^^ Woah! That's a lot of negatives man. I was completely fed up just for one issue, but this many? I don't know what to say.

It was more like feedback of the car. Some positives are also there.

But I have tried getting in touch with Hyundai via Twitter and mail, but till now, no outcome. All they ask is from where do you get the car serviced and that's all.

Re: Hyundai Xcent S 1.2 - My Daily Commute - Owner's View (3rd Service Update @ Pg.13

Update on Car buying decision:
So after tiresome lookout for user Corolla/City, I finally came to a point of realization that this isn't going to happen.

Let me list out the reasons, why?
Against City:
1. Insane asking price for the condition and age of the vehicle which is mostly not well maintained. They think they are doing us a favor by selling their vehicles.
2. Exorbitant service costs. Took an 80k run City to nearest HASS and they quoted whopping ~30-35k for 80k service. I was like [surprise]! Is he trying to rip me off?
3. Very low GC, I mean Xcent is low, but City is the lowest. Add to the soft suspension, I am too scared to take it at my home parking. On the other hand, Corolla
with more or less same GC, behaved well like my Xcent.

Against Corolla:
1. Price, price, and price. You should see how people price 8-year-old car, even for an abused one.
2. Getting the right variant is a tedious task. If we get one, then the 1st point is applicable.

With all these factors in mind, and after a lot of deliberate test drives, I decided to drop the idea for good. Home construction is approaching and with the second kid, I thought I can close the current Xcent loan, use that amount as Investment and buy a car later with more than 50% as a downpayment when I can have enough Cash in Hand.

I know, the inner me is not liking this, but this is by far the most logical decision considering the financial mess I am in right now. So Xcent it is, for next few years. [cry]

Whatever happens, happens for the best bud. FD, maybe something much better is in store.

Yes, I agree, GC issues are there in CITY Ivtec and indeed at many points the ASC does try to take for a ride. As for the price, Honda CITY, the brand name commands a premium. I casually asked about the current re-sale of my model's CITY from the person whom I sold my Maruti Esteem, he quoted Rs. 5.5 to 5.7 L because its the E-Variant but kept well. Though I am not going to sell it but to take a note, this car does have a decent re-sale.

Against Corolla:
1. Price, price, and price. You should see how people price 8-year-old car, even for an abused one.
2. Getting the right variant is a tedious task. If we get one, then the 1st point is applicable.
That's because CITY & Corolla belong to a different segment and Corolla gets a bigger engine too. Apart from that, Toyota's reliability adds up to a higher re-sale.

Wise move I would say. Cars and all are secondary. Cars are just luxury rather I would say, invest in LIC for the kids and yourself & Mrs. FD.

Get a money-back policy for yourself because in-case Mrs FD shows you the door in the middle of the night, you still can manage to survive on your own[lol].

I know, the inner me is not liking this, but this is by far the most logical decision considering the financial mess I am in right now. So Xcent it is, for next few years.
Everyone of us at some point in life face some circumstances not necessarily financial but even otherwise. The best way to deal with them is to keep calm, be patient and look to resolve instead of keep thinking about it. In all this situation, don't ignore your health and family RK.

^^ I agree but commanding a premium for 8+ old vehicle because of the brand name is plain stupid! It's just me but I felt getting a Ford/Hyundai for the same price will be better because I get more for less.

BTW I do have a couple of LIC and SIP as rainy day saving. Now I plan to have one more SIP and invest in shares since I want to save more for both my kids.

If you check out a 7-8 year old Alto or say 2008-9 Wagon R, their re-sale would still be higher than competition. The Brand Name does add a significant bit to the resale.

I knew you will defend City. [lol]

When I bought my Alto, I had crazy offers, good offers and cheap.

For ex:
2009 LX, 75k run at 2.6L
2009 LX, 80k run at 1.9L
2009 LX, 90k run at 1.5L

I chose 80k run as the condition was good and drove better. In fact, it is still going strong at 1.3L km's without adding much to service cost.

Now if you see, the difference between 1st and the 2nd one is too steep and I don't see this with City. No matter the odo reading, condition, they all priced within the same league. Now, this is what annoys me.

Well, its a fill it shut it type of car honestly. Nothing much to be bothered about when own / drive it. My car is closing-in to 70K kms and in 6th year yet by grace of god, it hasn't shown any issue except for the Airbag recall. In 5.5 years for the 1st time I got the brake pads changed and spark plugs changed and haven't invested a lot in it's servicing cost as such. Seeing all these attributes it's negatives are still less than it's positives. Beyond the 3rd gen CITY, the issues began to crop up in it. Still, the "CITY" brand is so strong that no matter what, it would sell and even re-sale[:)].

Quality of Honda has always been good. Infact "City" is the only prominent reason, for Honda's stay in India for so long. It has been like a Main Stay of Honda for all these years. Brand image of City is good and will always fetch good price.

I would like to reiterate one thing. Brand value and quality is one thing, but what they are not considering is, the vehicle age, condition, and the mileage. I don't have an issue to pay 5L for a well maintained, 2010 City with less than 1L km's on ODO. But a beaten up 1 lakh+ km 2010 Honda had an asking price of 6L! [frustration]

Another 2009 90k run beaten up City had an asking price of 5L and a best final price of 4.8L [:D]! Good thing is, both these cars are still waiting at the dealership for a buyer for over 4 months!

If its with the dealer, then story is different. By a very educated and enlightened gentleman at the Maruti ASC I was told that "on buying & selling it further the dealer charges a heavy margin". The dealer may have bought the car for 3L from the owner and invested about 20-30K (on higher side) in the mechanical parts and now they are charging an ultra heavy premium on it. The ASC(s) are quite capable of doing this. True Value of Maruti gave me a price of 40K for Esteem and in open market I sold my car for a much more higher price. The dealer would have sold my car at 70-80K to someone else and would have earned 50% profit on it. That is why I always feel its better to interact with the owner of the car instead of involving these middle men. I won't be surprised if later, the Honda Dealer sells it to either of their employee with a margin of 50-70K. For the employee of the dealer the price would surely be less but for an outside buyer, the dealer will make a damn heavy profit no matter what. What I feel is, High end luxury cars like Merc and Audi(s) etc their dealers are still a shade better when it comes to selling of used cars. As it is these ultra high end cars have huge depreciation so their margin percentage won't be as much but these mass market used car dealers, they are like eagles who catch their prey and eat it and don't even burp.

Had a bad day today.
The car was parked beneath the Golden fort, Jaisalmer and i dont know from where this stone came and hit in the middle of my windscreen. Already talked to my insurance provider will have to go to Jodhpur to get it done.

As @swadesh pointed out, it looks deliberate attempt to vandalise your car. I mean, it could be a random moron or some moron you might have known!

Either way, the loss is for us and I know how it feels. My car had 2 dent/scratch repairs both when it was parked. Update us on windscreen replacement and make sure to get it done from good HASS.
