Hi all, Congratulations to the new owners of Zest.

so I took my car for the mileage check as earlier. It was a treat to see so many Zests together, and all owners seemed generally happy with their cars. After a wait of 30 min, my car was taken in for a 'reset' of ECU, and then for a 60 km mileage test on open roads by Concorde workshop person driving. He drove well, at a steady 50-70 km/hr, keeping the RPM between 1000-1600 RPM at most times.

At the end of the trip DIS showed a mileage of 26.1 km/hr! Getting the tank refilled gave a mileage of 22.6 km/hr. So it seems the fuel efficiency is fine, but now I'm wondering why the DIS shows a 15% higher mileage than actual. Did they re-calibrate to show higher value as I hadnt noticed so much difference earlier. I guess I will come to know over the next 700 km i.e. a tankful.

There is no fix for the mud inside the engine compartment by Tata Motors, though I havent yet found it to be a big problem, maybe will realize during rains :-)

Also, asked the workshop to check and found the 4th year warranty shows in their systems, though no gold AMC, and no document yet. I paid Rs 8,200 extra, was that for 4th year warranty only, or should I have the gold AMC as well - can one of the owners let me know?

Hi Guys,
Need suggestion for model. I just test drove AMT [ automatic ] model and liked it. Before I am thinking to buy XT ,but after driving AMT ,felt very good and confusion started.
Please suggest which one will be better in long run, as I read somewhere that in AMT may need more service because of clutch wear n tear.
Also I just got Driving License and has hardly driven any car for 50 KM. But I can manage with clutch ,as it takes couple of months to be a confident driver. And I stay in Banglore where traffic is very bad.
Hi, I test drove an AMT recently - it works well, albeit slightly slower than manual gear change. As a new driver in Bangalore, I recommend you to go for it. It will REDUCE clutch wear, compared to MT, not increase it.

AMT is simpler & less expensive than DSG or CVT automatic transmissions. So I dont expect AMT will add much to long term maintenance, but as it is newly introduced in india, for your peace of mind, you can opt for extended warranty. Hope this helps your decision-making.

Hello Harish,

I'm about to buy Tata Zest. I would like to know where do we look out for VIN in TATA Zest. I've opened the bonnet and couldn't find where it is exactly. If possible please post a PIC on VIN's location that would be great.

Hi Ramesh, You can find it in 2 places
1. It's printed on the windshield right corner
2. It's also engraved on the metal present near the driver seat

Congratulations for your new car :).

Where did they install the Autocop PP 7000 ? It would be great to have some pictures of the same.

Thanks and Regards,
Anmol Gagroo

Dear Members,

I just became the proud owner of Tata Zest QJD XMS (Buzz Blue)[:)], this forum has helped me in making my decision to buy this car. Thanks to all of the members for their reviews [thumbswink]

Below is the latest update as on 7th Jan 2015

1. MIB issue not fixed
2. Door pads color changed from beige to dark grey
3. While pressing the clutch foot get in touch with steering bar. This feels more in reverse gear. It seems to be due to long clutch press. I am getting used to it but sometimes it feels annoying.
4. Just completed 400+ KMs, got FE around 14.5 KMPL. It's only city drive (Delhi/Gurgaon).

Earlier I used to drive Santro Xing and really don't see any issues while driving this car. It has awesome headroom & legroom. Driving position is very nice only issue with thick A pillar which blocks the view and makes sharp turns difficult but in any case we have to slow down the speed at turns (getting used to it)

Suspension is quite nice and works very well on bad roads as well. NVH levels are well controlled no vibrations inside cabin (gear knob remains calm, quite impressive). I was bit skeptical of diesel engines after feeling the NVH levels in Ford and VW.

Car has got some additional accessories and treatment
1. 3M antirust (underbody)
2. Paint protection treatment + scotch guard lamination for running board
3. Reverse parking sensor from TATA itself, it's Autocop parkpro 7000
4. Door beading
5. Steering cover
6. 3D Mats (bought online from ebay)

Here are some random pics. Will upload more pics soon

Hi Proud Zest owners, pls mention RT or QDJ along with your milage numbers.
we have so many people quoting milgae numbers and just by looking at the numbers, it is really hard to judge what engine it is .

if you could mention RT or QDJ along with your milage numbers, it woud be great help for other members who are looking for milage figures. Thanks

Mostly City, but I follow 30-second rule at start and stop of car at end of day.

Also, I do not go higher than 2000 RPM and try to change gears below that and not more than 60 speed.

Just now received a call from my dealer, AutoVikas Moti Nagar that Tata Motors is organizing a family get together with breakfast and special arrangement for live World Cup screening for loyal Zest customers on Sunday at Country Club, Manesar at 9 a.m. in the morning as a gesture of thanks for making Zest a success.

Has anybody else also received call regarding same?

Hi all, just saw in the newspaper about the new zests having Video playing as well as navigation features, and on further enquiry no scope for the old zests.! Now this is unfair! :/
