Re: Upgraded Volkswagen Polo Coming. Possibly with 1.6 TDi?

Raja, You may be right when if it is only profit making strategy !!

But I am damn sure, if some body want to built their brand across the country, then it is with penetration into the masses

I do not like always hearing to this localisation of spare parts, it is the respective companies head ache, if they are not doing that then they are expensive, so they need to decide on this quickly if they want to penetrate, make a feeling to the people that yes they are near to them and cheaper to them. I differ on one thing, if parts are imported then their quality is good and if they are made here it is not good. I worked in a European company opened their manufacturing plant in India with us and manufacturing quality everything goes same where they used to be exported back to Europe from India and other Asian countries, so it is the quality policy like TUV was in place in Indian manufacturing setup where parts are manufactured just like in Germany but with lesser price which is Indian country advantage that is the reason they have taken a decision to put a manufacturing plant in India !!

Your are comparing with VW with Maruti or TATA yes the quality attitude is completely different, but compare VW with some other European manufacturer like Fiat, you will find the quality of the product is same either it is manufactured in India or else where because it is their product making or quality attitude which delivers such product !! and it is nothing to do with sales strategy it is completely a different ball game

Re: Upgraded Volkswagen Polo Coming. Possibly with 1.6 TDi?

Btw what is the price of highline polo and top model i20 crdi ?
I am not sure of the actual prices . But according to cardekho it would be 7.44 lakhs and 6.94 lakhs for I20 and Polo respectively. Anyday if I am to choose between the two my pick would be the Polo because I simple love the robustness and the built quality of Polo.

YES, VW is a premium brand but remember across the world or to be precise in Europe, so if you want to be a mass hit in India then you have to competitive which is always a price sensitive market. I have a fair experience of much bigger cars of VW,BMW & Audi during my stay in Europe and yes their built quality and others are top notch but that premium pricing will be very normal in Europe, but not in India. In India either it is a premium brand or normal brand people want it for 100 rupees and start asking you " how much it gives"[:)]. So if it got premium pricing then you will have that premium loving customers, but it will never be a mass hit like Maruti's, TATA's & Mahindra's[clap]. Today everybody buy only branded things in India but at a discounted prices and in a place like "Brand Factory"
For those category of people who wants value for money 1.2 TDI that currently does the duty on Polo would be the best considering the price point of view. But there must also be some variant for the category of people who are ready to pay more and get something that can compete with the Punto 90HP. The price may be high but if there if VW India can offer 1.6L petrol there must have been some powerful diesel mill too[:)]
Moreover the capabilities of VW Polo deserves a better engine ,while talking from the point of view of an enthusiast and not a customer out in the market for a purchase.

No, it doesn't stand to do its duty where others do that duty properly with a 4-cylinder engines, then why to go for a 3-cylinder baby with a higher price just because it is VW[:)]

Re: Upgraded Volkswagen Polo Coming. Possibly with 1.6 TDi?

Agree with you Gurrala.
But VW brand is considered to be a premium brand and you will surely feel it when you are inside this German Engineered beauty that is the Polo. A Brand conscious customer who wants something small yet powerful would opt for this so called Polo and may not mind spending some 9 lakhs on this. Even though the 1.6 petrol variant didn't have overwhelming response it gained some customers. Like that if it was a diesel variant it would have attracted some who loves to drive with a heavy right foot and doesn't want the pocket pinching petrol bills.
the 1.6 variant ddn't do any well, actually it has miserably failed in market leading VW to pull it back.

You mean if VW had given 1.4/1.6 engines on polo tdi, then you would have bought it. I don't think so man. It would have been way overpriced compared to competition and very less people would have bothered to look at it as a value proposition.
Think about Honda Jazz when it was launched. Overpriced became synonym with the car, even though the car was perceived to be best hatch.

Btw what is the price of highline polo and top model i20 crdi ?
i20 crdi asta is expensive by a couple of grands. may have to check.

If people are happy to buy such a product I feel a powerful diesel variant will attract much more customers if they offer some thing powerful along with the 1.2 TDI.
I experience the difficulty of a car with lack of low end torque everyday especially while driving in bumber to bumber traffic.[:D] SO whenever I look for a car drivability in city as well as availability of power at disposal would be the things that I look into firstly. I am a sedative driver and rarely crosses 100km/hr mark. That is the primary reason why I wish if Polo had a better diesel heart

How sure are we to know what kind of brand VW is trying to establish into in India ?
Please understand not every car company wants their every product to be a mass product . Even tata have differnt expectations regarding market response they want for a nano and a aria .

VW have already started high localization plans for their true mass market product " up " .polo is and allways their premiuim hatchback offering they want i20 , jaaz coustomers not spark , wagon r , ritz coustomers .

Again please read papers on VW quality control and localization of their products in india and the problems they are facing they are available on the net free .

And iam not talking about quality of Indian made things in general iam talking about a car companies specefic requirement of certain parts.

Even fiat uses many parts which are not made in India and that is the very reason why people cry about fiat not having spares ready .

India is turning out to be a export hub now since Hyundai , Nissan , Renault , ford , Toyota are all making cars here and selling outside but that took time it's not a small thing and it dosent happen overnight please understand this .

@ Vishnu - the 3 pot of polo is not as bad as it seems it's quite powerful enough .
The tdi engine in general is noisy drive a skoda yeti and a mahindra xuv and tata aria it's very evident .
Even the Vento has more clatter then a new ford fiesta .

@ Gurralla - you seem to be against polo and it's 3 pot engine but you have been suggesting a fabia to people on the forum why so ?
Does fabia come with 4 clyinders ? You have been promoting skoda for its build quality and saying skoda is skoda which is a lesser and cheaper brand of VW group , and you are against the premiuim asked by VW why ?

Fabia is a polo is differnt clothes . So please have the same opinion about it when you suggest it to anybody as you have for a polo .

Agree with you Raja. The TDI engine powering Polo can't never be under estimated.
I am a person who loves the sound of diesel clatter:stupid: and I admit that Polo is a good highway cruiser. When it comes to the drivability in city it won't come near the benchmark Ford Figo TDCi which is available at a much lesser price tag. So the question would haunt 'Why pay such a premium price and go for something that you are not fully satisfied with ?"[:)]

Now what you talk makes sense , because along with city driveability you are also ready to compromise on the in cabin quality of figo right ?

But I find Gurrallas statement contradictory since he is suggesting a fabia for its quality and skoda badge but thinks asking price of polo is not justified .

Now for curiosity my question to you is if wanted a car to drive on highways and had nesscary budget what will you buy ? I20 , punto , fabia or a polo ?

This is what I had been saying all this while.

Regarding the noise, many times I take out my polo out at night, roll down the videos and listen to the engine growl. Anybody who loves the engine noise will love this note I swear.

Why black headlamps is exclusive only to highline ?
Those black headlamps don't look as attractive as European models. The headlamps may not be very cheap, hence included in highline.

VW hasn't added any picture for the same on their website, so I guess have to see in real, Is bluetooth module is coming with highline ? ( or at an extra cost ) ?

Checkout: makingofvolkswagen.com, and download the brochure. New polo pcs can be seen there. But still, we will get the best idea when we see in flesh.

Bluetooth is coming with highline as mentioned in brochure.

Re: Upgraded Volkswagen Polo Coming. Possibly with 1.6 TDi?

@Raja

OK, I would some up with this opinion here with is subjective[:)]

I am not against the car POLO at all, I am against for its high pricing for what ever it is offering.

When you said that Why Fabia and not Polo, yes there is a price difference with their respective offerings, I hope you understand that both have similar built and other qualities, but look at the space offered in Fabia, surely it will be much better than Polo and look at the noise of the both the cars, Fabia is better. That's it nothing more I would like to say here. Yes I am not against any brand VW or Skoda. The opinion differs from model to model which is again personal and subjective. Though it is costly I felt Yeti is worth to buy for the things it offers, I like Octavia, Luara, Superb for their offerings and price too, but I do not like Polo or Vento for their offerings and price, at the same time I like Jetta and Passat for their offerings and price, you know it is subjective always.

Polo is just a hatch and I feel Punto does the job very well than Polo in terms of everything including the price !![clap] so no offence on anything
