The zest finally crosses the 10,000 kms mark, which is slow by today's standards.
From december 2016 after I joined in a new job and with a change in schedule many things changed.
The pics above are from today's drive.
The zest gave a good mileage of above 17 kmpl. All the kms logged were in city traffic conditions with lots of idling today morning in a pretty bad traffic jam. Fifth gear used only twice or thrice in the whole day.
Here's my review of the zest after having used it for 10,000 kms and over an year.
What I like
- The zest is a workhorse and can take abuse pretty much. Given my aggressive style of driving, it has tolerated me well till now.
- Though mileage varies drastically for even small changes of parameters , the figures are very impressive on highways given the weight of the car.
- Feature rich car with complete value for money.
- Noise insulation and ride quality.
- Once in the turbo zone, the revotron pulls like an electric locomotive.
- Music system
What I don't like
- Pulling issue
This bloody thing crops up for even small potholes. There is an uneven pull to the right when one's driving. I gave the car for wheel alignment for 6 times in the last 10,000 kms. The usual interval is just once in every 5000 kms.
- Brakes
The brakes have good stopping power but there is always some grinding sound and sometimes a squealing sound while hitting the brakes.
- air conditioner
Not sure if its south indian summer heat, but my family members always complain the AC to be insufficient. If the cooling is increased, the blower sound is more and there is drop of pick up and mileage.
- the zest is not as smooth as it used to be in its initial days. But I have started to ignore these things and use the zest as it is.
I gave the car to service centre to check its fitness and they said the car is fine.
So I am going to put my doubts and observations aside and believe them for once. Not that I trust them, but because I want to enjoy the drive and have peace of mind.
There has to be a special mention about mileage.
Is the revotron not a fuel efficient engine ?
Here a few things that effect the mileage of the zest petrol.
Petrol pump
Yes, you read it right. The zest shows lots of difference in mileage whenever there is a change in petrol pump. Funny thing is the petrol pump near my house which is not famous for petrol quality gives the highest mileage when used in my zest. The same petrol when used in my two wheeler gives less mileage.
AC
Obvious for a petrol car.
Style of driving
The lesser we use the accelerator and use the torque to keep the car going tremendously increases the mileage. The key here is not speed or gear but use proper gear for proper rpms to maintain smooth acceleration. The best example is today, where I hardly used 5th gear and drove the zest whole day in traffic even then it gave a solid 17+ kmpl mileage.
Overall I still look back at my little volvo bus after I park in my garage. Hope that sums it all.
Hope I covered all details.
