With your vast experience you can help newbies to DSLR how to take better pictures and improve their skills.
Vast experience ?? you must be kidding!

Why don't you give some tips on DOP, Flash usage, HDR, night photography, metering - which to use for what occations, exposure compensation, fine tuning the camera settings,ISO, when to use aperture priority, when to use shutter priority, etc.
One can read owners manual for all those things (jokes apart.) and that is the best practice to follow.

you learn on the go. it will be hard for you to remember the verbal instruction while you shoot.
same as you drive .
you drive, you master it. it comes on its own to your convenience then you realize that all those verbal or written instructions were just futile.

Basically a cam require only 1 thing and that is shutter button.

When you develop your pics you should realize what are the artifacts and short comings and from there you try to overcome them one by one.

I have met lot many of people (amateur)who have best DSLR cam but cannot focus properly they just survive out with autofocus and auto mode functions.I wonder if it is they have problem in eye or something mysterious.

@Jayadev I agree with your point above the way we learn car photography too comes the same way albeit its a lot more in depth & lot of different thing associated with it.

A little tidbit I learnt after I really got into photography about Flash, Flash can be used even in broad daylight specially for portraits if the sun is behind or overhead to either illuminate the face of the person or fill the shadows on a person's face apart from flash can also use reflector (silver or white or gold colored).....

@Highway Ranger that link takes me back to the homepage of the forum.... however the idea of a thread asking for tips on photography is good.... helps everyone no matter if a person is a pro as well.

This pic is still possible if you have a tripod or even if you place your camera either DSLR or a P&S on a rock or something that can keep the camera steady, only nit pick the glossy finish on the right looks a bit fake than the actual look on the left (from camera view) Like the way its captured maybe bumping up the brightness or doing a fill light will bring out all the features of the car well, still feel its underexposed

Can you post the EXIF info for this pic?

by placing on tripod? how would you compensate sunlight from rear?I wanted that sun along with subtle detail of the car without underexposing to much. so flash with some exposure compensation was how I did it.

it has to balance the exposure from rear to the dark areas on subject ,that is only possible when you have supporting or additional light like flash.
But I agree there are no hard n cut rules but all depends upon the skill of photographer

As I told before ,I did some touch up ,I brushed dodge just to enhance the appeal on those lines.
this pic was taken for some other purpose long ago I just posted here for reference .

Can you post the EXIF info for this pic?
Sure I will try to look for it and post.

Ideal situation for using the flash in broad day light. When your light is bright behind your subject.

For taking the car with flash requires a great deal of skill to make sure the flash high lights are not visible.

What mode of flash did you use? rear sink?

IMHO, Another way to get this effect is to change the metering take multiple shots and do a HDR

I have nearly zeroed on the Canon EOS Rebel T4i DSLR , the dilemma i have is the choice of lens :-
Option 1 :- 18-135mm Lens
Option 2 :- 18-55mm + 55-250mm lens

I intend to also buy a macro lens a little later.

Any suggestions from the experts, btw option 2 is cheaper than 1!

Hi All,
Which is the best entry level DSLR for a begginer? I have the following cameras in my list.
1. Cannon EOS 1100D
2. Nikkon D3100
3. Nikkon D3200
My budget is 30K and if required I can strech it till 35K not beyond that.

Thanks,
Bala

If you can afford, option 1 is better.

I suggest you to finalize either D3200 or D5100.

Thanks mate difference isnt that big, just a case of having more flexibility vs carrying 2 lens, i took the greedy route of option 2 [:D]

Purchase is made , it should reach me in a weeks time or so, is there anywhere a noob's guide to dslr usage ?

Mug up 3 things from manual or internet.
1.ISO
2.Shutter speed
3.Aperture settings.

Try without inbuilt flash.

Happy shooting.[clap]

I shouldnt have asked for a noob's guide then
I have largely used P/S in manual modes, so in a way this is my first DSLR - was looking to buy an entry level DSLR and hence zeroed on T4i(known here as EOS 650D i think). So will have 2 lens, i also intend to buy a macro lens. Suggestions welcome.

@ Jayadev Thanks , may be i should also issue a formal warning in the best photography section - "my photos are best in my subjective opinion - reality be damned" [;)]
