Re: DRACO - Mahindra XUV 5OO-W8: Ownership Review

Hey guys a quick question, today I saw a crack in my windshield.

So I want to know whether the Insurance companies cover this (I have zero dep insurance).

If not what is the best and cheapest way to get the windshield changed? I don't mind going to the dealership for the same, just want to see what options do I have.[cry]

Try and find the price of the same in the market and a.s.s first . Don't use the insurance policy if its cheap because then next year the insurance premiuim won't be less .

I am not sure if this is available in India or not, but there are some people who would just put filling in your glass crack, make it similar to what it was before crack. Just look out for this option as well. And yes if the total cost is less than your NCB don't go for insurance claim.

How did it happen?
If there isn't any visible impact point on the glass, you should try to get it replaced free of cost claiming it a manufacturing defect. You need to take it to the authorised dealer first,IMO.
BTW, do you have any picture ?

@singh890

I also read elsewhere that you could get your windshield replaced by windshieldexperts at your home. You could probably get it done at around 6-7k .Please do call them first to confirm it.

You could also file an insurance claim. But I thought there would a standard deductible amount and you would probably lose the NCB - no claim bonus as well.

Well, I think I can answer this query. Well, you can open my Corolla thread and you will come to know that leave for the interiors almost everything has been changed in insurance :stupid:
In other words, it will be replaced if the insurance is zero dep. At least whatever I broke may it be bumper, headlamp, tail lamp, ORVM, windshield, fog lamps, doors, windows, boot lid or rear windshield all were replaced in insurance. Thanks to God since last 4 months the car has visited A.S.S. just once and that also for servicing.[;)]

Hi Singh, looks like an unfortunate incident.
I would advice you to get it done at A.S.S.
As along with the glass sensor of auto headlamp, rain sensor of wiiper is embedded to the glass.
As this is 1st year of ownership. You will get upto 90% I hope so.
Make sure there are no leakages after glass replacement.
And I would advice you to stay with the vehicle when job is done.
So that interiors are not spoiled.

Pardon for typos as I am typing on phone.

Hi Raja, I have seen on one Scorpio during service visit, the sensor is attached to the glass.

The Rain light sensor is a combined sensor behind the inside central rear view mirror.

In case of break in windshield the old sensor cannot be recaliberated, with new windshield.

That in case of XUV too is same.

Re: DRACO - Mahindra XUV 5OO-W8: Ownership Review

Thanks guys for your valuable inputs. Since I am at my friends resort in Jim Corbett and his resort is in middle of the jungle, i am facing network problems or I should say No Network :-). Getting low network currently so let me reply quickly:

Try and find the price of the same in the market and a.s.s first . Don't use the insurance policy if its cheap because then next year the insurance premiuim won't be less .
I called the A.S.S and they gave me a price quote of 16-17K. Called up 2-3 dealers in the city but they said that 'Saarryy Saar we don't have XUV windshield as it has lot of sensor in it'.
And after that i realized that it has sensors on the windshield so going to A.s.s will be a good option.

I am not sure if this is available in India or not, but there are some people who would just put filling in your glass crack, make it similar to what it was before crack. Just look out for this option as well. And yes if the total cost is less than your NCB don't go for insurance claim.
Actually I couldn't get a quote so far from aftermarket. I called up one of my cousin in Delhi and told him to get a quote but now I am planning to get it replaced from the A.S.S itself looking at the amount of sensors connected to it.

And about repairing the windshield, I have seen that stuff back in US. Those people can only fix certain types of damages and of they are small. Mine is quite big ;-). And it's not repairable.

What they basically do is, if there is small crack, line etc they fill in some kind of a chemical in that particular area which makes that particular area
Strong and small cracks (line) may even disappear.

How did it happen?

How it happened, have no clue because last Saturday I drove from Delhi back to my home (170 km) and parked the carin garage, till then there was nothing. Yesterday I had to go to one of my friends resort in Jim Corbett so took my car out of the garage and came to know about it. Maybe something hit my windshield in my last trip but then I am like why didn't the crack showed up at that particular point of time?

Will post the pictures once I come out of the jungle as I am hardly getting any network since my friends resort is almost 6 Kms in the jungle from the main road :-). I am trying to make this post from last night.

Yes windshield experts were the one I was talking about. They repair your cracked glass
Explained above.

That's what I will do, get it changed from the A.S.S itself and claim insurance. Not confident whether an aftermarket dealer will be able to do a good job of not keeping in mind the sensors attached to the windshield and their recalibration.
