I took zest to service centre.

They connected laptop to port and checked for errors.

They kept it connected and drove the zest, for more than 40 mins

The laptop recorded the patterns and fuel pump and engine characteristics were all normal.

They didn't face any jerks and didn't know why I was facing the issue.

Hot summers here in hyderabad

The zest is pulling to the right, will try to inflate tyres and check.

Petrol smell prominent after today's refill.

It was there for almost 10 minutes after filling petrol.

Rolled windows down, to clear cabin air.

No leakage of petrol from anywhere.

Will be taking to service centre to check wheel alignment.

Pulling to the right must be an issue with the wheel alignment. Get it checked.

I have no idea about what is causing the smell. Yes, take it to the service center and take the mechanic for a long ride and fill petrol in his presence.

Congrats on your buy and for the write up on your baby..!I for one being a huge fan of TATA cars own 2011 vista vx and am proud to say never had any issues that bothers so much[glasses]. Coming to your car steering right, Should get the allignment right and if ever it still persists, Advise you to get correct pressures inflated. The soon the better :) Wishing loads of joy [:D]

I have ordered them waiting for delivery! Will post once I fit them.

I checked with one of my friend who own a Skoda Rapid petrol. He had the same issue that you have reported. Smell of petrol and car will stall while overtaking with AC on. The stalling issue is a very dangerous situation.

He got the issue fixed by replacing the fuel pump and the injectors. Both should be covered under warranty. I would suggest you to call TATA MOTORS customer care number once you are in the service center and demand them to have these parts replaced by the dealer. I am sure you will get the response immediately from the service center.
The customer care of TATA MOTORS is very responsive.

The thing is that tata motors have done two very detailed test drives of the zest and they didn't face any issue while they were driving. They said they can replace with new fuel pump but since the issue didn't arise while driving they told me to continue driving and as and when I face the same issue, they told me to get back to them.

Skoda car injectors fail very quickly and this issue is very prevalent with them but failing fuel pump in brand new cars is something which is not acceptable.

Can you tell me how old was your friend's car when the fuel pump was replaced ?

Kishore what I would suggest is go for the OBD scanner which is available on ebay or amazon for around 1300 buck. Connect it in your car and drive it. the moment you see the issue it will be recorded in your obd scanner and you can show it to the TASS. that way you have solid concrete data to share with Tass.
Most of the times its the murphys laws that when you want to show the problem to the mechanic it never happens.

Heres the link where you can get one
http://www.amazon.in/Elm327-Bluetooth-Diagnostic-Scanner-Android/dp/B00ARCW2IE

all you need to do is install the apk on your andriod phone and connect the device on the obd port in your car. exactly where the TASS connect thier computers. it will pair with you phone and start streaming data in your phone .

Just checked OBD scanners - that's a very good idea, but can't we ask TASS to change fuel pump if a customer is repeatedly coming with the same issue ?

Today I intentionally drove for just 3-4 kms in narrow roads and parked the car, this time smell came from both the rear tyre wells. It was already 6 pm, so planning to take it tomorrow morning.

I also need to check the alignment issue with them.

I would also suggest you drive the car while they sit behind and relax and check thier computers. Drive on the exact roads you drive on the exact way you drive. Probably that will help them come close to the root cause.

This happened to him when the car was 3 months old.
It is better to get the fuel pump replaced as soon as possible because the stalling issue may come back any time and is worse if it happens while overtaking. This stalling issue will happen when you drive with the AC on at a good speed.
