Re: The Mighty Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Drives In [14K Kms Crossed]

Quick update on the third service :-

I had no complaints whatsoever so was a routine affair, i had got the service done at Shakti Motors , Mumbai for a change this time.

Total Cost - 9640 + tax

Breakup :-

Oil - 6826 (Synthetic)
Oil Filter - 996
Fuel Filter - 1785
Windscreen wash Fluid - 32

The Pajero has crossed an year and also 15k in running, I must say it has run in well now and i am consistently getting average over 13kmpl in the last 5 cycles, i have been using shell diesel recently thanks to the lower oil prices. The last cycle tank full i got 13.21 kmpl. The highway efficiency has improved a lot compared to what i used to get before and i dont exceed 110kmph - its mostly driven sedately between 90-100 cruise control where possible.

The insurance is renewed as well, zero dep insurance at 40k something. I moved the provider to my regular one.

Why are you replacing engine oil so early? I read your second service update. It was at 7k kms and this third service at 14k kms you are putting synthetic oil and replacing at 6 months or 7k which is costing you a lot of money. Is oil change compulsory at 6 months? If your running is not high why not go for mineral oil is it compulsory to put synthetic oil from ASS [confused]

I had a major accident on my Pajero AT and It's Pajero, that saved my family without a single scratch. Pajero gone for total loss and I am getting IDV from the Insurance. I will update with photos in next two days.

Nothing surprising here, all new vehicles initially have a oil change at a short interval first and then mostly at 10k intervals. The short interval initially is to flush out potential engine wear contaminants, metal residues.

I did mine a little early in terms of running as elapsed time was higher, running has been less as I use other vehicles too. Also I wouldn't compromise on synthetic oil, as a wise man once said if you buy an arabian stallion don't feed him a donkey's diet.

Hi sooryanp, sad to hear the news about your vehicle.
One Pajero belong to our friend overturned, and the family lost their youngest kid.
Happy to hear that your family and yourself are saved without any issues.

My friend's case was front tyre busted. He was driving around 120km/hr. The vehicle overturned multiple times. I doubt the rear passengers were not wearing seat belts.

Anyway, please post your details.

Sorry to hear about your mishap. Glad that your family is safe. It was you who made a wise decision of buying pajero which has scored 4 star safety rating in NCAP crash test.

Re: The Mighty Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Drives In [15K Kms Crossed]

Let me Recap. On that fateful day of Feb 8th , I was returning to Hyderabad from Vizag. I am not sure, why I have taken Khammam route leaving 4 lane expressway :) (It is still not clear to me why I made such decision). At around 12:30 PM, we crossed Khammam and heading towards Hyderabad and planning for lunch break in next 30 min. I was with my wife and 2.5 year old daughter. That road is narrow with lot of curves (just 2 lanes).

now, if i recollect exactly, There was a tractor loaded with Haystack coming in the opposite direction. As usual, the stack covered half of my lane as well thus obstructing my view. Meanwhile, a heavy truck wanted to overtake the tractor and it was almost fully into my lane. I couldn't see the truck coming till last minute. To avoid the head on collision, Instantly I turned the steering to left and then immediately to right (there was a huge tree on left side and trench . To avoid , I had to turn steering to right). Thus , I could avoid head on collision but went and hit on the middle of the truck.

After hitting the truck, we are not sure what happened. It's just matter of seconds, air bags opened and the Pajero took a complete U Turn and came to stand still (that is on opposite lane). All the door locks were opened and we just came out of the car.

My 2.5 year old daughter could understand what happened, we were out of the car, scratch free except for a minor injury on my right knee.

The real feeling of the accident started sinking into our mind only after started looking at the damaged car.

Front right tyre bursts, air bags opened, chassis taken the hit, front portion completely damaged but the beauty was front screens were not shattered in spite of a major hit not any of the door windows. Look at the reveals startling facts . except for the airbags, nothing changed in the cabin and we were completely insulated from any type of injury.

For better clarity, I have uploaded the pics to google drive and sharing the link(at the bottom).

Fortunately, local police came to our rescue and well taken care. Let me just quote one Senior CT, who visited the spot. " This area is highly accident prone and every alternate day some fatal accidents happen here and today was your turn but I never seen a situation like this. This magnitude of accident would have killed the travelers without any doubt. But you guys are standing outside the car and smiling as if nothing happened. You made best selection of the car and I would recommend this car to my friends".

It was a miraculous and escape from jaws of death. We strongly believe , It's Pajero that saved our life. I am sure, any other SUV would have saved us from death.

The most surprise and fortunate thing was, we never felt the impact not was a body roll. just sitting in a quite cabin nothing much.

I will post some other updates more on the accident and insurance claim experience.

Pride Mitsubishi provided me excellent service and in time help. Especially It's owner Mr Sudharshan reddy and CEO - Sharat. They were there, when I needed them. That cleared any doubts in mind about the service .

Meanwhile, have a look at the pics shared in google drive.

Note: As the vehicle went for total loss, I am booking another Pajero AT :). HM is nice to provide my some discount and negotiating with them.

Thank god you and your family is safe. The airbags open on time. Why you have done such a silly mistake? Dude you are not supposed to put bull bar in front of your pajero not only pajero any vehicle. Don't you know that? Ironrock please advice him this is a serious mistake. You risk yourself and your family by putting bull bar[frustration]. Please google it.

@ Sooryanp

After viewing the photos you attached, i shudder to think what would have happened in a lesser capable vehicle.

This accident reinforces the idea that the vehicle a person purchases should always be equipped with the best safety features - whatever the cost. We need to get out of this "Sasta, Tikau" attitude when it comes to our family safety and our safety especially with regard to our vehicles.

I am glad that Mitsubishi is being extremely proactive with regard to your incident. Mitsubishi India sends shivers in many people's minds with regards to their after sales etc etc.

When I upgrade my vehicle, the fact that this vehicle saved your family and you will go a long way to convince me to buy it.

Please do share the further course of action on the part of Mitsubishi

God really is great.

Mathew@

I heard this news from my wife as my wife is working as a nurse in one of the hospital they admitted and saw the family's picture. We both were sad after seeing that cute girls picture. I heard they were on the way to airport to visit home country.
May god give more strength to that family.

All is well that ends well Soorya. And yes, it is such incidents and the help thereafter that reinforce customer faith in a product.

I know another Pajero Sport owner from Bombay whose PS rolled 4-5 times at a place called Modasa in Gujarat a couple of months ago when he was trying to save a two wheeler coming on the opposite side.
While he came out unhurt of the vehicle, his wife and kid, who are sitting in the middle row without wearing seat belts were thrown out of the vehicle and hand injuries. They are all safe and sound now.

So when are you getting your new PS AT?

PS: There are no photos in the folder that you have mentioned here.
