Re: Hyundai Xcent S 1.2 - My Daily Commute - Owner's View (3rd Service Update @ Pg.13

A new update, but rather worrysome one!
Lol! Why it is so that most of the unforeseen problems happen to you only in terms of car? Earlier you were taken on a ride by the ASC, now the ASC has screwed up your AC. Why are you not attentive ?

Now with Summer, I can clearly see the difference. Whenever I start my car the A/C performs OK, but over a period of time, it starts to deteriorate and after few minutes, it is nothing but plain air blowing at your face with little bit of chillness.
Funny Dude(FD)! You are facing gas problem as I feel. Get it checked, you might need a refill. Also get the condenser checked as it might be possible, the condenser has become weak. Lastly, check if all wires are properly connected or not. What's the average time, the AC takes to cool in your car at present? Till what time does the AC keeps cooling on a average in your car? However, also note, in summers, it might take a slight more time to cool the cabin for a AC than in normal weather.

Before service, I thought it could be due to filter clogging. But after service, for first few days it seemed fine but with summer, the issue is evident. Now I would like to gather as much information as I can, before I knock the door of HASS. Please help me find out the issue!
Go through the manual of your car as well. It doesn't seem too big an issue unless some major component in AC is malfunctioning.

Regards

I also faced the same problem but i was told by the SA that in front of the radiator, AC grill is there which accumulates dust and dirt which needs to be cleaned by high pressurised jet of water. It looks like after doing that, AC performs better than before.
Will check that too! Thanks for the tip.

Very easy for a business guy to say this to an IT peasant! If only I had time to monitor the service activity! [sleep] I hardly get sleep bro!

It takes around 4-5 mins to cool the car on hot sunny day and less than that on my morning ride. Will try to check condenser. And BTW in my recent service, I did refilled A/C gas!

That is not the full solution to the issue. If there is a issue in cooling then cleaning the AC Grill in front with water jet won't solve the issue forever. It is important to get the AC serviced properly along with the gas level checked. Maruti ASC once did it on my Esteem too this same water jet thing but the cooling remained only for 3-4 days and later it was found the compressor was not working properly. So, don't go just by the words of SA.

If its taking 3-4 minutes to cool, I feel, depending on the weather it is Ok. But, to be double sure, get the AC gas level checked too. It is possible there might be a slight leak in it.

^^ As I said, its been only a month since last service when I topped up the gas. So gas leak is one of the root cause, I guess! [cry]

Not yet man! I'm still with Chola MS and since my NCB is gone, I'm planning to stick with them as they offer the best rates. How about you? What are you planning to get stuck with? [:D]

So I took the car to HASS and found the issue with A/C. After all the diagnosis, it is clear that cooling coil is where the leak is. Since its a long weekend, decided to keep the car with me and tomorrow will be giving to service. Since the job involves removing dashboard, I'm a bit sceptical and fear for rattles. But nothing to do! Damage estimated at around 6k. Does that sound fine? Or is he trying to rip me off again?

I got my car's cooling coil changed under warranty but it feels like the AC is still not that effective. I think I will get the complete AC unit changed as warranty is still not over and I am unhappy with AC during day time in summers. [frustration]

i paid around 4k back in 2012 so 6k seems fine after 5 years. labor rates are a rip off at every sc.

ps : i10's and i20's ac unit sucks. my santro after 8 years and verna after 5 years didn't give this much trouble.

When it was working fine, even in summer, it was more than enough if you ask me! As you said, its better to change the unit if still under warranty.

Yeah even I felt the same. Our Santro never had those issues. These are the small things which make you lose confidence in a brand! [anger]

Update on A/C Issue:
So I called up SA to know about the progress and it looks like the cooling coil is just fine. He said the issue is with thermister. I don't know what this is, but happy to know that cooling coil isn't faulty and the bill came at ~3.5k including labor. Need to take it for long drive and take it back by tomorrow.

As per my knowledge, the thermistor is a sensor in AC unit that helps in maintaining the cabin temperature.

^^ Will upload the bill tonight. Bill amount came at 2921, and that too only labor charges for A/C Service Level 4 with Tax.

SA advised me to run the car for couple of days and give initial feedback. And again after 15 days, Hyundai & SA will call me to know about final feedback which I think it is enough time to identify the issue or can give final verdict on the issue.
