Hi bhvm,
Nice to see that your issue withe the CD not playing is resolved. But such niggles seem to be a part and parcel of the ownership of the beast.[frustration] I had hope that when compared to Tata atleast Mahindra would have done better but I was wrong. Now I am thinking of other alternatives before I book the W8.

there aren't much better alternates until you atleast double your budget.
afraid to report, the new hu is physically noisy. I guess it's the fan inside the unit. much louder than my original hu. :-(

New HU is noisy? Fan noise is continuous or intermittent. ?
Hope nippon guys resolves this ASAP.

it's continuous rubbing sound. I'm not travelling all the way for this issue alone. perhaps at next service.
old hu had a high pitch fan noise. now feels as if fan is slowing down due to something rubbing against it or bearing friction. both were irritating.

however new hu has a MUCH better sound output. esp bass. and amplifier buzzing is gone.

p.s after 500km night drive, I'm seriously thinking to add HID IN factory fogs.

Hi BHVM,

I dont think HIDs in fogs would be of much use to night highway driving. as the beam pattern is fog in fog lamps which disperses the light what you want is a driving beam pattern which is available in low/high and aux beams so either you go for HIDs in low beams or 100W halogens in High beams or both.

I am planning to upgrade my high beam bulbs to 100W Nightbreaker or crystal vision. Any ideas if they are plug and play or will I need ceramic holders for them?

thanks for dropping in,
100w bulbs will need a ceramic holder and also relay and wiring harness. also they would boil the chrome of your reflectors in a couple of years. not recommended. rather go for hella aux lamps are set their relay trigger with high beams (used that on my safari )

else,
the fog lamp pattern seems a mix of high and low beams. it has low beam cutoff but lot of spill in every direction. current lamps are 1400 lumen total. 55w HID will be 8000 lumens total!!
factory high beams are fantastic as is. problem is when I need to dip the beams for oncoming truck or bus. the glare makes very difficult to view speed breakers or dumps at all. infact I badly landed in some craters due to above. so what I'll be upgrading are lamps that stay on during passing vehicle and have glare shields. (that means low beams or fogs )

I understand it's better to upgrade main beams. however 500 's headlamps are very complicated and I counted atleast 12 wires going in. they're all into various automated systems. they're also expensive if we mess up somehow. fog lamps are simple 2 wire connection.

I still want to see beam shots of hid fogs if possible tough.

btw what are your views on ready led headlamps available at www.blazenbright.com

in this case i think an HID in low beam is better. and no need to worry about the wiring the low beam bulb is also a 2 wire connection.

Re: “Thunderbolt” XUV 5OO Detailed Review (Decals, Audio, LED, Mods++)

After my first night drive from Bangalore to Salem, I decided this vehicle definitely needs headlight upgrade. I have upgraded to 55w HID on low beam and also on the fog lamps. Now the dark spot of initial few feet is gone [clap].

For the high beam, I wanted to upgrade to 100w but the shop where I installed said only 80w H7 bulbs are available. Again unfortunately he was unable to replace the bulbs and ceramic holders as he was unable to put his hand inside and work on it [frustration]. I was short of time to get all the things opened and installed. So kept it pending for next time.

Has anyone installed power window up module (relay) which will roll up the windows when we lock the vehicle ?

that's some interesting upgrade!
Can you put some beamshots regarding separate fog and low beam hids!

yes you have to remove the Battery even to change bulbs. very cramped layout.

Sure I will post them soon.

Honestly just upgrading fog lamps are useless. I first felt I wasted money on HID for fog but then with low beam n fog I felt the difference big time.
