Which New Tyres For Tata Manza ?

@Gurrala , xm 1 is neighther available with 185\60/R 15 nor with 195 \60 R 15.?

Which turanza it was ER 300? , with 195/60 or 185/60 ?

One dealer in Pune have Turanza 300 ER with 185/60 R 15 specs @4700 INR.It is Mar 13 manufactured.

I have checked 2 times there is no XM1 & XM1+ in 195/60/15 size
only option in Michelin is this one which is old technology

So the choice is now simple think why do we up size if it gives more benefits then only go for Michelin/PRIMACY-LC else stick to stock size

Upsizing also gives benefit of marginal rise in GC which is plus a plus point for me but not compulsory.

While stock sized (turanza ER 300 ) would not void extended warranty which is a plus point.

It is the' relative side wall cut resistance' which is going to influence the decision now. By natural justice it is the stock size which would be more ' sidewall cut resistant' as compared to the immediate upsize. But sidewall cut resistance is not the only criterion . So Gurus please help me .out.
AFA michelin are concerned it is the xm2 which is advertised as 'side wall cut resistant tires but the 195 /65 size is not that ideal for manza's rim width . Also I fear the side wall would buldge more than 195/60 leading to inner sidewall touching the wheel hub , also the extra buldge would nullify the advantage of ' sidewall cut resistance' of xm2.

I just spoke to the shop and they say the following

1. BS Turanza, ER 60, 195/60/R15 - Rs.5500
Potenza, RE 88, 195/60/R15 - Rs.5500 - preferred tyre
2. Michelin, PLC , 195/60/R15 - Rs.5850/- soft rubber

Yesterday I met a tyre dealer who stock every brand who is completely unbiased towards a brand. So for Manza he suggested two things
2. If you just want super grip, low tyre noise and ride comfort, then please go with Michelin XM

So now decision is left you Sir

On michelin website Xm2 is available in 185/65 R 15. size. Just confirm if he was talking about the same.

@ Jarpickle, I have deleted PLC/Ecopia due to the softness . Also Turanza , I have used it in my previous car and found it no better than B 250. Hence deleted it too.

I want your help to decide between potenza 195/60 vs Xm2 185 /65 R 15 .One advantage associated with 185/65 xm2 is that the ideal recommended rim size is 5.5 . For 190 /60 recommended rim size is 6 .
5.5 is stock manza rim .

Total diameter of the potenza 195 /60 R 15 would be 615mm.whilst for xm2 185 /65 R 15 would be 621 mm.
Stock B 250 , it is 603mm.
So total height increment for potenza 195/60 is 12mm and GC would improve{virtual)by 6mm.
For xm2 185/65 , the height would increase by 18 mm and GC would improve by(virtual)9 mm.

Quote for xm2 185 /65 is Rs 5000 WAWB extra , but many dealers are short of stock and it would be available by 1st week of july. One dealer is asking for Rs 5200 for readily available stock WAWB extra.



Will the xm2 side wall buldge too much?

Yes the sidewall height will increase, I have that size tire on our Ertiga and the flex is noticeable on the steering,especially when turning.The increased sidewall height of the XM2 will help increase your mileage though.

The Turanza ER300 is way better than the B250, even the ER60 is better than the B250.
Turanza ER300 in the size you want comes factory fitted on the Corolla Altis.

Back to the question about the tire fitting, atleast Michelin thinks the 195/60R15 will fit on the 5.5inch rim.It is listed as the minimum rim width for the 195/60R15 PLC tire.

Try a test fit of the Potenza Re88 on your rim and check.

I went for tyre rotation but due to rain that time there was a Que so I had to cancel the plan but I went to 2 dealers both were dealing with multi brand

Xm2 185 /65 R 15 was recommended costing 4700/- the best but both confirmed that its life will not be more than 30-35000 kms it will fit on manza rims & will give GC benefit without much problem, ride quality will be the best & huge sound reduction while driving.

If we want durability & more long lasting both of them suggested Goodyear Duraplus costing 4200/- which is 185/60/15 & comes with 1lakh kms (2+3yrs) warranty, I have never heard about such a tyre claim but they say the rubber on this is long lasting.

Bridgestone 250 & 300 are available for 4400/- one is stock size another is upsize.

So the choice is now simple upsize get better rid equality but get less life of xm2 or stick to stock BS tyre & get more life out of that at the cost of bit harder ride quality.

@jp,Ertiga has stock 185/65/R 15? Do you feel the flex exposes the tire for sidewall cut ?

And the flex must be occuring nearly the contact patch only and possibilities of tyre inner wall getting rubbed with the wheel hub should be less .IMO

The flex is bad for handling at higher speeds.

Nothing gets rubbed on the innerwall.I have 145/80R12 on the 800 and there is no rubbing there.

The taller sidewall only causes hanging issues at high speeds.You can feel the tires flex when you turn.

The Ertiga has body roll since it is a bigger vehicle at full load you cannot feel the flex.I feel it on the 800 because it doesn't have PS and you can feel the road better.

If you want great handling at high speeds go for 195/60 R15 section.If you want good ride comfort and better mileage go for 185/65 R15.

If you are worried about sidewall cuts then go with Bridgestone or MRF.

Can you give more details how handling improves at higher speed with 195/60/15 since I do 95% daily driving on expressway speeds 110-130kmph I am keen to understand this advantage. Will this give lesser mileage due to upsizing?

When you increase the section width you will get better handling because the contact patch size increases,the lower sidewall means there won't be excessive flex.If you want even better performance but not so good ride quality then lower the sidewall height as much as you can.Just check your rim width.According the Michelin website, 5.5J is the minimum requirement for 195 section tires.

This is the reason why all performance cars like Audi's,BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari's etc will have as low sidewall height and wide section width.

Wider tires need more force to move, hence your mileage will go down a little.

For high speed driving check the speed rating of the tires.T rated tires are rated to max speed of 190kmph, this does not mean you can constantly run at that speed.The max speed speed is sustained for a couple of minutes to a couple of seconds depending on the condition of the tire.If your car is capable of sustaining 190kmph then you need to get tires that can sustain that speed i.e. upwards of H rated tires.

In which range of speed?
I have to do cornering @60 kmph to 80 kmph in Ghats sometimes.

Also , which is better for overtaking manuvour on highways ? On highway s I prefer to drive @90 to 110 kmph and rarely go above 120.
