Sorry guys didn't log on for a few...While you are partially right, none of us is signing Ciaz off. Just discussing if it would kick the segment leader in the butt or not. Now we will know soon enough. What was it, 25 Sept? Soon enough, but I'm going OT and waiting for the VW Polo GT TDI. Love you. Bye!

Roll out the red carpet for the puny 1.3 DDIS [lol] ? Just because they are giving bunch of projector headlamps and asthetic looks, I am not gonna fall for it. Ciaz Diesel is for full time sedate drivers. This engine is going to struggle if you are pushing it hard. Well, I know you guys like the Ciaz but its just my perspective.

Note in Suzuki's case they do not have a localized engine to compete considering the price sensitive market.
However since the S cross will be coming with a 1.6 diesel engine it is reported the Ciaz with 1.6l diesel will phase in May 2015. Let us await for the news at launch.

How long, after the launch, should we expect the official review :stupid:? Looks good. After the comparison between the 0-100 times of Ciaz and City, I think it might attract some enthusiasts. Having a car with the same engine (but lower displacement, 1.0 l),I can say it works really well. But GM has contributed, so the Beat TCDi XSDE performs well. And the 1.3 l MJD is also available in Chevrolet Sail and UV-A, Swift, Dzire, the Punto and Linea itself so, a buyer only there for the engine would look at the Punto and such, it's cheaper too. Fingers crossed...

Yeah bro, 1.6 is 8 months away and I would love to buy one if they give that engine. I have very extensive experience with Swift DDIS and Fiat cars. Fiat Punto 90 bhp is just perfect, I love the way it rides and handles and I would always choose this car over a GT TDI considering its cheap maintenance costs. But at the same time Fiat Linea is so heavy that I need to rev the engine upto 3000-4000 rpm to get proper performance and with the AC on performance even degrades. People say its a rev friendly engine but over time wear and tear happens if we take the revs to 3,000-4,000 rpm very often. Do you really think Ciaz can climb a steep up hill with 4 people on board with AC on like its competition ? No way. That engine is just not enough. Like I said its for sedate drivers and for people who travel a lot. Since Maruti is cheap to maintain than a Honda.

Hold on, it is just less than a week the Ciaz will be available for all to see. Yes with the 1.6 it would have drawn a greater interest but let us wait for the specifications and test drive and for us to draw conclusions. Now it seems pricing is crucial taking the Ciaz to higher success.[:)]

Bookings for the Ciaz open on September 3rd.
Maruti has carefully benchmarked the Honda City, with the aim of wresting sales away from the undisputed segment leader by offering a mix of features, space and value with the Maruti Ciaz. In fact, some of the styling elements of the Maruti Ciaz, like the rear tail lights bear a striking similarity to the City whilst the interior room is also expected to be as spacious as the Honda. Maruti has also packed the Ciaz with a long list of features to pamper mid-size buyers who now expect the same level of equipment as in bigger cars.

Who is writing Ciaz off? Where in my post did you see that? I clearly mentioned it will dethrone Verna from second position if priced Reasonably. How is that writing it off? In fact i clearly mentioned if Petrol variant is priced good i may buy it for my father. Now why will i write off a car and buy it as well[roll]
Thats what my point was, I was replying to the other quote.

Not at all. I am glad Maruti is taking such steps and i clearly mentioned this competition in C segment will only be good to us buyers.
Yes agree, competition will help and offcourse buyers will have options to choose from.

Buddy which Maruti car you are mentioning is rattle free? I owned an esteem for 5 years. It rattled like crazy. My best friend has a swift which i have driven extensively. Its a rattle king. Another friend has an Alto. Same rattling story. In fact with Maruti this is my biggest complaint that it rattles so much and i sincerely hope Ciaz changes that perception.
My family (including relatives) owns WagonR, Swift, Ertiga, SX4, 3rd Gen Honda City, Nissan Sunny to name a few, and out of which I felt WagonR was the least rattle free and easy to maintain and so was SX4. I never visted service station except for regular servicing but was not the same case with other cars. On Indian roads, even the german cars would rattle. But then this differs from owner to owner , thus i leave it to them to decide.

Biggest selling point for Maruti is the small cars didn't have any direct competition. Most reliable makers like Honda, Toyota, Hyundai were not serious about small cars. This will change in future.
Sorry, I don't agree here. Maruti didn't have competition in 90's, but today we have small cars from almost all manufaturers in India. Specially in last 5 years, we have seen many new entries in small car segment but baring Hyundai, nobody could compete with Maruti cars. Even the mighty Toyota (Liva) could not challenge. Maruti has almost 45% of the market share out of the 80% share, as they are not in SUV segment which has close to 20% share. This is commandable, and we should give due credit where it belongs!
Not all products from Maruti are successful (A-Star, Estilo, Baleno, Vitara to name a few), but looks like they learn fast from the mistakes. And they have good plans for future as well.

People do buy Maruti cars thinking they will be cheap to own and thats a fact. Otherwise Sx4 would have been a top seller instead of City when Sx4 had more features and undercut City in price point.
Agree, my point was the same. Maruti cars are easy to maintain that means cheaper parts. SX4 was a no match for 3rd gen Honda City and neither was a match for Verna, thus failed.

Lol. That is a rubbish comparison. How can you do any comparison between a finished product and a product which has only provided spy shots with bits and pieces of information which we can't even know is true or not. Gaadiwaadi.com is only trying to grab eyeballs with such gimmicks. Let's keep the true comparison to the day Ciaz is officialy launched as its not fair to both cars right now.
Yes, lets wait & watch.

Its confirmed Ciaz is not coming with 1.6MJD. its coming with 1.3 and trust me that will be a major factor for a customer while buying it. A person spending million bucks these days at least checks how many bhp a car has. I know cos my father with his very limited knowledge of cars always checks what engine it has.
No one is labeling Ciaz as a cheap sedan. In fact i want it to succeed.
Agree. As mentioned in my earlier posts in this thread, 1.6 Ltr MJD was a key for Ciaz but if its not available, they are loosing the USP. Let us see how Ciaz is priced and how is it loaded.

And so is the Earth Dreams engine in City, it calls for sedate driving. But many people like the sudden surge/punch in Fiat MJD post 2000 RPM which is missing in some other engines which are tuned for lesser turbolag to allow better drivability in city.
Only the Verna can be a strong contender here with 128 BHP on tap.

.
Fiat 1.3 MJD is a torquey engine, but that can be only enjoyed in the swift which is light weight, but it cannot be enjoyed in the heavier Ciaz or Linea. We can only push that engine for top speeds. Yes, I agree that 1.3 mjd engine has a great potential, but I am done with it. Maruti is using the same engine in all it's segments. I don't need 128 bhp, I am least bothered about the bhp. I just want an engine which could pull the weight of the car at ease. And does not struggle while the AC is on. If you see Fiesta or Vento, AC on or off, it doesn't matter, the car feels the same. That's the kind of performance I want. Even if you add a VGT turbo, it just has a bigger intake into manifold which amplifies the boost and uses the power of the engine more efficiently. So, technically 1246 cc doesn't satisfy my requirement.

Some more pics of Ciaz...

This was taken during the tv commercial shooting.
In the second picture, I see that it has ZDI'+' badge. Seems that Maruti has plans to offer optional premium package over conventional top end of Maruti i.e ZDI.
Can anybody confirm this?

Right, and thats why 1.6 Ltr MJD would have been a game changer for Ciaz, but looks like they are not providing. But now with the ZDI "+" trim (featured above) there looks some possibility for it. Just a weired guess [;)]

Yeah bro, this is what even I am thinking too. Thanks for sharing [:)]. I wish Maruti gives us the engine options to choose from, people who want to buy 1.3 will buy 1.3 and who wants 1.6 will buy 1.6 MJD. I wish things were like this.

Ciaz reaches dealers, media drive starting now.

K14B petrol with 92bhp, 1.3 DDiS diesel with 90bhp. Safe to assume Ciaz won't be a firecracker to drive

Back seat will be big draw for Ciaz, majoring as it will on space and ride comfort. And expect bling-bling style
Ciaz (half size) bigger than City/Verna/Vento but priced bang against them. It is SX4 replacement; but Civic space at City price

Off to Jaipur to drive upcoming Ciaz
