Re: The Mighty Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Drives In [39K Kms Crossed]

Yes difficult to remote diagnose and guess work doesnt help - i just shared two instances i saw with other owners with similar problem description, and yes read the article as well which makes a lot of sense, however i wouldn't use that as diagnosis one, there should other simpler items to check and isolate first. Was your vehicle heavily offroaded or abused by first owner ?

minor vibrations are common with the gear, with low speed/rpm and incorrect gear it can rattle badly too. However excessive shake can be a worry if you are especially in the optimum range - so not sure if your gearbox was abused by previous owner. What speeds do you upshift in each of the gears ?

Usually there shud be next to no jerks if you are upshifting over 33kmph to 3rd gear and if you have light right feet.
Yea remote diagnosis doesn't help. Recently I have done a 1.5K trip to Kerala through various terrains including off-roading. With my extensive observation, I made my statement.
Previous owner was a chauffer driven middle aged business man, who has never driven the vehicle off-road, and it was a 100% chauffer driven highway car.
I have not noticed the speed at which I am changing the gears, but I mainly rely on the engine note and the overall throttle response to change the gears. I have owned and driven extensively, swift Petrol - with weak low-end torque, Scorpio non crde turbo diesel - Very strong Low end torque, Honda Civic - again with weak low-end torque. So reasonably aware about the gear changing scenarios as per the various torque and power delivery.
I am not complaining about the gear leaver vibration, the gear box shaking(moving both gear lever together in sideways/to and fro while doing the off-roading). I may take the video next time.
I will not be going to do any remediation immediately and will try to isolate all the other aspects as you said, then probably will ask the ASC to check the drive line angle to see if it falls under the standard range, then to check the transmission mount. I may require Devdath's help to identify the proper contact in the Bangalore ASC. Sir are you listening ?

:offtopic:Since Pajero sport is using a short propeller shaft compared to the completion, the pinion angle will have shorter tolerance angle, which will affect badly if going for a lift kit. Saw the same in some SA, and AU forums.

Re: The Mighty Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Drives In [37K Kms Crossed]

In one ward I would say "almost the same issue as our fellow member "Chethak" facing", ie there is a vibration with a "Grrr sound" from the drivetrain while going through the humps or doing the sudden acceleration. I am facing the same, even on a highway with a bit of undulations. This will happen only when the accelerator is pressed during the above scenarios. I can re-frame the issues in a different way. "I am facing a drivetrain vibrations when the suspension is compressed and the gas pedal is pressed".
Having faced the same issue, the following reduced the occurrence of the issue:
1. Cleaning of the EGR Motor.
2. Greasing of the Propeller Shaft.
3. Check the quality and quantity of Oil in the Transfer Case.

In my opinion, the sound which we are facing comes from the Sleeve Yoke mounted on the Transfer Case end of the Propeller Shaft which allows for the length of the Propeller Shaft to change as it moves up and down with the rear axle. Under hard acceleration with suspension travel, both axial and lateral forces are high on the spline in the Sleeve Yoke and the matching of these frequencies causes the intermittent humming sound.

Thanks A.G for the suggestion, I will defiantly look in to this.
Urgently I need one information, please let me know the bulb/holder type of the front indicator. As I have ordered one LED DRL/turn indicator form aliexpress and seller is asking for the bulb/holder type.
Thanks in advance.

^^
This switch back DRL topic specific to Pajero Sport is covered in my ownership experience here.
Checked the owner’s manual of the Pajero Sport and the Turn Signal bulb was listed as PY21W. It cross referenced with BAU15S type holder.

Re: The Mighty Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Drives In [40K Kms Crossed]

40K Service Report :-

I took a day off and finally got this done : 40K is a critical milestone and required a full service (major). Basically includes replacing all fluids (except differential and transmission) - i asked for power steering fluid replacement as well. I asked especially for bleeding all 3 critical units - Brake, Clutch, Steering. Additionally Fuel filter, air filter were also replaced. AC filter was pressure cleaned.

Also cleaned up the brake pads - i think i might set the record for brake pad endurance on Pajero sport - done 40K on original pads so far and probably good to easily do another 15k -20k.

I asked for EGR and throttle body cleaning (though i think its included in this service) - also requested for clutch release bearing clean up. Some photos attached.

Total Damages a whopping 21k :- Which i think is OK for the job done except for brake bleeding and cleaning which was charged unusually high - but have agreed to revert that the next time so that will be 3k benefit for next time. I think 18K is more likely a fair price(for a Mitsubishi) also accounting the fact i used liquid gold(read as synthetic oil).

Draining the warmed up oil first

The coolant was drained simultaneously, bleeding process initiated , especially the power steering cranking process is lengthy, involving removing the crank angle sensor and cranking while moving the steering - does put some load on the battery - there weren't any air bubbles in my case. Thank to A.G for the tip off.

Brakepads all removed and cleaned and refitted - no change needed or envisaged for the next 15k kms, surprisingly good thickness

Bad Bad lungs - Cigarette Smoking is very injurious to health

IMG_20161125_114528.jpg

Bad Bad Kidneys - No tips here ![lol]

Open Heart Surgery (Fuel Pump draining and Cleaning)

New Lungs - Yipee

IMG_20161125_113328.jpg

New Kidneys as well!

IMG_20161125_113644.jpg

PS on a Saline - new fluids!

IMG_20161125_115050.jpg

IMG_20161125_114026.jpg

Throttle Body Cleaning - Must do exercise but needs to be done cautiously and assembled back neatly. I did wonder if I should be doing this at every 20k but dont want to not follow the manufacturer recommendation on this one.

The amount of gunk here was a revelation, though i always use COCO or Shell fuel

Next was the EGR valve cleaning

IMG_20161125_122453.jpg

IMG_20161125_122742.jpg

Brake Bleeding - a tad cumbersome procedure too, requiring two people one modulating the brake pedal and the other at the calipers

IMG_20161125_142744.jpg

Clutch release bearing cleaning - again i would say a must do process at every service, a small covering at the assembly needs prying opened and compressed air needs directed inwards - got a decent amount of clutch remnants flying out

IMG_20161125_143333.jpg

Rear Suspension, one of the suspension bushes had a cracked, didnt quite need a replacement but i replaced nevertheless

IMG_20161125_144732.jpg

Propeller shaft greasing

IMG_20161125_171851.jpg

Finally all done and clean engine - operation successful patient alive and kicking!

The car felt 15% better , especially the throttle body cleaning and air filter change make an immediate impact.

All in all a very fulfilling experience, the car continues to be phenomenally boring(reliable) and i am now touching 41k and 3 years completed. Its out of warranty now officially and it doesn even least bother me. The last 3 tankfuls were upwards of 13.5kmpl for my driving with the peak being 13.81kmpl on a tankful.

Some anecdotes from the Service Centre reassuring me of the Pajero reliability :-

1) Oldest SFX is a 7lakh run vehicle - no engine overhaul yet, clutch replaced thrice, timing belt twice.

2) Oldest PS is a 3lakh km run - no problems whatsoever apart from routine maintenance.

Also renewed Insurance - continued to keep the zero dep offer IDV at 18Lakhs and premium was 30,764 INR at the end of the third year.

The quintessential debate raging everywhere - i keep getting asked now New Fortuner or new Endeavour (while Mitsubishi is dozing or nearly dead in India)

Here is an interesting Part 1 and Part 2 of an Aussie review, price points and kits are different in aussie land - so kept that in mind , i only wish they did a comparo with the top end endy.

Lets just say the new Fortuner/Endeavour is making my life hard, cant wait for the new sport to come in next year(eternally optimistically [lol])

My running is low and its in top condition right now, a few friends already asked me if i wanted to sell. Only one tyre replaced in the XUV because of a side wall gash. Rest have enough tread to easily go over a lakh kms. Bridgestones are hardy boys.

I did a 3500+ kms trip recently to God's own country, PS crossed 45k in the process.
Bulletproof reliability throughout not even a whimper.

Overage mileage for the trip was :- 12.45 kmpl
Highest was a 13.28kmpl, lowest was a 11.66 kmpl

I wonder if anyone has actually sat in the Endeavour and compared the view for the driver. When I sit in my Pajero Sport, the view is absolutely glorious. I just cannot see my hood, unless I crane my neck, and then also, not more than a sliver, and from the highest height setting - I am 5'11". But when I look at the Endeavour, I see a very large, horizontal hood, and just cannot believe that the driver has an equally comfortable view. I have see these two above reviews, and my mouth is already watering on the new Pajero Sport, and I have read other long reviews and ownership threads on the Endeavour, but am still to find a reliable comment. Guess the best way is to visit a Ford showroom and see for myself.
