Tata Zest Revotron XT Ownership Review: Newest Member of Our Family

Guys, Below are the things that I noticed :
1. In the morning when I start the car, the RPM stalls at 1200-1500 and only after few turns on the wheel, it comes back to the normal 650-750.

2. When in the traffic, I hold down the clutch and slowly release while accelerating, it suddenly does to 2K RPM and slowly comes back. Scenario of stall again?

I may be technically very weak with cars, but I certainly believe that something is not right here as I have experience of owning couple of petrol cars and also countless kms of driving experience. Help appreciated.

I am driving zest for past 2 months.
I too noticed somewhat same phenomenon a few days back. But I soon rectified it by keeping engine ON (ignition ON) for 5 minutes early morning. After that no problem at all.
This may be due to cold temperature, which is 3-4 degrees here in DDN. I think this will vanish after first service or as soon as winters vanish

That's the way the system tries to heat up the turbo. You should be knowing that turbo charged vehicles should be following the 30 sec idling rule. So keep your vehicle on for a min or so and the rpm will come down to normal. I experience it daily on my zest revotron. It's a normal phenomenon and you need not be worried. Just don't move your vehicle till the rpm comes to normal level. It's good for your vehicle

Another workaround to have GPS navigation on Harman kardon system would be to use cast screen feature of the android smart phone to mirror the image of phone screen on our zest's display. I will be working on this, will update you all with my progress after a while. once I manage some time[thinking]

Couple of questions. I have taken delivery of my RED RT XT and have not driven at all after taking delivery on 25th Dec. I have observed few things as i start the engine everyday and keep it on for 10 mins.

1. The engine rpm raises to 1200 and then settles down to 650- 750.
2. There is slight jerk/jump/movement which can be felt in car and in steering also while the car is idiling.

other than the above i could not find any issue as of now. Could you please let me know if these are normal with Revotron or do i need to visit the service center and get it clarified. Thanks in advance.

Same here even after driving 2200 km. Revotron behaves this way I believe. No diagnostic help from service center either.

The Idling RPM is high in morning time when you start the vehicle because the engine is cold. It happens with every car in cold weather for 2-3 minutes and then the RPM settles. This happens in my Esteem Vxi too.

A Q:The movement that you feel, does it remain after RPM gets lower or it goes away once RPM gets to normal?

No Akash, it does not completely vanish but the impact is less after the RPM settles down.
I would not be able to give you precise answer on this as i have just clocked 165 k on the odometer.

No issues, It might be due to cold engine and initial starts in the morning to show these temporary signs. Drive the vehicle more and I am sure as the engine gets more agile this issue will too be resolved.

Recently concluded approx. 700 KMs Delhi-Jaipur-Delhi trip. Let me admit that I didn't like this highway. It was full of big trucks moving parallely. I couldn't find even 1 KM long open stretch.

Apart from trucks, there were several patches where construction was going on. So had to take busy roads parallel to highway. I was continuously using 3rd, 4th & 5th gear. This highway didn't allow me to drive freely.

I mostly used City mode (80%) and occasional Sports mode (20%). This trip returned me 15.1 KMPL as per MID. Same was confirmed with Tank-full method also. 50.5 ltrs were used to cover 780 KMs, returning 15.4 KMPL.

My XM (RT) infotainment system is not able to read my pen drive. Everytime I connect it shows "USB Error". However, when I connect my phone through USB port, it can read the memory card of my cell phone and plays everything nicely.
Any solution for playing pen drive?

32 GB is MAX limit for pen drive and 16GB for SD card..hope you are trying accordingly.

Clocked 3625 km involving two long trips Delhi-Jaipur, Delhi Jammu. The engine getting smoother with every drive. highest fuel economy now is 16.9 on highways and 14.6 city measured tank full to tank full. No more Morning startup and seazing in traffic issues bothering me. Few new issues on which I request your comments are:
Antenna chewed up by a stray cat/ dog, though still working, any fix?
Head lamps are under powered!
Two minor scratches given by somebody with key/pabble/coin. Any fix?

1. You can replace antenna with Shark fin antenna if you wish, Active will cost you around INR800 and dummy will cost around INR300.
2. Not sure since Tata Zest has Projector headlamp.
3. You can try waxing the car and see if minor scratches are gone otherwise on next servicing Tata guys can fix them using rubbing compound. Please post photos of scratches to make them clear to other members.
