Re: The Mighty Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Drives In [26K Kms Crossed]

the Montero is heavy engineering investment and not a mass selling product.
The Montero is not a mass selling product because of Mitsubishi's lacklustre attitude towards it. It has been the same product, technically, for the past 6 years now. It was amongst the best when launched but now clearly lags behind the rest by a significant margin.

Also, a 7 year old product with no changes is not an "engineering-heavy" investment at all. All R&D & tooling costs would have broken even a long time ago.

Lastly, letting go of the Pajero name will surely be another nail, nay, plank in their coffin.

Re: The Mighty Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Drives In [26K Kms Crossed]

^^ we fans can keep harping about Mitsubishi Dakar heritage or how good something was 7 years ago, reality is their economics defies everything. I am not questioning return of investment on tools and dies of Montero, but if they want to focus on their whatever little future, they clearly have to do it on mass moving products and not the Montero - so that to me is a very clear and sensible decision. They also have to get their US strategy right.

Well the statement about Pajero dying is another poor marketing strategy, all they had to say (if at all) was to just say no further R&D investments in it for the foreseeable future. Who knows 10 years from now they might have enough moolah to revive.

BTW 13.48 kmpl was the last full tank reading - i went over 13 after a long time, fuel was shell this tank full. I have started using Fuelio to manage/track vehicle expenses, looks very promising and useful so far, will post some screenshots later.

I do not remember saying this.

Not all products of manufacturers work on unit economics.

The Montero was their flagship product and had they, like JLR did with the Range Rover, for example, improved it over time and made it keep up with competition, volumes would have followed for it and other mass products.

Had moving to mass products alone been the right decision, a lot of Cos would not have flagship products in their portfolio.

Hey IR,

I am calling dibs on your Pajero Sport whenever you want to sell. [;)]
Your offer is noted and at my next upgrade, you will get a zero dep quote

On a different topic , I wanted to share about this really cool app i discovered to manage and track all your vehicle expenses including fuel, maintenance, insurance , accessories etc. It has some really handy functions like reminders, charts etc. It took me just 10 minutes to put in all Pajero data - it was so simple and easy to use. I strongly recommend it and the best part is it can take backups and keep on google drive/Dropbox so if you switch phones it can still easily port. It can also generate detailed reports and you can have a multi vehicle set up.

Hii all.

Back to TAI after 4-5 years and hooked to this thread. I am a fan of all Mitsubishi SUVs and Pajero Sport is best all-rounder of them all. Since the time I had a terrific TD of PS at off roas track behind workshop of Pethkar Motors, Pune 3 years ago, I dream of owning one. Recently also had TD of PS Auto (but will never even consider it as its just Rwd) at Shakti Motors. They are offering Cruise control for 12k and Xenon lamps for 10k. None of the colours true ly impressed me and when I will finalize one, I'll get one with single tone solid red (the one which is available in dual tone). Shakti Motors guy was pushing me for finalizing this month by luring me with discount but I' refused for now.

Thanks Iron rock and other PS owners for this informative thread. This one contains all the info that one may require while buying a PS.

@Iron Rock: Maintenance chart at Pune workshop was very helpful especially and one thing I wonder is why are you using 5w40 when manufacturer recommends 10w30? I believe 10w30 is enough for oil change interval of 10k kms whereas, 5w40 is required for those recommending oil change intervals of 15k kms.

Re: The Mighty Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Drives In [26K Kms Crossed]

Welcome back torque-addict, if you are planning a PS do take a quote from Pune as well to match and check. Happy New year and sorry for my delayed response, have been on the move last 2 weeks.

Regarding your query on the oil, there is both the mineral and synthetic option - as a principal i always go with synthetic oil after the running in period when there is an option and also change oil every 10K kms no matter what the owner's manual says.

My rational for it, why feed an arabian steed a donkey's diet ? and 10k i think might be on the safer side compared to 15k, i know for sure in the longer run it augurs well and more importantly it helps me satiate my paranoid mind.
Again nothing wrong in following the owner's manual, i am just an old school buffoon who does what has worked well for me [clown]

Btw Cruise Control setup is finally complete for me with the installation of clutch switch - details coming shortly.

Happy New Year to all TAIans. Thanks Iron Rock. If at all I finalise PS, I'll most probably take take quote from all dealers of Mitsubishi in Maharashtra [;)] .

Checked out new Endeavour too recently and have posted photos in respective thread. Biggest attraction of new Endy is wider and longer full flat bed (after folding 2nd and 3rd row seats) and sunroof to some extent. On rest all points PS wins my heart. Whereas new Endy looks heavy (and it is heavy), PS looks sporty and agile.

Still wil have TD of Endy 3.2 Titanium and 2.2 4x4 MT once they are available.

Yes the new Endy is round the corner, you might as well wait and see the pricing. I would wait for the comparo once its officially launched - but in my head(and books) nothing beats the durability and reliability of japanese suvs. It simply doesn't let you down if you just take basic care.

In the meanwhile thats my last tankful FE :-

OK Just updated the Cruise Control post with the clutch switch installation process(read the last Edit in the link below), special thanks to our member AG - its always a pleasure talking to him. I havent explored the CC on the highways since the installation, will update that separately as time passes. So that completes the Cruise Control installation story.

Washed the car thoroughly recently , the collinite after effect remains strong. If you notice carefully the mitsubishi logo on the alloy is now red.[:D]

First puncture btw and it came in a set of 5 thankfully on just the one tyre, so the road gods automatically took care of the fact that i was lazy not to do tyre rotation, all punctures were very minor but brought out the soft nature of Apollo tyres, the punctured tyre goes as the stepney now and will eventually bring forward the tyre swap plan by an year atleast i guess.

The Apollo tyres get very soft with age and its evident post 25k running, compared to it the bridgestones on the XUV are much harder (but they have a different problem, they get cracks). I am nearly sure why the puncture occurred, took it over a particular bush which i had taken the xuv as well plenty of times, but the Apollos couldn't take the brunt obviously.

Last Full tank mileage at 12.38kmpl

I dunno, I haven't had a single puncture on Chetak yet with the odo now nudging 34k km and one trip to back of beyond Ladakh, and the most recent trip to CG via some truly hellish roads. I run 32PSI nitrogen all round and my Hawkz have held up very well.

Of course, I might not replace them due to the lack of grip in slush but as HT tires with an AT edge, I am satisfied with them.

Re: The Mighty Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Drives In [28K Kms Crossed]

^^ Yes I agree and you sure have much better luck(my XUV at 54k has had zero punctures), keep an eye now especially as you crossed 30k, my take is its getting softer. Its better than HT tyres for my usage any day and treads have held up decent too. I was expecting a life of around 60K kms but i think i might swap before that.

34k & 54k kms without punctures - simply amazing numbers. I too feel that the Apollo tyres have changed in character after crossing 30k kms mark. They have become softer resulting in a bit more body roll at the same 32 psi pressure. I played around with the tyre pressure but yet to find a comfortable setting.

Meanwhile trundling along some roads less visited :-

Some observations :-

  • The FE got a little boost post the service - its surely over 13 kmpl this cycle as well, will report when i fill up next.
  • Also Clutch switch works like magic, CC is working very well and as intended overall.

TPMS is ordered per AG's suggestions, delivery eagerly awaited
