Re: DRACO - Mahindra XUV 5OO-W8: Ownership Review

Now finally i can write my experience about XUV since i have been driving it for almost a month now. Our DRACO has 3900 kms on ODO so far and most of them are highway miles and city driving out of which mostly NCR region.

FE: The highest FE that i have acquired as of now is 14.1 kml and it includes 40% city (Delhi/Gurgaon) driving and 60% highway.

Comfort: After driving so many SUV's in US i never felt that i am driving an Indian SUV and yes it is comfortable in the first 2 rows. I never felt that i am short of under thigh support on 1 and 2 row. Also the gap between 1 and 2nd row is LOTTTT which i really liked since one can sit comfortably as they have ample of leg room.
And since second row seat can be reclined it provides more comfort, this is something my parents love about this car. So the combination of reclining seats and the leg space is just wonderful.

2 weeks back we made a trip to merrut and back and my 2 cousins were sitting in the last row and they didn't complain about anything (they should be between 5' 2 - 5'5).
but if you use all the 3 rows then you don't have space for luggage.
So what i think is that if M&M would have reduced the leg space in the second row little bit than the boot space could have been increased.

Engine/Pickup: I am owning mHawk engine for the first tiime and guys i am loving it. It's a diesel engine so you cant expect it to be silent as a petrol one and that turbo whistle on hard acceleration is just amazing.
One of the best things about this car is the pickup. You rev it and it takes no time to become a jet. It will pick up in every gear and you won't have any problem in overtaking a vehicle in front of you.

Gears: Ohh i love the 3 and 5 gear of XUV. City traffic put it in 3rd and it will do the job and if bumper to bumper than 1st and 2nd will take you anywhere.
On highways with traffic 5th gear does the talking and takes care of everything. And once you put 6th DRACO does glide.

But 1st gear feels bit notchy and is kinda hard which should be taken care off at the first service.

Handling/Ride Quality: Handling is very good and after reading so many comments from our fellow members about the handling and ride quality i was bit nervous until i got my hands on the beast.

Talking about handling i did change lanes at 110-120 with 5 people on board and the last seat full of luggage. Will attach a picture. I have done the same thing with just one bag and 2 people on board without any problem. And i have no problem driving DRACO in city traffic-bumper to bumper traffic.

Ride quality is also good but yes you feel few bumps which we are supposed to because of the Stiff suspension in XUV. But in these 3900 kms we drove in almost all kind of roads and i had no complain about the ride quality nor did my parents who sit in the middle row, what more do i want?[:D]

Braking: After reading so many comments and views this was the first thing i checked as i landed in India but to my surprise i never saw a problem with the brakes and YES the brakes do give you a confidence level. They do their part very very well. So can't complain.

Features: Well where do i start from [;)] Not used all of them so far but yes most of them and the navigation works pretty good as well. Love using the steering mounted controls.

Now are there any niggles: YES
The famous grinding noise but it does not effect the braking though. And it just started few days ago. Luckily i was in Faridabad (that's where we took the delivery) and went to same dealer.
The SA recognized my brother came to us and listened very carefully and asked whether we have any other problems as well.
He took the car in and told us that though our XUV is from the Oct batch somehow it has old pads in it. And he also told us that the new batch of brake pads was out in December.
So i told him that i'll get them replaced on first service. The SA did go back and get the brakes checked and bought our XUV out.

Besides that nothing to complain.

So the noise comes till 50 kmph not after that and since it does not hinder the braking ability i don't mind waiting for another 2 weeks.

Using a SUV to its best, there were 4 more bags behind the top row of bags.

Since you have lived in US and driven various cars available there, do you think XUV has any potential if sold in the US,do you think consumers in US will accept this product ?

Thanks buddy for your wishes.

And i had a separate thread for ICE upgrade, here is the link for the same
http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...10874-draco-mahindra-xuv5000-w8-now-iced.html

And on 20th we will be having a small TAI meet in Delhi.

Looking at the price of the vehicle and what it offers, it might hit the sales chart for M&M in the positive direction.
And since XUV is a soft roader and the road conditions in US need not say anything on that.[:)]
But M&M would have to set up a good chain of dealerships for that and ASS should be very good.

But than on the other hand M&M brand is something which most of the Americans are not even aware off, so that might hurt.

I guess most of the auto enthusiast's in US are very much aware of Mahindra but not in a good way though, thanks to the very public spat it had with it's dealer and the case is still running in the courts.

Naa..i don't think so buddy.

5 years and so far i have only met 4-5 people who know TATA more than mahindra. And M&M might be known in other countries though. Ya they know about Suzuki as they have few cars in US. I have seen Kizashi, Vitara and one more car, can't remember the name.

Yes I agree with Inder. M&M in not known in the US or the UK. But head to South Africa or some other African countries and you will find so many people of our clan there [:)]
