Talked With Mr Ashutosh, Who is looking west zone service, The following points were Discussed-

1> Turbocharger will be fixed today itself.
2> A test drive of atleast 50k will be taken after install to thoroughly check turbo.
3> Vehicle will be delivered to my home by them.
4> A technical team will be arranged from Bombay to throughly check the vehicle in a week or so. Perhaps at Nashik or dhule service.

I will sure ask a written report that vehicle is fine and will not give repeated problems.

Refer to Bold part buddy, I am sure you mean "50Kms"[:)] Good to know that work is being carried out at some pace now. Do update once you get the car delivered.

Yes. it does mean FIFTY kilometers.

About 20~25Km will be today, rest will be tomorrow.
They'll also deliver the vehicle to my house. I will be requesting that vehicle be accompanied by senior engineer who can keep tab on turbo & engine health during return Journey.

P.s- They're saying Check Engine lamp has vanished. I have requested them to check at speeds of 120 KMPH++.

Re: “Thunderbolt” Mahindra XUV5OO Detailed Review (3 Years Report)

So.
After a long struggle, The beast came back to my Porch. Here is my experience with this Mess, Point wise.

1> Final Diagnostic is that Turbo Boost pressure was too high. Normal Boost pressure is usually in the range of 1.1, But this happy chap was putting out 1.3. This is a strange case because Turbos usually loose pressure when there is a problem. Here it was overboosting.

2> The next step was to replace the Modulator. A Modulator is 3 plug electrical component that actuates the VGT Vanes (Hence boost). XUV uses electrical Actuator compared to Cable driven or Hydraulic in Some vehicles.
The Check error returned at 140 even with new Modulator, So my old Modulator was placed back and Order was logged for New Turbo. Turbo took about a week to arrive.

3> In the term of 5 years (XUV was launched in '11), The Service center- Aakash Motors Dhule said this was only the 2nd turbo failure reported. Mahindra Turbos usually last 2~2.5 Lac Kms. They are only replaced when engine is reworked. Bolero Turbos usually last longest due to Low Rev- High Torque nature of the engine. There are been absolutely zero turbo failures reported in Bolero.

The 1st turbo failure case they had was due to a lady driver who drove her vehicle despite leaked Turbo Pipe (visually demonstrated by Heavy smoking and loss of performance).

So overall, this could be an oddball, One off case regarding Blown Turbo.

4> Mysteriously, They did not find anything wrong with the turbo on Physical inspection.
The Turbo was not starved of oil
There is no Play in bearings
There is no Deformity in Impeller.
I do follow idling procedure at crank & Shut down.
Vehicle is Mostly driven by Dad who hesitates to cross 90 KMPH.

The Old turbo has been sent to R&D center for dismantling & Inspection.

5> The test drive was carried in below manner-
50KMs-upto 130 KMPH
50KMs-Upto 165 KMPH
25KM- Dhule city.
Dhule to my House- 70Kms
With me- 10Kms

Overall, thats over 200KM of testing carried. Very thorough indeed. They sent (on my request) the technical manager along with the vehicle to my door step to keep tab on turbo & also explain me the diagnostic process.

They filled some diesel on the return journey as courtesy. Which was a nice gesture indeed.[embarass]

6> The last service was carried at Nashik at some 60k Kms. Odo Now reads 60,900 KM.

7> The vehicle was delivered Scratch-less, Clean & neat- As I always like to be. I should really appreciate Mahindra on That. Nothing else was touched or messed up. My HU settings were not changed. Even small bits like paper, toll receipts, Cleaning cloth were in default place- Untouched. Thats a great thing!

They gave a courtesy Interior & Exterior cleaning before dispatch.

8> After the initial rest drive upto 125KMPH, The performance has returned. Its finally great to feel the beast alive again![evil]

Hello bhvm

I had been following your thread since this turbo issue arised and it is good to hear that it is finally resolved to your satisfaction. Now that the beast is back on track, enjoy it to the core!

I have nothing but good words for Mahindra. Their response time, though slightly long, was expected because turbo is a comparatively expensive and complicated part and hurrying things wouldn't haave helped. Also the way they have showed genuine interest in your problem and rectified the issue completely, testing for close to 200 kms, at their fuel cost, without any other damage to the car says a lot. A big thumbs up for Mahindra. You know I had written somewhere that my next car would be XUV500 W10, and safe to say, this thread is very reassuring for me.

Regards,
Alpha

Hello alpha,
Thanks for the kind words.
Yes Mahindra service is really top notch. The do go the extra mile that not even big Germans or japs would offer. It's just that some patchy quality control or inferior parts that has messed with the reliablity. And an enthusiast's car suffering 6-7 varied failures does raise a brow.

I hope once they've got the parts figured out. Nothing beats em.

About the enjoyment yes, I'm still in the car enjoying Music since 1.5 hours.IInfact ,I've composed thank you notes for the staff sitting here that I'll mail them tomorrow.

Yes,
And that's not all.

At my next service perhaps at Nashik, They'll be sending some expert team from Nashik manufacturing plant to Check the vehicle Ground up for these repeated failures.[clap]
Finally a Car-lover's car is being treated in an lovely manner.[:)]

I'm very happy and releaved that it ended up in a peaceful way. Congratulations bhvm. Because of obvious reasons I am happy for you and I am happy for your xuv. One thing is clear that mahindra service is better than maruti. It is my experience at least. I own 2 maruti cars.
