re: Tata Safari 3.0 Dicor: Burnt, Recovered and Reclaiming @1,55,000 Kms

Limp mode above 1500rpm? Does it occur everytime? What do you do when it occurs on the highway while you are overtaking? Could be a very nasty situation.

Most 3.0 that I have seen (including my friend's 3.0) have the check engine light problem. It would come on for no particular reason and go off once the engine is turned off and started again. Tata mechanics have no permanent solution for it. Some faulty sensors working overtime I guess.

Yes, the engine goes into limp mode when the check engine light comes-up. The pick-up drops and the car accelerates like a elephant. You're right, there is check engine light problem which is common over the 3.0 Dicor lot. The Tata mechanics too told me that this is common. But, if this thing occurs more frequently. I will get it checked extensively once the car gets some time.

Strange. My friend's 3.0 never goes into limp mode when the Check Engine lights comes on - vehicle performance remains exactly the same. If I remember correctly, Umalkar's 3.0 also does not suffer from limp symptoms when the Check Engine light on his 3.0 comes on. I guess whether the vehicle will go in limp mode or not probably depends on which sensor sends the check engine error code to the ECU (there would be more than one such sensor). Just a guess though.

How are the Apollo Hawkz performing?

May be some specific sensors have todo something with Limp mode. You will feel the loss in pick-up when you are cruising @5th gear and suddenly you need to overtake or increase speed. The car picks speed at snail's pace.

The Hawkz are doing there job. Their real test would be in rains, when I go offroading on the slushy farmhouse road in my village.

Well, limp mode or no limp mode, the 3.0 always picks up speed at a snail's pace anyways:lol!:.

Managed to source the lost cladding. Part no. 269981506351 - Hinge Cover Upper TG. Rs. 261.15 plus VAT Rs. 34.63 (in a perfect world there'd be no tax and Tata would make a trouble free SUV). Peace.

From where did you managed to source this part? Was it Sanghi?

Jabalpur motors. Sanghi's a thug. Got a cheap Chinese spray paint too (Rs. 70) and painted the cladding. Will fit them tomorrow if I remain at bhiyao city.

Got the car serviced on 29th march @1,45,000 Kms. Gear Oil, Engine Oil, Differential Oil, Diesel Filter, Oil Filter, LHS side cladding, Interior cleaning, exterior wash and other small tid-bits. Bill came to 11040 Rs.

Today the brakes failed, dropped the vehicle immediately at TASC. The LHS rear wheel brake cylinder leaked. Getting them changed as of now and the MAF sensor also failed. Getting it changed too.

Last time I had got my friend's 3.0 serviced, the cost of all oils alone plus coolant was slightly less than Rs. 5000. Man this elephant can drink an ocean dry.

How much did the cladding cost?

Is MAF sensor available in the market? Whats the price?

Hope the brake failure didnt lead to a crash. The 3.0 has dual circuit brakes so the front discs must still have worked.

Please keep the thread updated.

The difference in oil prices maybe as I got it changed at TASC. The side cladding costs 1350 Rs. Actually, I mis-spelled it was'nt MAF but Boost pressure sensor which costs 2300 Rs and is not yet available at TASC.[frustration]

The rear brakes were'nt working for last 10K kms atleast, this I came to know after I got the rear wheel brake cylinders changed, the difference in braking is drastic. But, the front were working fine.

That's cheap compare to 2.2 service cost or gear and differential oil is cheap is it possible to upload invoice or at least part where they have mentioned cost

Item No. 5 - Minor Service (every 5000km)? The 3.0 has 10000km service intervals aint it? What all does this minor service involve?

Its a computer feed statement. Inactual, it means General check-up which includes suspension and all other bolts tightening, Battery, all other electricals check-up, other routine servicing tasks.
