Re: DRACO - Mahindra XUV500 W8: Ownership Review (60,000 Kms Achieved)

hey congrats on the milestone. FE is best in class i would say. mine is showing 14.2 regularly. I have one question though-
I have read a lot about the turbo kick that one gets after ~1500 RPM when the turbo starts spooling, In my case i havent felt any such kick as of yet. Also i am not able to hear any turbo hiss . This is my first diesel car and i am not able to make out the turbo noise. I do not have any benchmark to compare it to so cant say if the power delivered is less or no.
So is it possible that the turbo is not spooling?

Thanks buddy and yes FE is definitely best in class. I just made a trip to Jaipur and back from Gurgaon on Monday and FE was displaying 15.5 kml with 100% AC and i was doing constantly 110-130 kmph.

Now talking about the turbo kick it's not like you will get rocket kind of feeling but you definitely get much better acceleration after you cross 1500 rpm. Secondly it depends what speed are you doing at what gear. I mean if you are at low speed and high gear then definitely it takes extra time. Right gear at right speed is the key.
I usually change 3 and 4 gear at 1500-1800 rpm and 5&6 at 2000 rpms.

The turbo hiss is very very low sound and you can only make out the sound if you know what it sounds like. I had diesel Octavia and the turbo whistle was clearly audible in it but it's not the case with my XUV.

Re: DRACO - Mahindra XUV500 W8: Ownership Review (60,000 Kms Achieved)

Hi Guys,
I am new to this thread and would like to some advises from you all, I have recently bought new age XUV5OO and it's been 1.5 month and I am seriously enjoying the ride.
I see few posts talking about the upgrading the tyre for XUV500, I got my XUV tyre upgraded to 255/60/R17 with Pirelli Scorpion verde and so far I am enjoying the ride and it is very smooth without any noise.
Also, anyone can guide me about HIDs, is it ok to put 55W 6000K HID in projector ?
Thanks.

Welcome and congratulations for your new ride.

If you are running on JK tires than it is probably suggested by people that you change them. And it reduces the tire noise and improves the ride quality. And that's a nice set of shoes you opted for.
Now talking about HID, I am planning to upgrade too. Go for the 4300K HID and you will be amazed by the result. It works very well under wet road situations as well. Anything over 4300K, it starts getting blue and the visibility under street lights and wet roads starts diminishing .Go for P8 (4300K) HID. You may easily get it in NCR and if you don't then let me know. [:)]

Thanks singh890, I am planning to go with 55W 6000K HID in projector for low beam and OSRAM night breakers unlimited (H7 bulb) for High beam. I think that would suffice the purpose.
Also, in the new age XUV, the S shaped LED tube gives the color of closely to 6000 or 8000K, so when you put HID it will match up IMO.

Also to share, I have not received more than 9 FE till date( as per infotainment) and driven around 1100 so far but actually I think I am getting 10.5 something.
any advice, if we should put normal Diesel or premium one.

I have seen the LED light shade for the new XUV and that's why i am saying 4300K will suffice with it. And if you go for 6000K the light throw will be kind of bluish - Not exactly blue and the best light throw is 4300K. You can see bhvm XUV thread for the LED and HID stuff.

It's a new vehicle and generally the FE is low for brand new vehicles. Let it go through First service and the FE will increase.

Dear adesh,
I hope this thread will clear all your doubts-
http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...-hid-kit-technical-review-install-w-pics.html

Also, 6000k will generate more glare compared to 4300k, and have an overall poorer output.
Don't worry about matching Light guides, They're not visible from far once your HID starts up!

Also, Stay away from 55w, as Higher power & More UV will slowly burn the lenses/Chrome.

Singh890, Pardon for Encroaching your thread.

Re: DRACO - Mahindra XUV500 W8: Ownership Review (60,000 Kms Achieved)

Hi BHVM,
Thanks for your suggestion, wonderful thread. You explained each bit of it.
Is there possibility of not fitting the HID bulb properly in the Projector, as when I get the demo from my local accessories shop, I can see the beam from my driver side projector but from the passenger side the beam was not coming in the same way. So I raised this question to the mechanic and he did some adjustments and said the bulb was not put correctly. So is it possible if HID bulb is not inserted correctly it can lead to wrong beam throw and glare too ?

Secondly, when I took the test drive , I don't know whether you have noticed this, I saw two black shades parallel in middle while light is on. I checked the projector lamp very closely and noticed that there are two small marks or groves (parallel) on top side in both projectors and probably that is why the black image is visible.

Thirdly, I was told that for XUV we need different set of HID, the one which comes with Relay attached to the ballast, the one only with ballast will not work and it might lead to wheezing sound and flickering, is that true also ?

Thanks BHVM, I am sorry can I know your name please. I will continue by discussion in the given thread now. Hi Dheeraj, I checked the old XUV ( I think it is 2015 make but older one), it doesn't have that groove. It is there in my office, I will click the picture of that as well. I think Mahindra did some changes in 2015 model.
