^^Simple, because I love petrol cars and hence I can be on the same point even after 130 pages.
Fact:Every discussion always revolves around a single point itself.

Overall:
Heart-Petrol.
Pocket-Diesel.

^^You need reason?Okay, let me recite some for you:

  • More linear power delivery.
  • Wider rev range to play with.
  • Better handling due to less nose-heaviness and better weight distribution.
  • Silent cabin.
And a lot more..if you need..

BTW,why you asked such an easy question?

You asked the but didnt see your answer.
I have driven only then diesel engine more and very few petrol hearts.
So my point
Fiesta 1.6 petrol has more power than 1.4 diesel
But i cant feel the power in petrol but it has more pickup.
The diesel engines humming sound and turbo whistle are lovely.

"The diesel engines humming sound and turbo whistle are lovely."?
omg. When I hear those sounds, I feel that the car is really suffocating.
When you rev a diesel heart, the car feels like an old grandpa while revving petrol its a young chap urging to be pushed more! [:)]

if i want a car for city ride or hilly roads, a diesel will be like hell

So this is your problem.
You must drive new generation diesel engines to have some good sound effect.

So you mean any day anywhere its petrol only, who is the winner?

Then try to accelerate your ride(petrol) without pressing pedal on any incline[evil], Try to do the same with a diesel car. You'll know first reason why we love diesel[;)].

In city you'll need min. gear changes in case of the diesel.

On highway, still you'll find diesels much better derivable then petrols.

AND GUYS YOU CAN EXPECT FROM A DIESEL TO BEHAVE LIKE A PETROL BUT VICE-VERSA IS NOT POSSIBLE

[evil]

I consider diesal engine just because they are eco friendly and FE compared to petrol

other wise I see no difference between both in terms of permormance .

Fiat 1.4 linea tjet is 200+nm torque where as similar 1.5 l ivtec is 130+ nm torqu.
It all come down to how designers and manufacturer utilized their resources i.e brain.

If somebody says diesal engine is noisy I am sure he has not waken up from the age of balck and white television..lol and ask him to see a BMW diesal mill.
And latest one is 1.5litre 3 cylinders engine. Which has already gathered enough acolades.
Of course diesal fuel has more power to unleash which is skewed to make engine more fuel efficient.

They say America and England are separated by English language.

We see something similar in TAI most of the days.

What druvpandit wanted to communicate and what you understood are different.
He mean't Diesel for Cities and Hills and Petrol for Highways.

(I am not saying that you people made a mistake. But proper two way communication did not happen here)

Hell, in a sense means extra ordinarily tempting.
I believe such terms penetrated into language out of belief systems where desires and temptations are sin and way to hell !!
Hell of a beauty ! Hell of a performance !
@auto ,lol!
Hope I am not wrong.

Toyota etios is noisy than Maruti wagon R, from my experience.

my fiat punto diesal is far more silent at any rpm than old generation petrol cars.
Hope you have heard the sound of ambassador petrol ..so on and so forth

It all depends upon how the engine is designed to meet with sound and vibrations.
if manufature finds his engines dont sell because of noise, he will call his engineers around the table to think.
