Re: The Mighty Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Drives In [39K Kms Crossed]
Yea remote diagnosis doesn't help. Recently I have done a 1.5K trip to Kerala through various terrains including off-roading. With my extensive observation, I made my statement.
Previous owner was a chauffer driven middle aged business man, who has never driven the vehicle off-road, and it was a 100% chauffer driven highway car.
I have not noticed the speed at which I am changing the gears, but I mainly rely on the engine note and the overall throttle response to change the gears. I have owned and driven extensively, swift Petrol - with weak low-end torque, Scorpio non crde turbo diesel - Very strong Low end torque, Honda Civic - again with weak low-end torque. So reasonably aware about the gear changing scenarios as per the various torque and power delivery.
I am not complaining about the gear leaver vibration, the gear box shaking(moving both gear lever together in sideways/to and fro while doing the off-roading). I may take the video next time.
I will not be going to do any remediation immediately and will try to isolate all the other aspects as you said, then probably will ask the ASC to check the drive line angle to see if it falls under the standard range, then to check the transmission mount. I may require Devdath's help to identify the proper contact in the Bangalore ASC. Sir are you listening ?
Since Pajero sport is using a short propeller shaft compared to the completion, the pinion angle will have shorter tolerance angle, which will affect badly if going for a lift kit. Saw the same in some SA, and AU forums.
Yes difficult to remote diagnose and guess work doesnt help - i just shared two instances i saw with other owners with similar problem description, and yes read the article as well which makes a lot of sense, however i wouldn't use that as diagnosis one, there should other simpler items to check and isolate first. Was your vehicle heavily offroaded or abused by first owner ?
minor vibrations are common with the gear, with low speed/rpm and incorrect gear it can rattle badly too. However excessive shake can be a worry if you are especially in the optimum range - so not sure if your gearbox was abused by previous owner. What speeds do you upshift in each of the gears ?
Usually there shud be next to no jerks if you are upshifting over 33kmph to 3rd gear and if you have light right feet.
