Re: Hyundai Xcent S 1.2 - My Daily Commute - Owner's View (3rd Service Update @ Pg.13

OT:
Here we are discussing how an Xcent goes when AC is switched OFF. Look at the way this dump truck goes and this isn't a car - this is a TRUCK!!

And trucks aren't expected to go that fast. I guess it is accelerating faster as well as going quicker than most of the cars we have in the south of 10 lac.
LOL!

Even I upshift early, between 2-2.2K rpm. I have occasionally taken it to 3.5K rpm and one can slightly feel the push back into the seats. I wonder how this type of driving affects the FE. But certainly feels good to do once in a while.
It became my habit to upshift around 2k rpm and it is very hard for me to change that. FE is sure going to be less, but who cares.

Re: Hyundai Xcent S 1.2 - My Daily Commute - Owner's View (3rd Service Update @ Pg.13

Yesterday night, the roads were super deserted. Tried revving it till 5.5k rpm. 5.5k rpm at 3rd gear touches 110 km/h and handling was a bit of a nervous affair. But the same speed at 5th gear was ok from handling perspective. Is there any reason for this behavior? Can someone explain this?

What you probably felt was torque steer. That is, Front wheels are driven by engine, and oodles of power cause them to slip & misguide the vehicle.

This phenomenon is everyday occurring in powerful FWDs, like XUV 500.

I guessed it. But still wanted to confirm, because I never thought that Torque Steer will be there in my Xcent. [:D]

Re: Hyundai Xcent S 1.2 - My Daily Commute - Owner's View (3rd Service Update @ Pg.13

So, again some bad thing happened to me. Time is not in my favour I guess. I parked my car near my cousin brother's office and went to carry on with work last Saturday. I had carefully parked the car, so that, it won't block any entrance, or for other vehicles. But it looks like some dumb guy in Swift took a bad reverse, and banged in the front left fender. The damage is pretty bad, as the metal in the wheel arch got pushed inside and it locked out of place. Because of this, a tak sound is coming everytime I open/close the passenger side door. See the pics. for more clear info.

I tried to gather some information regarding the vehicle details, but since it was dark in the night, no one noticed the car number. Only information that they knew was, that it is a Black Swift.

Since it was already past 9 and Saturday, I decided to take it to HASS next day. Called up nearby HASS, drove the vehicle to them. After inspecting, he estimated that the repair will set me back at least 5-6 k. Since it was too much for me to pay out of pocket, I decided to Claim it. Damn, I got to claim because of some idiot decided to take reverse without basic knowledge? WTF! Yet to receive update. And I don't know when I will be getting my car back.

I hate these kind of people. Recklessly damaging other's property and not care about it! If I were to do such thing accidentally, at least I will leave my number with nearby shop.

Sad to see that people have no conscience to own up their responsibilities. Did you enquire with any 3rd party bodyshop? 5-6K seems higher for the damage.

The damage is far worse than it looks. The wheel arch is displaced and misaligned. The inner plastic of wheel arch is also crooked. The Reason I went to HASS was, I knew that they would match the paint quality. I don't want to risk this.

@furious_driver - it really hurts man. What is more painful is that this is because of some other fool's mistake.

Yes SS53. It sucks. When I came back to my vehicle, my cousin brother asked me why I have dent in my FL fender. I was shocked to see this, and the rest, I already explained.

Why on earth, such morons are driving. It is much more painful, because, every time, when I do any parking/reversing maneuver, I make sure not to do damage to other vehicles. But if someone does that to me, I feel like mow them down with a truck. I can understand if this happened during some minor accident where the guy swerve to save some biker and hit my car. But during reversing? Come on, he must be one f**king noob to do this!!!

Regarding update, my claim got approved and work started. Will get my car by day after tomorrow.

Did you see if there is any CCTV camera nearby? May be you can try to track down the person if the footage is available. Once you have the number plate it should be easy enough. He/she will not be able to deny compensation if you have video evidence.

Thanks for the suggestion but, Unfortunately, there is no CCTV near that place. It was a residential place. The street is filled with small xerox shops! So no CCTV!! Well, it looks like I have to pay for his mistake.

Finally, I get to experience the legendary Service Center tactics. Why repair when you can replace? Well, they replaced the front bumper and tinkered the front left fender.
Total damage : 10k!!! I paid 1.5k!
I get to look at the bumper and the bumper inside plastic which hold the shape was damaged. But I assume it can be repaired. But as expected, they were keen on replacing it and since I had no option, I give a go signal. Will post the picture of bumper as well as the bill tomorrow.

Did they SA inform you before changing the whole bumper? If the estimate is different from what was initially quote, he should take your permission before going ahead with the work.
Did you calculate how much you will lose in terms of NCB when renewing your insurance?

No, they didn't informed me regarding the bumper replacement. I was furious but there is nothing I can do now. I gave them peace of my mind, but that's that. Regarding insurance premium, I had 25%(+10% if I hadn't claimed this) of bonus and I will be losing that flatly. Apart from that, expect a premium hike of 10%. Total will put me in the ballpark of 15k for my next year premium. [frustration]

Hyundai is notorious for such tactics. What happens to the old bumpers? From my past experience they usually return the old parts to the customer. I've sold the brake rotors and brake cylinder to scrap dealers earlier when i had Santro. Not sure what they do with bumpers. They should have an option to sell it to scrap vendor and recover some of the cost.
