Re: Suzuki's New Premium Hatchback Baleno Now Launched!

Looks like this 1.0 Boosterjet engine is a no match when compared to Ford's 1.0 Ecoboost engine. The power figures of Ecoboost is 125bhp and 170nm of torque.

https://youtu.be/9mG1tLtUSJQ

But as per the above video between 7:20 ~ 8:30, he says when there is higher octane fuel available in India the Boosterjet can be tuned to 112 bhp and 170nm of torque. But Ecoboost already makes the same power output even with 91 octane fuel.
Fords Ecoboost engine is in a whole different league compared to Boosterjet engine, but the issue is Ford puts the wrong engine in their cars, like Ecosport is 1246 kg and its tall so aerodynamically too its CD is high, so its always better to use bigger motor in such a tall heavy car,
Ecoboost should have been put in something like Global Fiesta,Figo,Aspire, then there would have been a strong take for petrol Fords as it would have been more efficinet and faster than any other car in India under 10 lakhs, as of now Figo,Aspire TDCi are among fastest with Ameo ,but petrol side Ford is dud in hatch back and even in compact sedan and C sedan space,

The Baleno is perfect for a turbo petrol, small engine, low curb weight, low GC,Higher CD, this will hive best of both worlds, good mileage and power, small disappointment is no automatic for boosterjet like in Australia etc, and detuning this to 100 bhp will make less of an advantage in Indian conditions but more on paper advatage as Maruti can claim a high mileage number on paper.

I own a Ford Ecosport Ecoboost and it is fun to drive even in 1250kg vehicle, the Hydraulically mounted Engine makes handle much better than its 1.5 and 1.5 TDCI siblings. But you are right that it would much better in a Fiesta Sedan, Aspire or Figo. In fact in 2014, I was waiting if they could give Ecoboost engine with the Fiesta but then settled for Ecosport.

Figo with Ecoboost engine will be great machine. If Ford plans, and undercut Baleno RS in terms of pricing without reducing engine figures mated to good manual transmission it will be a delight for enthusiast.

@Akash, when can we expect a formal review of the Ignis and Baleno RS, TAI-style ?
Buddy, I had been very busy all these days. A marriage function was there in family and many other personal commitments were there and events were there so didn't get space to schedule it. Once I am back from Mumbai after a launch there will definitely prepare the review for them in our patented TAI Style![:D]

I agree, but I have an ecoboost owner here nearby and he says the in city mileage is around 10-11 kmpl, almost same as what the 1.5 gets and the highway mileage is between 17-18 kmpl at 100-90 kmph cruise, but that said on highways the ecoboost is far better than 1.5 to drive but in city the ecoboost needs lot of gear shifts to stay in power band, specially when car has 3 or more on board, the 1.5 too struggles but since its got a linear action its easier to drive than ecoboost.

Ford is planning for a Ford Figo /Aspire Sport trim, the SPort trim will be placed between Titanium and Titanium+ trims and as per known information Sport trim gets 15" alloy wheels and some body graphics, no other major updates
So I dont think Ford is planning for a hot hatch for India as of now

I'm skeptical on the performance gains for this RS of baleno , Maruti may market it like more fuel efficient than normal baleno [:D]

If the specs are anything to go by, the flat torque between 1700 and 4000+ rpm will make for a fast smooth performance between 60 and 120 kph.(sane enough under Indian conditions). The power/torque to weight ratio is still pretty good, and then there are the all disc brakes .

They did it again. 1.4 lakhs premium for an engine.
You can have polo gt which is costlier but the discounts will bring the price equal to the OTR of baleno.

This car should not have been priced above 7 lakhs off road.

Id rather they offered the 1.5 Diesel with AT given the current Figo petrol engine is supposedly already best in class to drive
Even Baleno RS could do with AT

I wish DCT/DSG and AMT werent offered on the wrong cars with the wrong engine combos
