Hello Aakaash,
My total fe for 6k kms is not 18 its around 13.
18 is max I got on highway trips.

My issue is that FE is not consistent throughout the long drive even if other parameters remain same.
Hi I too have a buzz blue MJD and share your concern at not having achieved more than 20.5 ever, despite driving very carefully (so I'd like to think, at least). Also, I feel the mileage has dropped - it used to give me 16-16.5 in the city and with 3.5k on the odo, it has dropped to 14.5-15. Not sure if it's the weather thats making me drive slower and brake more than earlier, but have asked TML for help as the 1st service (actually a checkup) didnt turn up anything.

TML has been amazingly helpful, and responded the same day, with an offer to do a mileage test with me, based on which they will take further actions. I was busy at work, hence got it postponed to the next week. Will update once the test is done.

I haven't driven a Zest to calculate mileage. I drove it only for a short duration. these are thoughts that came to my mind:

1. Keep the AC blower at 1 when you start the car and the increase to 2 or 3. make sure that you are not below 40kmph, with the blower speed above 2.
2. I would the ideal shifts point are 1600 rpm for this vechile.

mileage depends on fuel used(quality of fuel), air pressure, gear shift, braking, weight on the car, air resistance, road and so on.

Car engines are at their prime best above 25k kms. If possible try finiding a reputed fuel station and fill at them, because at quality of fuel determines mileage.

suprise to see FE as 13, I am not sure why but I doubt if its a car fault. I will keep you posted on my car, but to reiterate few things about my driving
1. Keep the car idle for 30 sec in the morning
2. Dont switch on AC unless I start my journey
3. As said, unless required, never press the clutch
4. Keep the rpm before 2k
5. Change the gear around 1600 rpm
6. Kept ac temp around 25 and always on fan speed 1
7. have driven with max 3 people on board with almost 50kg on boot
8. always makes a slow increase in car speed, never to push my car
9. I double sure that, I shift the gear smoothly, just a feather touch
Thats it. nothing much different I do and this gives me 17 in city and 21.8 on highways (with ac), without ac it goes upto 24.
Sometime when stuck in b2b traffic for 30 min, I get FE of around 8

As per TBHP reviews no firmware update can get navigation to existing Zest since it needs extra memory.
Bolt has been equipped with more memory to take care of Video playback and Navigation.

What I read was you require extra memory for Video playback but not for Navigation. Since Harish's friend works for Harman IIRC, he can throw more light on this.

Is the test done? any update?

Thank you guys for the tips.
But I do follow most of them from day one.
I think you all are missing the real point I'm making.
I am able to get good mileage during the first 50 around kms. But starts dropping after that on even good highways.
So if its that engine has to open up or my driving style, how I'm getting more than 25 on highways for the first 50 kms?

Now, the city mileage looks better and I'm getting above 14.
But the long drives on good highways are not returning what it should. 16-17 is what I'm getting.

Its true that navigation mirroring feature is technically very much possible to run on 256 RAM. Video play back is technically not possible.
But whether mirroring feature should be given to old customers is a decision that has to be taken by the TML product team. We cant do much than to wait and watch [:)]

Hi Guys,
Need suggestion for model. I just test drove AMT [ automatic ] model and liked it. Before I am thinking to buy XT ,but after driving AMT ,felt very good and confusion started.
Please suggest which one will be better in long run, as I read somewhere that in AMT may need more service because of clutch wear n tear.
Also I just got Driving License and has hardly driven any car for 50 KM. But I can manage with clutch ,as it takes couple of months to be a confident driver. And I stay in Banglore where traffic is very bad.

Dear Members,

I just became the proud owner of Tata Zest QJD XMS (Buzz Blue)[:)], this forum has helped me in making my decision to buy this car. Thanks to all of the members for their reviews [thumbswink]

Below is the latest update as on 7th Jan 2015

1. MIB issue not fixed
2. Door pads color changed from beige to dark grey
3. While pressing the clutch foot get in touch with steering bar. This feels more in reverse gear. It seems to be due to long clutch press. I am getting used to it but sometimes it feels annoying.
4. Just completed 400+ KMs, got FE around 14.5 KMPL. It's only city drive (Delhi/Gurgaon).

Earlier I used to drive Santro Xing and really don't see any issues while driving this car. It has awesome headroom & legroom. Driving position is very nice only issue with thick A pillar which blocks the view and makes sharp turns difficult but in any case we have to slow down the speed at turns (getting used to it)

Suspension is quite nice and works very well on bad roads as well. NVH levels are well controlled no vibrations inside cabin (gear knob remains calm, quite impressive). I was bit skeptical of diesel engines after feeling the NVH levels in Ford and VW.

Car has got some additional accessories and treatment
1. 3M antirust (underbody)
2. Paint protection treatment + scotch guard lamination for running board
3. Reverse parking sensor from TATA itself, it's Autocop parkpro 7000
4. Door beading
5. Steering cover
6. 3D Mats (bought online from ebay)

Here are some random pics. Will upload more pics soon

Hi guys, I am back after a 500-km trip to Chandigarh and Ludhiana. Total FE for the trip was 18.6 on the odo reading in which 20% city driving and 80% highway driving without AC. The car was so smooth to drive on the highway. Never went above 80 and 2000 RPM.

What do you say is it good FE as it is my first diesel car?

Its a very good FE for new car.
I guess after proper Run in and service, you will see 20+
My petrol i10 gives 23 when driven at 80 KMPH.

It should be possible to get 20~24 on diesel zest with relaxed driving.
