Re: The Mighty Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Drives In [17K Kms Crossed]

Sorry for my late revert, its been some crazy travel. Chalk and Cheese comparison but since you are an XUV owner it is but inevitable. The knee room for a driver appears to be limited but once you adjust the seat you kinda get used to it. I have known tall drivers having no complaints. Next time you TD it make sure you explore the entire range of the seats. I find the Pajero seats comfortable for long driving, XUV ones are too, well contoured as well.
You will find the clutch extremely heavy though coming from XUV.

Pajero width is limited , so expect it to be not as spacious as XUV - but for 3 average adults its fine. The second row his adjustable to help with space management.

The stock kenwood system is surely better than the stock XUV system - even for my very average non audiophile ears. XUV radio is especially is poor sounding, thats where the PS is way better.

So are you looking to purchase a PS ?[:D]
XUV has more useable space, while Pajero feels like a Cedia on stilts. That is the biggest deterrent for my dad, but I think I can convince him in that regard. Now that I have learnt of a new gen in the making, I would wait for it.

I found XUV's FM to be better than Pajero's FM. But, neither is as bad as Fortuner's(pre-facelift) audio.

Re: The Mighty Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Drives In [19K Kms Crossed]

Latest full tank gave me 12.79kmpl.

This weekend the Pajero was on overdrive, just about every vehicle in the family got stuck in the monsoon muck at the farm. Bolero, XUV had to be rescued by the Pajero. I did a lot of offroad driving this weekend trying to explore limits of 4H and when i need to lock the central differential really and how 4L is such a boon when taking steep inclines mid way and towing vehicles on a 25 degree incline without burning your clutch. It was a lot of fun and learning. XUV was the worst stuck digging in to a feet and half of muck. Bolero managed to slip out of the road in to a ditch, tyres were all chocolate donuts.

The effortless nature of the Pajero mesmerizes me offroad, i keep wondering what miracles it can do with a upgraded set of shoes, the current oem Appollo are below average really, though the Pajero makes it up with the raw torque.

Sorry no pictures i was a solo operator.

When I bought the Gurkha I did some real offroading but solo and therefore many would ask me for pics and I had none.

^^ Sirji whatever photos you missed during the Gurkha days, you have made up with the last 2 outings in Delhi with the Pajero gang! These days you are the rockstar with the yellow beast - share some notes/observations from the day.[:D]

Iron Rock, what tyre pressure do you keep on your tyres? The Pajero manual says 29 front and 32 rear for upto 5 passengers. I find it hard to believe that the front tyres have a lower rated pressure. Many forums say not to ignore the manufacturer's advise and rely on the friendly tyre-wallah's advice. But my tyre guy has been in the trade for 40 years and he does really know his stuff and his recommendation, especially Pirelli P7 for my Corolla did really transform the car in an outstanding manner and all my parsi friends who are car fanatics swear by him. He says 32 on all tyres without doubt, plus nitrogen filling. What is your take?

I have been experimenting as well with pressures, but now i keep 32 on both front and rear. While going by manufacturer recommendation is the best way to go, you need to also consider most gauges including digital ones are not 100% accurate and most cases i have seen they show higher readings but tyres are a few psi lower practically(have seen the other way round too but that is rare, atleast in my experiences). Also i usually have a few passengers while i drive in most cases. Keep an eye on tyre wear though, under and over inflation cause different type of wear. Btw I put 35 in the spare, so i dont have to fill it up regularly.

Humans can barely feel the difference in 1-2 psi region - i would be really surprised if you are able to see noticeable/perceived changes between 30-32 psi. Alternate between 2 different pumps which you think are close to accurate - that way you wont be over 2 psi out. If one of the pumps goes way out in calibration , the other one would alert you - then may be you need a third one to figure out which is true , ha ha!

Re: The Mighty Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Drives In [19K Kms Crossed]

Three.five (3.5 ) Service Report :-

The PS is nearly 20k old(18 months) and the fourth service was due as per the 6 month service period, however since the running wasn't much from the last service (hardly 5k kms) - i decided not to replace all essential fluids but to just do a general check up largely to comply with warranty norms.

This time i went to Pethkar motors service centre at Kothrud - again because lot of J Williams staff(I trust Sachin as my service manager) have moved on there , people i really trust and also because HM recommended me Pethkar and the changes they have brought about. I must say the service level here has gone up significantly higher than say an year back. I would now recommend them! I also met the new service VP, ex Toyota guy, good guy, knows his stuff and glad to see the changes happening. We had a good conversation going.

I had really no complaints, issues/niggles to address, just routine stuff.
It costed me some 1800Rs including wheel alignment and balancing - top-ups were hardly required. Some activities done :-

1)All 4 Brake Pads check, clean up
2) All fluids check
3) Torquing of bolts and suspension check
4) Wheel Alignment and Balancing (wasnt really required but i went ahead with it just to be sure, PS didnt lose any alignment in 20k of running! )
5) Propeller Shaft greasing
6) Air Filter Cleaning
7) Typical servicing checks

Overall I would rate them a 9/10 now!

Some pictures :-

Always nice to be in the Pajero backyard, beautiful sights with SFX/GLX/Lancers and grand daddy Montero.

Brake Pad still in decent state at 20k, looks like it might last another 10k, might set the new world record for PS brake pad endurance [:D][lol]

Balancing done

IMG_20150617_111308.jpg

Detailed underbody check and then a wash done as it was dirty after an offroad episode and not properly washed.

Greasing is a quintessential service thats lacking in majority of garages in India sadly. Mahindra, Force all don't have grease guns and sadly neither do gas stations unlike my childhood when most gas stations had them. If you have axle you need to grease. Force Gurkha as eight points in front suspension alone apart from the axles.

Necessity made me get a Stanley grease gun and then a friend in Pune was kind enough to source me Mobil XHP 232 synthetic grease which turned out to be better than what they put at most workshops but kudos to Mitsubishi India for carrying grease gun.

@Iron Rock - you had mentioned 12.79kmpl. This was with AC on and with 2-3 passengers on average? I am getting around 10.6 in AT with 4 passengers with AC on though it is too early to say anything reliably - I am about to turn the vehicle in for 1000km service.

Yes AC always on and 2-3 passengers mostly - i follow some good habits while driving, no unnecessary hard acceleration (occasionally in a fun mood i do, otherwise i am frugal) - manage and contains speed up to 100kmph or under , lot of coasting, reduced brake usage.

Anyways dont worry PS improves by a kmpl atleast once its runs in - wait for a few thousand kms and let the mechanicals sink in.

Its perfectly fine, works as its meant to be. I use it regularly in every expressway drive, nothing more relaxing than putting the elephant at 90kmph and trundling along.

thank you Iron Rock, any of the other Banagloreans interested in having the cruise control installed, we could have this done together. I had spoken to SVR and they will help. Provided we get the parts
