I can see Tata kite, coming up. But it doesn't feel anything like a winner. Tata need to start building stuff from scratch and make new platforms rather than trying on 10-15 year old platforms if they want to be the market leader.
Every other person commented the same words then the saw the initial test mules of the ZEST. TATA Motors was quite successful in keeping with the the secrecy of the car till they first showcased the cars in the launch event and did quite surprise all.

Now I see the same words repeat. Why can't you hold your horses till the final product is revealed. No offence to your statement! Please don't mind my harsh words, but I think it'll be a worthy wait. Coz Tim Revelton is at the other end, I'm sure they'll pull out a rabbit from the hat!

New platforms don't happen overnight but the first iterations will be revealed in the 2016 AUTOEXPO for sure.

Thats what they thought earlier. Its clearly mentioned in the quote i provided. Here again for you:

Hyundai wasn't facing any sort of production issues and yet, the Korean carmaker managed to sell a mere 64 units more than the Zest in November. Above all, Tata had such a bad reputation in the Indian market as Taxi maker, niggles in servicing and still with all this brand image problems Zest managed to outsell Honda Amaze right from second month of launch and for two consecutive months in a row. The third month margin being very respectable 525 units(in october the Zest sold only 42 units more than the Amaze, but in November the former sold 525 units more than Amaze!) which is just short of 64 uints of Xcent.

Honda done. Now Hyundai to beat in the coming months!
Like it or not, the demand for Tata Zest is growing every month.
I had already read what you mentioned. I have nothing against Tata and i wish every Tata car should be a grand sucuess. Most of their cars are very VFM. So that other companies also come on their way and custmers can enjoy the benefits.

But we have to look at other side of the coin too. What i mentioned in my earlier post was Amaze and xcent were launched months before and their sales were well settled now.As per my memory, the initial months sales of these models were beteen 5-6 K.
In case of zest, Tata were launched this car after several months preparation and many advertisements. This car has turbo petrol engine and first in segment diesel automatic that too in attractive price. Still they only able to get 10K bookings and only able to deliver approx 3.5k nos every month is disappointing. This no were reaches Dzire's one month sales. The Indica/indigo CS were sold in huge nos on the initial period i guess. Are they only expected 3500 numbers sales even in initial months or they thought like the initial sales hype will over within 2-3 months and they can manage with these numbers? I know zest delivering 1/4th numbers of their total number and it is better than their earlier situation.Still..may be my expectation over Tata was higher like everytime.

Well, both the companies and TATA Motors are at the opposite end of the receiving scale. People are sceptical of TATA Motors where as positive about the other two. The hype got them the initial pull but the set backs after the initial hype settled then they settled at a lower number. ZEST had initiate scepticism but as the car comes out clean, clear and positive mood sets in, then there will be a sure and steady rise in numbers. Also production has been limited from the company side. Success had prompted increase in the production which was not anticipated keeping it's previous track record. So now plans to romp up production will take time.

Have already voted to make the Zest the car of the year on an another forum.

Now awaiting the polls to start in TAI.

Having driven one and looking at everything on offer - the car is a simply brilliant package, its just that the petrol engine is a bit of let down for a turbocharged unit.

And yes, I came across a Tata Bolt near the plant here and the car looks fantastic. In fact a friend of mine told me that he also saw one in Chandigarh too two days back and he also had to say only good things about the way the bolt looks.

Zest will come above xcent in sales in December for sure. But never will zest be a competitor for dzire. Similarly bolt will sell good initially but cannot ever produce a threat to swift. For that Tata has to make new models with the same fit and finish or better fit and finish rather than going hibernation for 10 years after a single car launch. I can see Tata kite, coming up. But it doesn't feel anything like a winner. Tata need to start building stuff from scratch and make new platforms rather than trying on 10-15 year old platforms if they want to be the market leader.
Agree

In terms of design I think Tata Kite Sedan will be a huge leap.

Car of the year award also considers the number of units sold. Do can't complain if i20 comes on top beating zest. Zest is good but Tata is just sterling mere 3.5k per month. That cannot make Coty.

I Voted for Amaze.

Took a test drive of Tata Zest and Honda Amaze Diesel as Xcent diesel was never considered due to under powered engine and Dzire due to less backseat and boot space .For me good look (somehow didn't like the aesthetics of Zest), spacious interiors (Zest also has it) , powerful 1.5 lit diesel engine, better mileage and good ASS are more than enough to outweigh Bluetooth or other smaller features. Finally decided to buy Amaze in December.

TATA Motors Withdraws Alloy Wheels & 333 Maintenance Plan From Zest [surprise][anger]

Tata Motors had originally offered alloy wheels and 333 maintenance plan as standard on the Zest as part of the introductory offer, making the model an extremely value for money offering

Launched at an extremely competitive starting price of Rs. 4.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), Tata Motors managed to hit the sweet spot with the new Zest compact sedan resurrecting the company’s fortunes in the market. Well loaded with a host of segment first features on offer, the Zest has been positioned as a value for money offering and is currently the company’s best selling product. Now four months into the launch, the automaker has decided to withdraw some of the features from the Zest which were earlier offered as standard and part of the introductory pricing.
Tata Motors has decided to withdraw alloy wheels from the Zest which were earlier offered as standard. The alloy wheels will now be offered only on the top-end variants with effect from 1st January 2015. Apart from the alloys, the company has also decided to hold back the 333 Maintenance plan on the sedan which entitled the car to 3 years or 45,000 kms of free maintenance, 24×7 roadside assistance and 1,00,000 kms warranty coverage for 3 years.
These features which were earlier part of the introductory pricing will now have to be purchased separately from the dealer. In addition, the excise duty revision will also spike up prices by a good 1-2 percent. Nonetheless, with the price revision as well, the Zest will still remain a competitively priced offering, undercutting the competition on several folds with features like smartphone integration, navigation as well as ABS, EBD and Corner Stability Control offered on the higher variants.
Powering the Tata Zest is the 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine producing 90 PS and 140 Nm of torque and the 1.3-litre diesel unit producing 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque. Both the motors come paired to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard, while the diesel engine also comes paired to the F-Tronic AMT unit. The automaker has been averaging well over 3000 units in the past months and the same momentum is expected to continue in 2015 as well. With the Bolt launching by the end of January, Tata would want to create a better differentiation between both the products and is likely to offer alloys and the maintenance plan as standard on the hatchback for a limited period.

The December advertisement which says No 333 plan and No Alloy Wheels on lower variants clearly backfired. Atleast they should have continued this till they sell around 50k cars. MOre cars on road will improve the confidence in potential buyer.
