Eagerly waiting for the RS. Love the alloys offered. When can we expect a first drive review?
I don't think they'll offer black colour in production as many people consider black as a bad colour for vehicle. After all its Maruti, they'll be offering it for the masses.

Doubt that. Though its MS, this will be a premium product to take on the likes of the Punto Abarth and the VW Polo TSI. It will also be placed above the Alpha versions of the current car. Since the Alphas cost 8.2L+ (on road Mumbai) now, you can expect the RS to push 10L.

Someone get interior pictures of the RS. Particularly whether the car has that rear aircon vent in the centre console behind or below the arm rest. I find the Zeta circulates air infront of the front seats only and the rear remains with no air movement for a long time

The UK spec Baleno Boosterjet weighs 980kgs. Surely the Indian spec car will be a bit less due to the lack of Safety regulations. Such a light weight for a 100 BHP plus car is a bit unnerving. What is the general experience of TAIgers with build quality of the Baleno ?

Ace,
most are blaming the build of the Baleno to be too light. But I have a different take of it. The skin panels, which most see, are thin and soft. Presumably this is for pedestrian safety in case of accidents and for light weight. However, the sub-structure should be sturdy. There is no real way of knowing this for sure because there have been limited road time and crashes. Those crashes that have happened are at triple digit speeds where in no car would survive anyway. More than the frame, things like acoustic insulation, fittings and other such differ in the car structures. Remember, the EU version comes with 6 airbags

Agree with this. With respect to the sub-structure, I have personally looked at the sub-structure and cross-members that are part of the Fiat Linea for example, and am told that these are removed from most of the other cars because they do not contribute to anything else otherwise. But they do bring down the overall fuel efficiency, which is the single most important parameter for Indian car's performance it seems these days. Its so ridiculous, if people applied discipline on our roads, they would see a much better result with FE. But no, they want to squeeze through whatever gap they find and then screw up their clutch/gearbox and then still demand 25kmpl. Its a bit OT, considering that we are talking about the Boosterjet. I just hope Maruti has not optimised it for claiming 20+ kmpl.

Baleno VRS Model spied

Will come with a 1.0 litre boosterjet engine developed by Suzuki having power outputs of 110 bhp and 150nm of torque.
The engine has some cutting edge tech like Direct Injection and Turbo charging.
This car weighs more than the standard Baleno.
It might come with a manual or automatic transmission; latter being 6 speed Dual clutch.
Spotted this Baleno at western express highway yesterday.

Saahab, the issue is not light weight or anything if this car would have been able to score even 4 star safety rating. Everyone knows that even Euro spec Baleno couldn't score over 3 stars in terms of safety and that in itself is enough of a proof that it 'IS' a compromised car built on a compromised chassis. Enough said.

Re: Spied! Maruti Suzuki Baleno 1.0L Boosterjet

Hi Vipul,

long time no see[:D]

I know 3 stars for the Baleno. Let me be the first to remind you that that rating was with the optional safety kits that is available with the Euro spec. But 3 stars is better than no star for the Swift and like. It no better than the i20's 5 stars but we all know the i20 Euro spec is different from the one Hyundai sells here. Isint this the case for every car thats being sold here?

That being said, there is no excuse for the Baleno's 3 stars. My only point was that the apparent build strength is not from the way the body panels feel but from the chassis. My own Baleno has been collecting a lot of dents in the time, even people leaning against the bonnet, door or quarter panels is causing dimples that no one can get rid of. So far, I have resisted using a pulling bridge or a plunger to sort these. Buts few people have crashed their cars at triple digit speeds and lived. So there is definitely some merit there.
As a city car and at its price point, I feel the Baleno is quite adequate. Most collisions are at lower speeds and that too, the relative velocities of the two cars is even lower. But if you wish to have ultimate safety at triple digit speeds, you need to look a few segments up
