Well I feel, the car would be against the Alto, Eon and Kwid.
Nano is one segment below Altos and Eons.
Tiago is above Alto and Eon Competing with the likes of Celerio and i10, i10Grand.
So this new car will fill the gap competing with altos and Eons and Kwid.

Now coming back to Tiago thread.

@DJBro, I see a lot of request of would be Tiago owners joining the Tiago group on Whatapp and Facebook. Can you give numbers of member in the group. I believe all are would be owners of Tiago. This will give us a count of Tiago owners on TAI.

there are currently only 13 actual Tiago owners in the WhatsApp group, of which only 4/5 members are from TAI.

Today, after waiting for weeks, finally Test Drove the Tata Tiago.

First, it was the 1.2 Revotron Petrol.
On paper, the engine is good but in real it's a different story. Engine noise was on higher side outside (3 cylinder engine), inside Noise was minimum and was audible only when revved.

As soon as I started the engine, the vibrations were very high. Noticed Steering, Clutch vibrating slightly but gear lever was shaking like shaker.

Power delivery is good, especially in 1700-2500 rpm , but below 1500 rpm it struggled. Even on open stretch I drove I managed to rev up to 4800 rpm and power wasn't felt at all. Although this thing is mostly required on highways, but this is more of a city car. Apart from the engine part, the gears shifted smoothly and the brakes were good. AC was good in cooling cabin quickly.
Ride quality was impressive and the car felt confident and offered big car feel.

Next up was Diesel, Here too sound was bit higher on outside but inside it was very minimal. Diesel was quick off the mark and there was good momentum under 1500 rpm. Mid range was very good and revved till 3800 rpm on open road and the Diesel felt better here. The FE was hovering around 16.5 kmpl. So that's a good number in city drives.

Overall I felt the Diesel to be better then Petrol. Even if I am buying one, it would have been Diesel anyway. Tata & Petrol don't gel well for me. Diesel is my pick of the two after driving them around 9kms.

I am contemplating Tiago simply because of the Ride Quality. It's way better than my Brio. Brio is a damn good car especially as a 2nd car, but Ride Quality is its biggest downside.
Tiago does well here and is good inside & out also. But Engine (1.2 Petrol) is nowhere near the 1.2 iVTEC. Hence if I am considering one, it would be the 1.0 Revotorq for me.

Have asked for another TD of different car, due to the uneven vibrations I faced on Petrol car, If it's different, I might consider Petrol due to its price.

Hi I would suggest you to try starting a couple of new petrol cars in the dealership yard itself and then TD the demo car. My hunch is that the TD cars are the ones which were billed in February and hence must have seen fair bit of abuse. Don't go by the odo figures in TD cars because they would have been driven by a couple of hundred drivers till now. Why I can say confidentely about this is because of the experience I have with two TATA cars I have. The Genx Nano XTA has done 2600km till now and I am pleasantly surprised by the engine sound compared to the demo car. The car I test drove had hardly done 450km but engine sound was so much harsher mine sounds like a Japanese engine! Sometimes I put the car in manual mode and it reaches 80kmph in 3 rd with no vibrations or harshness at all unlike the TD car.

Yes, I have asked for another TD of Petrol Tiago. I think the issue was with that old Demo car but new one should do better I guess. Decision lies on how well the Petrol impresses me, if not it's Diesel. Diesel was much smoother and more energetic. But Diesel is around 90-100k more dearer then Petrol & at 7 lakhs for the Diesel XZ, the Tiago doesn't make sense IMO. I can get Ford Figo Diesel at that price which has a powerful 1.5 Diesel.

The cheapest Figo with ABS costs more than 2 laks than the TIAGO XZ diesel.

Your statement is far away from truth. Tiago with extended warranty costs 7.06L in Bangalore and Figo Titanium after the offers comes to 8.3L. So it costs 1.25L more and upto you guys to decide if it's worth.

With Delhi and Kerala banning older diesel cars, is it advised to go for petrol if the usage is within 1500KMs per month since the resale value will go down for diesels?

@nishant5858 - Thanks for the test drive report. 1.6 TDI owner complaining about engine sound? [;)].
Yup, Absolutely true in that sense. The 1.6 TDI is noisy agreed but it smoothens once you pick up speed. But the Tiago was opposite, Refined at idle but gets noiser when revved. Noise isn't a problem to me, but Vibration and not so good power & acceleration are.

Yes, Tiago is way cheaper if you compare spec to spec versions, but if you consider Tiago XZ with Figo Trend/Ambiente which are less equipped though still make the difference marginal. For the difference you get a car with a Proper 4 cylinder engine & Higher Power output & Torque and very refined engine. I prefer more driver oriented cars rather then feature oriented ones and hence Performance is a priority. If Tiago/Figo it would be base or mid versions at best.

I only mentioned the qoutes from carwale website and I believe they have clearly mentioned the ex showroom costs plus the life tax and insurance costs. Now the AMC/extended warranty are always optional. Like wise the discounts are again variable every month and not a one time price correction. My point was if some one buys a powerful 4 cylinder diesel car ABS becomes more of a compulsion rather than an option, so that's why I picked the Titanium version of the Figo.
It's not that TIAGO has a superior engine/performance compared to Figo but my intention was to compare variants with similar features.
