Re: In the Market Looking Out For 4x4 SUV
I saw one too recently, and it looked really good, but then they dont have it for TD and its made to order, i cant buy a car without a TD. Also with most dual cabs the fundamental problem is the second row is very upright generally (not sure of scorpio though)
British and reliability - can they even come in the same sentence legally ?
Personally i would be happy to spend 19 lakhs on nearly new Fortuner(the prev one i was hoping to see was 2012 model with 18k on odo and asking 19 lakhs) than a new Storme at 16.5. The only real advantage Storme has over Fortuner is ride quality - lets admit Fortuner ride quality is too stiff. Yeah Storme panels are thicker as well than the "tin feel" fortuner build. Everything else the Toyota trounces the Tata. The Storme 4x4 should have been under 14 lakhs on road. The Dicor 4x4 I think was much better priced in that sense. Also in my books an SUV should have a manual transfer case.
Agreed our local makers are getting better, but quite honestly no match to the Japanese in the reliability/durability arena, be it a Honda, Toyota, Isuzu, Nissan or Mitsubishi. The Japanese cars age the most gracefully with least rattles - i cant say that as yet for any local manufacturer. Yes spares would be expensive. But check out any forums abroad SA or Russian where they really use SUVs for offroad trails, the Japanese engines do 4 lakh on stock bore and get sold still for a good price.
How about a Scorpio gateway 4x4 , Had seen yesterday . Looked like a Monster !!
give used LRs too. they hardly go wrong but yes servicing will be expensive but that's only a yearly expense.
Hi Iron Rock,
The cheapest Fortuner costs upwards of 15 lakhs for a very good specimen if its from 2009.At that price the New Storme has a case for itself.Don't think that Storme won't be left wanting in any situation that Fortuner takes on.But the only fly in the ointment is the reliability. With TATA its always a risk. Will I ever put my money on the line for a TATA product, heck no.I will rather buy an overpriced Toyota.
Regards,
Aneesh.

C'mon guys, let's not start this again!!! All cars breakdown, from M800 to the Mercs to the Lambos. Reliability is a factor of the %age of vehicles that see breakdowns. Request ALL to not bring this point into decision making, just on the basis of seeing a particular brand's cars brokendown.
^^easy my dear, reliability is also one of the important factor while selection, so there should not be a ban on the same and shouldn't be a breaking head for a breakdown
