Re: Hyundai Xcent S 1.2 - My Daily Commute - Owner's View (3rd Service Update @ Pg.13

Out of nervousness i kept RPM above 1000 and turned off the ac.
After this incidence my Xcent has earned more respect from me.
This reminds of my 2 weeks ago. I had to visit my hometown. Since my aunt is also going for the same place, she joined me. While coming back, due to a lot of luggage, I had to switch to my uncle's XUV instead of my Xcent. During the trip itself, she complains ride in Xcent was lot better than XUV or even Xylo and with Xcent she felt a lot comfortable because it doesn't make her throw up! This was the first time someone appreciate Xcent ride quality and I'm glad to hear that!

Until that point, my thought of buying XUV was high but when I think about passenger comfort, it all went down. XUV does have bouncy ride but I never felt my family have different view. So for now, I'm good with Xcent and if and when I replace, it should be another Sedan and not an SUV.

^^ hehehehe
I have a same exlerience like this, my uncle owns a maruti dzire vdi 2014 model, he always used to boast about the ride quality, pick up, comfort about dzire ans how it was a easy and cheap to own car.
Recently we had a 100km trip i was asked to allow him to drive, after 20 kms of driving he started to praise xcent its pickup, riding comfort and featires that nkw he want tk own xcent and sell dzire.
This is how his perception was changed.
Xcent is truly a great car to own.

Yes, it is. After initial ownership period of say, 6 months, I started noticing only the things which Xcent is not good at. But I keep forgetting this is a VFM family CS and not full fledged powerful sedan.

Xcent is a complete package and the most bang for the buck, in terms of features, comfort. Once I started driving various cars, I come to know about the good things that Xcent offers. Yes, Xcent is not going to zoom past cars with 5 passengers and the boot full of load, but it isn't bad either. After all, it's 1.2L engine and expecting too much out of it is ridiculous. But it is a lot better in terms of build quality, interiors, features, and plush ride compared to its competitors.

If there is one thing to complain, it is the integrated head rest that is not getting along with the otherwise decent car.

It will fail\leak every year that's what i meant. I got it changed in my i10 thrice and before selling it , it failed again.

The ac will become 50% effective in the 2nd year , topping up gas won't be effective since it will leak again.

That's really hard to believe. Let's hope that's one of a case. A/C is much better now, in fact, a lot better than it used to be. So I heavily doubt that! Anyways, I am on a lookout for used Honda City and hoping to sell this as soon as possible. Not that it is bad, but my priorities changed.

So, it's been 3 years of owning Xcent and I thought I can update the experience I had so far.

Let's talk about Negatives first!

1. A/C Problems at such early stage of ownership shattered my trust in Hyundai
2. Even after 3 years, I still cannot live with this Integrated Head rest and it isn't letting me have nice driving experience.
3. Minor squeak that only audible for keen listener. No one else complains about it except me.
4. Slight judder/vibration felt in brakes under braking in speeds above 80+(It's reduced a lot, but it's still there)

Positives:

1. Engine Refinement(Next best to VTEC), Period.
2. Easy to drive around City and good enough for Highways
3. Decent FE. Never thought I would get 13-14 in City, but heall yeah, I'm getting.
4. Comfortable ride for passengers.
5. Features. Best in the segment! (Not comparing with Tiago as those are new launches).
6. Well put Interiors and better build quality compared to Competitors. Even after such abuse, not a single rattle. Dashboard has been ripped twice for the
A/C issue but still no rattles from any panels/dashboard. Awesome, I must say.
7. NVH (Must mention, can't control). Except that tyre noise, other noises hardly seeps in. Awesome and put some other cars from a segment above to shame!

Am I happy with my purchase after 3 years. Yes. Except the fact that I missed out ABS/Airbags while picked S variant and integrated head rest, and few issues like A/C
issues, but there is nothing major which made me regret my buying decision.

Get the brake discs refurbished at next service and I am sure it will totally vanish. I am happy that your car takes you for a ride comfortably!

Mine is in it's 3rd year and no issues of AC so far. Over all I'm well satisfied with the car. Just few things that I'm looking forward to change, like Stock speakers.
I don't drive with heavy feet ! and getting FE of around 15 within City (Noida/NCR), which I think is decent for Petrol !.

I too think that I should have gone for ABS/Airbags variant, but chose S instead of S(O).

+1 to that, although I am having grand i10 petrol sportz variant.
But the positives and negatives are almost same.

1. After about 1 year, got the cooling coil changed because of less cooling but after the work, there was a leakage due to which water was seeping onto passenger side carpet. got it fixed after getting the dashboard opened again. service center fault [anger]
2. FE that I get in Delhi traffic with AC in summers is mostly 12-14. In winters, it comes to 13.5-15. At times, I travel to Jaipur via NH-8, my native, on highways I get FE of ~16 with speeds varying from 90-120 (No DFCO implementation in ECM) [frustration]
3. Horn and headlights are very weak, so got both of them upgraded.
4. For one and a half year, brake bite was quite sharp but now it has smoothed out. dont know if its good or bad.
5. Because of Delhi traffic, my clutch feels hard now, ODO at 24500 kms. It may need replacement soon.
6. Sometimes gear lever feels like its hesitating while putting car in first or reverse gear.
7. Dashboard being black and of larger area than competitors, it becomes quite hot when parked in direct/ indirect sunlight, making the AC non-existent for first 5-10 minutes.
8. I got Goodyear 165/65 R14 tyres on my car out of which 2 tyres malfunctioned. one got side wall torn which was replaced under warranty for 50% cost and second one got the tread wall torn/ cracked which is now lying in the boot as a true spare tyre in case of emergency.
9. Tyre upsizing to 165/70 R14 or 175/65 R14 or the standard 175/60 R15 is a must to improve the GC and better ride quality.
10. My height is almost 6 feet, till date I haven't found a good driving position, after every 30 minutes drive I need to readjust myself.
12. Electrically folding ORVM is a boon in traffic jams.
13. I was looking for free flow exhaust from Automech at their Delhi distributor but they haven't fabricated one till now at their head office (Mumbai) so it is a no for now.
14. Air intake hose in engine bay is placed in such a way (sideways instead of towards the grill) that it takes hot and lesser fresh air every time.
15. Also I have got the throttle body cleaned twice because of uneven idling from 750-950 RPM. It still fluctuates sometimes when stopping at a red light for 2-3 seconds. Don't know why even after getting it cleaned just 1 month back.
