@ surfer

The thread like most of the threads started by you is ending up being a hot bed of heated arguments [;)]

In your budget ( please tell how much max you can stretch ) so far these are the options

Xylo

Scorpio

Storme and old safari .

Ertiga

Enjoy

Tavera .

Force one ( base model )

Grande

If you are willing to wait till mahindra launches w4 variant of xuv , then wait yet we don't know what the price will be .

The thread will go haywire , unless and until you don't specifically mention which you car you won't consider and which you might .

Guys then in return can provide you pros and cons of your preferred vehicles .

I usually find it difficult to make assertions against a company or product. When I do, I get that feeling - may be I am wrong. With that, I would just speak my mind here:
- Avoid TASS. It's not reported to be good. Most Tata car owners (including one of my cousins) get their car serviced at a 3rd party garage. As the car gets older maintenance shoots up based on feedback from existing Tata car owners.
- I don't find the new safari all that good looking. The old one is not bad in looks. I recently had a closer look at a 6 months old storme and found the rear quite bland. I found the shine all gone on the rear wide strip made of non-metallic material bearing the logo and the name (looked a bit primitive).

Anyway, I would avoid TATA car for the first point.

It is Eartigs Or storme for me.
And Yes I can wait for XUV W4 if it is really coming in upcoming 2-3 months.

Agree, but the existing storme owners threads dose not conclude this.
I have some new tata cars in my family and I see the improvement in quality and ass at-least in pune.
Also the showroom and service station is just 1 km from my home.

Ok , I appreciate your opinion , but looks is always subjective.

Hi,

My Brother-in-law is looking to buy a petrol hatchback around 5.50 lakhs budget. His priorities are comfort, equipment, looks, mileage and reliability. Currently he has shortlisted Hyundai i10 Sportz.
Please suggest any better options.

Many Thanks

@Rafian I agree with you if you are talking about 4 to 5 years back situation where even I owned own Indica V2 and had hell a lot of issues with TASS guys. BUT

Today it is not the same, there is lot of improvement in TASS and new age TATA vehicles. We own a Vista of 2012 which is almost one year old and clocked some 30000km so far without a single niggle and our experience with TASS in Hyderabad is very good and responsive. So things are changed a lot man.

Till now None of the Storme owners in our forum have reported any serious issues with Storme or TASS where few of them might very close finishing 15K on ODO

As both are mechanically same there is a good chance that they can happen in Storme as well.

Sankar

TASS generally are not considered the best in our country and i can't comment on Safari Storme as it's new in market but i know very well about Tata Aria which shares all mechanical and underpinning with new Safari Storme.

Let see what the actual owners of safari storme on the forum have to say here it goes

just came back from a 300 KM trip with my Storme, the roads were in Very good, average and very bad state and my White beast covered the entire distance with a smile, there was a section of around 25 kms where roads were washed by rain and looked like an off-road trail but when you drive Storme nobody cares about the roads. On the highway where road was good i was driving at 130 KMPH and the Storme was absolutely smooth but after some time i came down to 100 - 110 because my family was travelling with me. while on the bad roads no one complaint of any jerk or anything. Now the ODO shows a happy 11250K Kms [clap]
Hi Suhas,

I have just recently purchased a Storme and I can tell you from my experience that Storme is worth every penny you have invested.
I have had good experience with the sales team and by purchase experience was between good to very good.
.
I too am one proud and satisfied owner of Tata Safari Storme VX 4x4 and have already completed 12000 kms on all types of roads + even routinely on off road trips on my farm.

The ride is excellent and any type of surface is traversed with ease n elan.
I had also owned a Safari 4x4 earlier so, I am going to dwell upon my experience in relation to that.
The handling is definately improved many folds and the Storme is nimble and composed at any speeds. I have braked at 140km/hr and there was no drama. We have also tried driving over serious potholes where all other vehicals had to really slow down to 5 kms/hr. We managed 50/60 kms per hour - though we bounced and dived around a lot. Most of the passengers were scared (and later elated) but, the vehical never went out of control and the driver was at ease with the situation. The brakes on this vehical are really special. Most SUVs now a days have ABS/EBD etc as standard. What is not standard is having disc brakes on all four wheels. Tata Motors should accentuate this fact. Here I wished Tata had given Safari Storme Traction Control too.

The turning circle is a real improvement and I am able to drive easily through narrowest of Pune inner city lanes. On open highways the vehical is deceptively fast for such a large/high/heavy body. The commanding view from the driver's seat is excellent. With the rear spare wheel now gone, the rear view is also very good. The old Safari suffered on this account.

4x4 with Limited Slip Differential is fantastic. I have come out of 200 mm deep thick mud (where I was stuck in 'stop' position due to a fallen tree) with ease in 4x4 Low gear last month.

Very recently, I parked the Storme and wend to horse around unnder a 30 feet tall waterfall. unfortunately in strong current I lost my car key. We found the key after 4 hours of searve 100+ feet down stream in 2 feet deep water. Upon recovery, we were expecting problems with the key due to water. Our fears were without reason. The key worked as normal from the word go. We all thanked Tata Motors for this that day.

The AC on this SUV s excellent. One should not forget that the inner volume on Safari is morethan most SUVs.

Some improvements that I carried out:
I kept the original single din sound system (which is very good) and removed all the speakers. We fitted top quality Hellix speakers, tweeters and sub whofers (10 in all). We also carried out 'sound deadning' of all the body panels. So, the Storme now is super quiet inside.
3M sun screen film has been a great help too.
In addition to the reverse parking system given by Tata, we fitted reverse camera too.
Now I am awaiting a kit from Tata - decals + nudge guard + chrome strips etc.

Finally, Concorde Motors (Pune) have created a new 'customer experience' for us. The service is top grade and we have satisfied in al respects.

I would recommend Tata Safari Storme to anybody with confidence. What we get for money - very few other SUVs can manage
. I wish we Indians have more pride in our own products.

@ surfer

Which car your family is more inclined to ? Ertiga or storme or xuv ?

My suggestion wait till xuv w4 launches .

Surfer, Everyone know and acknowledges that TASS has been bad in past but everyone knows that either improvise or get killed is the situation for them and they for better have been improvising a lot. Internally I can tell you company is very serious and have been collecting inputs and improvising even minor things on a war footing . So expect better from them.

Having said that I will rate Ertiga above Storme if the need is purely for family city drive need or for rare 7 adult drive. If the need is heavy 7 adults drive consider Storme or many be wait for w4.

Well buddy i won't say that you are wrong but you are not entirely right as well. The whole problem now days is which "Tata Dealership"? and not Tata cars themselves. People need to understand this.
TASS has been improving a lot day by day BUT few dealerships are still trying their best to take it away from Tata.

So maybe the dealership that your cousin used to visit was not upto the mark. So why blame the entire group.[:)]

But various Storme owners are saying that they are extremely happy with the ownership and TASS experience

Guys i have no grudge against Tata vehicles. I apologize for any offensive comments i have made and also if it had hurt you.

But having experienced poor quality and mechanical breakdowns in one of the premium Tata MUV i will never have peace of mind owing a Tata products again. I don't want to go into what my experience was as i don't want to remember it again ever in my life.

Logically yes , but practically I have never heard any bad issue yet from any existing owner.

+111111 for Raja [:D]

Agree

I think we should now concentrate on Ertiga Vs Storme Vs W4 IMO.
