Hi Guys,

I have a plan to change in old wagonR with a new compact sedan in Petrol (my monthly run is about 500-600kms and they sit very well in my pocket), i have taken test drive for Xcent, Amaze and Zest. Amaze best exterior but least impressive interiors and features so out of the thought now.

So now it remains between Xcent and Zest and i am totally confused now which car to go for, Hyundai is tried and trusted brand with proven quality and good ASS and TATA best ever passenger Car (ABS.Airbags, HK sound system system, touch screen display)they have manufactured so far but long run quality and ASS is still to be a question.
If i compare both cars , Zest is around 75k cheaper then Xcent, Seek advice from the you guys is it worth spending this difference for Xcent or Zest will be the VFM.
My primary choices about the car are FE, Safety, comfort.
Guys , Please Advice.

It's been one week i got my petrol zest and have driven around 250 km. It's an awesome car with a big list of features. Xcent is not as wide as zest. Sound system in zest is top notch. No match at all. Just go with zest bro. Tata has put everything to bring in zest and they are treating the zest customers very well.

Thanks Hari and Kiran for your advice, making up my mind but my family is still resistant for Zest (My wife did not like the thud sound of the doors as she assume this kinda sound comes in old cars, somewhat true[;)])
BTW what is the FE you guys are getting :help: Probably i shall go this week to book my car.

Thud sound indicates its solid build quality. All European cars have that. Zest is entirely from a different stable by tata and indeed a good car.
No offence but Fiat, skoda, volkswagen etc all have this thud sound. It doesnt mean its old. For an 8.7 lak xt diesel top end is pretty much worth VFM car and no compromise been made by tata or cost cutting factor(except for bare bootlid which exposes all wires) it has best ICE in the segment.

Sorry for double post. But indeed got to say this.

Well thud sound comes even from European cars like volkswagen, Skoda, Fiat etc. It doesnt mean they are old. It indicates their solid build quality unlike the asian ones. Zest is indeed the best car in the segment no doubt about it. Tata has put all its effort in zest and zest looks like its from outside the usual tata stable. Its their first ever global design and the interiors look upmarket( unlike honda amaze and swift desire).
If you are looking for compact sedan then zest is the car which is best in the segment. No second thoughts about it.
(PS- for an 8.7 lakh car top end xt diesel with plenty of bells and whistles plus ICE by harman kardon and the comfy ride quality in back seat where actually 3 can be seated, and its worth when compared to many cars even a segment above it.
Cough honda amaze cough, toyota etios cough, Hyundai xcent double cough[clap])
Indeed a great VFM car by TML.

Thanks for your valuable and immediate suggestions guys.

This weekend i discussed with my family and due to all favors for Xcent , today evening i called up Xcent SA for TD but my constant thought for Zest as VFM and best in class features (As you guys also mentioned) forced me to put question once more in this forum and probably i shall visit Tata showroom once again before finalizing my decision.

Guys, Will let you know which CAR wins the my mind .

To break your confusion, test drive both Zest and Xcent on highways at speeds higher than 100 kmph and feel which car gives you better ride and handling and steering response. It will clear it all.

Hey guys Thanks a lot for your advice.
after reading all your feedback and my long time confusion led me to take a TD once again yesterday,in the afternoon i called up both Xcent and Zest guys to give me a TD and guess what they agreed for this even after there working hours i mean after 6:30pm.
I took a TD for Xcent and then Zest back to back in slow traffic and little bit on highway and as many things are common in both the Cars Zest stands out for its first in class features.

Most impressive thing about Xcent is liner power delivery at low RPM, so i was able to move in slow traffic even in third gear, seat comfort , music are ok.
But Zest is more impressive in its areas though i had to come to second gear in slow traffic. but seating position in similar to my WagonR, seat comfort,Music system , steering and other loaded features awesome.
i intentionally took both cars in very bad section of road near to my home and zest scores more.

So guys Zest is final , today i am going to book my ride hence along with TAI its happy b'day for my new ride as well. Feeling Excited..[clap]

@sagacious - you have taken a wise decision. Enjoy more happy and confident miles. Good luck.

BTW, how much did you test drive both on highways at highspeed >100 kmph? share us the differences you discovered between zest and xcent.

I did not reach >100 but for me other aspects were good enough to take my decision.

BTW i paid my booking cheque for RT XT today and got a delivery date 25th December.

Smart move after your initial confusion. Xcent is good car. But zest is a better one in every aspect. No second thoughts about it. Until honda does wonders for amaze with upmarket interiors and a reduced NVH in cabin, you dont have to worry about any competition in the road for zest. so happy cruising in zest. Congratulations to you.

I don't think that 1.2 iVtec has any NVH issues. Infact, its the most refine engine of the lot followed by 1.2 VTVT of Hyundai's and K Series of Maruti. Zest's Revotron engine is good as it's a turbocharged, but being a 3 cylinder engine won't be as refined as proper 4 cylinder one's.

It would be good to know the ratio of Petrol:Diesel sales of Zest. Very promising car let down by supply constraints, waiting period. I am also thinking of Zest petrol as a replacement for Figo Petrol.

Nishant, Zest RT is 4 cylinder engine not 3 cylinder.

IMHO, Zest Petrol will be selling more than Zest Diesel, seeing the Petrol vs Diesel price trend. Also, ECO mode of RT allows to close the Petrol vs Diesel FE gap to a great extent.
