Re: DRACO - Mahindra XUV 5OO-W8: Ownership Review

DRACO (XUV) completed 1 year with us last week and the journey so far has been really great, wonderful and top of all niggle free. The ODO stands at 22029 Kms as of now.

Over the last 8 months I have driven this vehicle extensively and in different kind of terrains and roads, no roads, village roads full of mud slush, water and what not.

This includes smooth highway trips on NH 8 where DRACO just glided[drive] like anything with 6 people and 7-8 bags plus lot of loose stuff. And was able to do 170-180 kmph (I know its not safe but was just trying to see the limit hence not promoting high speed driving) otherwise kept it around 120 - 130 and the FE I got was around 14.7 - 15 kmpl. I could easily cut lanes and the braking always gave me that confidence to drive hard. Very Stable and amazing handling.

One of the best trips was to RamNagar (Jim Corbett Forest). One of my friend has a Resort there and his resort is all the way into the Jungle, One has to literally drive 6-7 kms into jungle, cross 2 decent size river and 1 small river. And that 6-7 km patch is so narrow that only one car can pass at a time through big bushes and made by JCB’s so it means water, stones, bumps, slush and what not. And XUV crossed all of that. Those 2 rivers had water which was almost flowing over the tire. Until this day I used to think that XUV can be only used as a soft roader but this trip changed my view about this vehicle. After taking so much of abuse XUV is still running great.

I know technically it’s a Crossover but it has been serving us as a proper SUV. Doing everything for us what a SUV would do.

Now coming to the 20K service update:

Issues Reported:
1. Reverse Sensor beeping as soon as reverse gear is engaged. This was due to the wrong position of the rear guard. Adjusted the guard and problem solved.
2. Left exhaust shaking. So the culprit for this was the tractor guy when my XUV was stuck. That Stupid guy hooked the rope on the silencer[gun] So a rubber got loose. They changed it and issue resolved.
3. Car going towards left Wheel Alignment done and issue resolved.
4. right windshield washer throwing less water Adjusted the angle of the washer vollaa.
5. Occasional squeaking from the instrument cluster. something to do with padding. Now resolved.

Oil Filter: 229.83/-
Fuel Filter: 1317.13/-
Air Filter: 786.74/-
Engine Oil: 255.47 + 1277.35/-
EngineCare XUV 500: 642.65/-
Few Consumable: 35.36/-
Wheel Alignment: 550/-

Total: 5759/- (Inclusive of all taxes)

Other Things done:
1. Tire Rotation

Likes:
1. Comfortable seats which make long trips easy and untiring.
2. Never ending feature list which comes in handy and very convenient.
3. Amazing stability and handling at high speeds and in city. The cornering ability of the vehicle.
4. Ample space in first and second row. And third row can be very well used for long trips.
5. Braking ability of the vehicle, gives you immense confidence.
6. The torque, ahh love that. And it never feels like it’s out of juice when accelerating.
7. And after my Ramnagar trip the off roading ability of the vehicle. Now don’t imagine the 4*4 off roading stuff.
Things I don’t like:
1. When all rows are up you don’t have space for luggage.
2. Undulations and potholes are felt inside due to the stiffer suspension.
3. Third row not a good place for 6 footers on a long trip. Locally (Adjust kar le[glasses]).

So overall I am really happy with my XUV unlike few other people who had to suffer the initial niggles. Money well invested.

Congrats Singh on completing 1 year, and 22K+ kms on ODO.

That pic looks like a white panther, ready to attack on prey.

Very well written report along with cost of maintenance.

You have maintained it well.[thumbsup]

Congrats singh for the 1 year birthday. Draco has completed quite many miles in one year. Wishing you many more miles.

Can you give me the details of the resort? Planning for a uttarakhand drive somewhere in 2014.

Thanks buddy. Actually most of the miles came in last 9 months , almost 21K.

If you are looking to experience the Jim Corbett and some nice jungle safari (if lucky get a chance to see the rulers of the Jungle, Tigers). The best time is from End of November till March - April.

Here's the hotel link: Clarks Inn Hotels India, Hotel, Restaurant Hotel

And i will pm you my friend details when you need them.

Congrats singh890 on your Cheetah's first birthday. Nice update on completion of an year with the beast. 22k kms in an year is pretty decent running. And the fuel efficiency figures you've posted are quite amazing for a car of its size. My cousin's XUV is also about an year old too and is running absolutely niggle free but the mileage he's been getting is in the region of about 10kmpl. That's the only complaining point from him about the car. Rest even I've driven it extensively and the car is an absolute delight to drive. Nice to see the service charges are pretty nominal too from Mahindra. Won't put a whole in the pocket in the long run.

Wishing you many many more niggle-free miles and smiles with your XUV. Drive safe.[drive]

Thanks buddy for your wishes.

Does your cousin drive a lot in city. Because even our FE is low when driven in Delhi city traffic. But still it remains around 12 kmpl. So far i only remember 2-3 times when the FE was under 11. One time it was around 9 kmpl[:)].

Yes he drives within the city only mostly, but its not like bumper to bumper traffic here in Chandigarh, its more free flowing. On highways, he gets about 12-13kmpl at the max. Maybe it can be due to the driving style which causes a drop in fuel efficiency.

Re: DRACO - Mahindra XUV 5OO-W8: Ownership Review

Since DRACO has completed one year i am planning to gift something to him.

Probably HID bulbs will be replacing the stock fog lamp bulbs.

Don't want to change the stock low beam to HID because it will be a nightmare to drive in dense fog which is commom here.

Yes a lot depends on driving style also.

Members here have got 15 kmpl also on highways.

But this is something i like about XUV. Looking at the size of the vehicle it gives a decent mileage.

Instead of upgrading the existing fog lamps to HID I would suggest to go for proper aux lamps with 3000K HID. they would be much more useful in the dense fogs rather than the stock fogs. the throw of the stock fogs is pathetic.

As far as mileage is concerned I am getting 16-17 on highways with AC. In my recent trip to Mumbai I also saw a total range of 1001km on a full tank. more than 900 on the trip meter and more than 100 on the Distance to Empty screen. i have taken a couple of pics as well. Will upload as soon as I get the time.

Hella good ones start at 3-4k for a pair and goes uptill 20k for Xenon ones.

but for everyday use chk out Hella Comet 500. costs around 5-6k for a pair.

the major difference is the beam pattern.
the stock fog lamps are more dispersive in nature. Infact they disperse so much I cant even tell if they are working or not. The AUX lamps comes in variety of patterns majorly fog, driving, pencil and flood.
at the same time the white colored HID is useless in Fog or rain conditions.

Allrighty.

Thanks for the info mate.

So the AUX lamps which are fog lamp pattern, what color is the light throw?
And i am guessing it's just a bulb or is it like a whole new setup?

Ahh got it.

That is something I don't want[frustration].

And since I drive a lot in Delhi. COPS may stop you for that since those lights are not allowed in Delhi, if I am not wrong.

Secondly it will ruin the front look of the car.

So HID bulbs come into picture again.

oh ok.

in that case go for golden yellow HIDs instead of the clear white or blue ones. color spec 3000K. blue and white ones dont help in the fog.
