Hello everyone,

My brand new Elite i20 Asta CRDI (red passion) is due for delivery coming friday.

I have a few queries, please help me with some explanation on the same:

1. The default tyres are 195/55/r16 spec. Should the tyres be changed to some other manufacturer or the default ones are ok? If they should be changed, which brand or manufacturer you recommend?

2. Would you recommend up-sizing the tyres' width to '205'/55/r16 tyres?

3. Apart from sun visors, foot mats, 'sparco' antenna, new projector headlights from genome (with 1yr warranty), mud flaps, seat covers, is there any other accessory that this new car warrants?

4. Underbody rust protection is a must?

5. Can I get the alloy wheels that come default from the factory blackened or powder coated to black?

6. How can I enable the auto door lock function (from Gscan)? Did anyone of you succeed in getting it activated in or around Mumbai/Navi Mumbai/Thane?

7. How much did it cost you for the 3rd and 4th year combined extended warranty package for diesel?

8. How's the boot when compared to that of Figo's 295 litres? I know it's 285 litres, but is it as practical to use as was of the Figo? (My previous car was a figo, which turned out to be a lemon)

9. Is there a learning curve to adapt to the driving dynamics of the i20? Please note from past 5 years I had been driving a ford figo until it was sold off last week. I did take the test drive of elite i20 number of times, but they were too short for me to make any clear judgement

10. How would you rate the car on the scale of 1-10?

11. Is the steering that bad? Or you get a hang of it as time passes?

12. Any thing that you'd want me to be cautious about the car?

Not satisfied with the paint quality of Elite i20. Swirls and Scratches are showing up despite being just 2 months old. All our cars are washed in shade with nil sunlight. And I am really surprised by this as my 2 year old Brio doesn't have them. Don't know what has happened, any other Elite i20 owners facing the same ?

Sunlight doesn't matters, the dirty cloth plus dirty water makes the scratches on the paint surface.
No question of using dirty cloth, we use Chamois Cloth which I feel is better then Microfiber cloth in terms of cleaning, water soaking etc. And it stays soft when it is wet.
And we wash under running water and not the conventional bucket method. The washer has been trained hard not to drag pipe along the paint surface, which he doesn't. I am really surprised by this ! Could color be the the reason for this ?

My elite i20 is like 3 months old and I have also seen some scratch marks on it.

Yes , It's for soaking the water but you don't have to be gentle. But then he must be using the same technique for all the cars.
Scratches are bound to happen , honesty i don't believe the brio doesn't have them. Or maybe the paint quality is better , can't say. Take a photograph at night with mobile flash on of both the cars and upload it here.

And if you don't want more scratches on a new car , wil recommend get new car treatment from 3m.

Friends,

Hyundai Motors India is addressing the high waiting period for it's Elite i20 model by increasing the production at their facility. At present the waiting period is around 60 days.

Rakesh Srivastava, senior VP - marketing and sales, Hyundai Motor India, says "The plant is producing (the i20) at full capacity. It will be ramped up by a few more thousand." As of March 16, Hyundai received 468,184 enquiries and 103,960 bookings for the i20. Srivastava says that the car has a waiting period of two-and-a-half months.

Nice move. Unlike other vendors(you-know-who) who are adamant and sticking to long waiting periods, it'be better to ramp up to meet demand. Also, if Hyundai listens customers and add 1.4L petrol, it'll be a lot better and add up some numbers in their already-good-sales-figure.

It depends. If you feel ride is not to your comfort, then go ahead. But make sure you are getting correct spec one.

2. Would you recommend up-sizing the tyres' width to '205'/55/r16 tyres?
I don't.

3. Apart from sun visors, foot mats, 'sparco' antenna, new projector headlights from genome (with 1yr warranty), mud flaps, seat covers, is there any other accessory that this new car warrants?
Nope.

4. Underbody rust protection is a must?
Depends. If you stay near coastal area, it will be better. Otherwise no need.

5. Can I get the alloy wheels that come default from the factory blackened or powder coated to black?
factory blackened.

6. How can I enable the auto door lock function (from Gscan)? Did anyone of you succeed in getting it activated in or around Mumbai/Navi Mumbai/Thane?
No you cant. They at Hyundai disable it, so they can make huge profit [frustration]. I still don't understand whats with Hyundai and auto-door-lock.

8. How's the boot when compared to that of Figo's 295 litres? I know it's 285 litres, but is it as practical to use as was of the Figo? (My previous car was a figo, which turned out to be a lemon)
Since I used them both, I can easily say boot is usable unlike Figo. It is better and keep luggage for weekend trip and shopping. Sorry to hear about your Figo, but we never had any issue with our Figo, except the exorbitant service costs.

9. Is there a learning curve to adapt to the driving dynamics of the i20? Please note from past 5 years I had been driving a ford figo until it was sold off last week. I did take the test drive of elite i20 number of times, but they were too short for me to make any clear judgement
Driving Figo & Xcent(steering similar to i20) back-to-back, I was little bummed with Xcent. But driving in traffic is breeze in Xcent than in Figo. Highways is different league altogether. I prefer Figo over i20 anyday.

10. How would you rate the car on the scale of 1-10?
8

11. Is the steering that bad? Or you get a hang of it as time passes?
You get used to it.

12. Any thing that you'd want me to be cautious about the car?
Yes. GC. Soft Suspension + Low GC equates to frequent scrapping in unbelievable speed breakers. Be cautious with this.

Hi All.

I am planning to buy Elite i20 Sprotz Petrol. have a few questions.
Is anyone here having it already ? Hows the overall performance ? I test drove it and found it to be ok. Want to get owners opinion.

Also is the steering speed sensitive ? Does it get heavy as speed goes up ?

@blood_velocity

I personally don't recommend i20 Petrol if you are frequent highway cruncher. Because it is sluggish and in highways, it tends to lose breath easily. Power-to-Weight ratio is not balanced for Petrol i20. But if you want space and comfort, this is the car to be in.

Steering weights up as speed increases.

@furious_driver

Thanks for the info :)
I wont be doing too many highway trips. Once a month max. It will be primarily be used for city commute. Less then 30 kms per day.
Since i wont be covering a lot of kms on it, i am not interested in buying a diesel.
