oil, gear oil, brake fluid all other related replacing of parts.

Even C-segment sedans like Hyundai Verna service bills are around 10-11k an year. I would strongly suggest you to raise with VW as i am sure the culprit are EVM dealership in Trivandrum trying to cheat customers.

Tar spots were supposedly removed along with the cleaning. Let me see if my girl finds the bill so that I can go over it again and recheck.

I understand Sankar. One of my friends recently serviced her Jetta too a couple of months back. Let me find out from her how much they charged her. When I asked her sometime back, she said close to Rs. 30,000 but that was because the car had met with an accident too. So no idea. Let me see.
I'm waiting for my girl to find the bill so that I can recheck the costs and put up a photo here and write to EVM and VW.

Thanks VipinLJ for correcting me buddy[lol], But guys i have also seen that VW charges a bomb for the service cost, recently heard that for the first service of a vento someone paid 17 grand[surprise].

But you were charged for the services provided by them, at least you came out happy without complaining to anyone about the work done by them. Just enjoy the hassle free experience of VW ownership buddy.

The good part is your happy with the service in EVM Motors Trivandrum. In Bangalore VW service centers are well know for poor service experience.

Yes. Thankfully, I had a pleasant experience. There was no need to fight or argue to get anything done.

Yes Sankar. Thankfully, no problems with the service. I have taken a picture of the bill but can't upload it because I'm using a Macbook Pro which doesn't detect my S3. Need to get my windows laptop which is unfortunately in my room in the hostel.
