Re: A German Dream Pre-owned VW Polo TDi

Great mods done on your Polo Sandykudva.[clap] The black roof is looking really nice. Is it a vinyl wrap or a paint? And from the pics it seems to be of Matt black finish rather than the glossy one, Is it so?

The work done on the front and back lamps too looks pretty neat. Can you elaborate what exactly has been done to the front headlamps?

Re: A German Dream Pre-owned VW Polo TDi

@ GM88: Thanks for the Appreciation Buddy. The Black roof is a Vinyl Wrap and not paint. Its a Carbon Fibre finish vinyl, it is not too dull and not too bright.

About the headlamps its just a tryout. Actually i was looking for a headlamp with Projectors,BMW rings and DRL but it was too expensive and there was no warranty for the same. Then there were people ready to install Projectors and DRL's to my stock headlamp assembly which was half the price of the new head lamp assembly but again the same problem of no warranty. Now spending so much and not getting any warranty was not worth taking the risk hence i dropped the idea. When i was getting the vinyl work done a wild idea struck me to apply black film on the headlamps and give it a bit smoked effect. So i asked the fitter to do the same but i did not want a dark shade on the headlamp so i went for a very light black one and on the tail lamp i applied the medium dark black. It was a very difficult task to do, it might appear easy but its not. A vinyl can stick on to any surface but a film requires a very flat or plain surface. If there is even a slight bend or curve it will cause an air bubble out there. So after a lot of hard work the film has been applied on both the head lamp and tail lamp. The head lamp has got a perfect finish due to plain surface but the tail lamp has still got a bit of bubbles. It seems that a imported soft film is available which can bend on surfaces without causing bubbles so once that comes will get the perfect job done.

There were options of smoke sprays available but i stuck to the film as if when i sell the vehicle the person ahead has the option of having the car in stock form hence the vinyl wrap was also chosen over the paint.

Re: A German Dream Pre-owned VW Polo TDi

@ anshuman8 : Unfortunately i do not have the pictures of how the setup was done. This being due to my 6 days working schedule. I gave the headlamps to the shop on saturday evening and got the headlamps fitted on monday evening that too when i was in the office. So i just know the start and the end but dont have the in between steps.

The setup includes the following

1) Bi-Xenon headlamps with Double rings
2) Bendable LED Strip
3) HID bulbs- 6000 k ( Pure white )
4) LED parking bulbs
5) Headlamp Smoking.

Re: A German Dream Pre-owned VW Polo TDi

@ Music_Swift : Thanks for the appreciation bro. Yes the car has become a head turner in and around my area and specially my colony. The looks are killer at night. Infact even people drivng the Audi and BMW turn their heads to see it.

One of my major changes complete. Now waiting for a new set of alloys but have to wait untill my old set is knocked off. The designs are good but those are in silver and i am looking for something in dark blackish or greyish shade. And secondly a music system upgrade, trying for a RCD 320 or RCD 510 as mine is with only a CD player.

After these 2 changes. The list will be complete.

Great work done Sandykudva. Those headlamps are looking absolutely smashing. How is the throw from the HID bulbs? And have you changed the fog lamps to white bulbs as well?

Re: A German Dream Pre-owned VW Polo TDi

@ GM88 : Thanks for the appreciation bro. The throw of the HID is really nice a lot better than the stock. These are the 35W 6000k ( Pure White) HID. The guy had asked me whether my running is on the highways but as i said majorly in cities he told me 6000k was fine if there was a bit of highway travels then he had suggested the 4300k as its the best one suitable for highway. About the fog lamps i did not replace them as of now bit will be doing it in the future.

Below is the image of the HID. The distance of the car from the wall is about 35-40 feet.

@ VipinLJ : Thanks for the appreciation bro. Yes as you said the next very thing on my list is the Alloys. But it is stuck because i have a set of alloys spare good in design but hyper silver in colour want to knock those off and then upgrade this with the cash that i get. The Alloy shop is offering me peanuts for that in exchange hence trying outside. Even thought of colouring it but then i dont know how the finish will look.

i want something like these.

1) The Most Desired but diff to find

cades_bern_black_alloy_wheel.jpg

2) The next option

2530.jpg

3) If i dont find the above 2 the maybe this one but atleast hope on finding the second one.

Dear Sandykudva
I really enjoyed while looking at your VW Polo. It’s stunning, really!
Where did you do roof wrapping? 3M or others? How much you spent for that?
All the very best to you for your forth coming modifications.

Re: A German Dream Pre-owned VW Polo TDi

@ Dr MUDHAN : Nice to Know that you enjoyed looking at my polo. Ofcourse i dont do as much research as you but just a little. have a lot to learn from you.

About the roof wrap i have installed the carbon fibre vinyl.

3D-Carbon-Fiber-Vinyl-Wraping.jpg

Before putting this one i did enquire at few places including 3M. 3M was the costliest and the one i put was a decent one. i did not find any difference in the quality of sticker used by 3M and the one that i have installed.

3M gave me a quote of 11.5 k and i got it done for 2.3 K from my guy. There were quiet a few types available but opted for this. in fact if i would have installed the dull black it would have been done for 1.5 K.

The only drawback is that the dust settled on the car is now very easily visible on the roof.
Other than that i did not find any problem with it. There might be some difference in the quality of 3M and this which was not visible to my naked eye but still i felt that in that amount i can change the top of the vehicle 4 times at the interval of 6 months in case if there is fade in colour. Even 3M was giving a warranty of 6 months only.
