Re: Tata Zest XM (Revotron) Ownership Review

what is your avg now
Dear AMIT BISHNOI,

My car is now at 3000 kms. First service was completed from KB Motors, Kolkata. It was a good and professional job done by them. They cleaned the air filter also on my request. The last refill before first free service gave 13.21 kmpl with 30% consumption of AC. After the service work, the fuel efficiency jumped to 15.22 kmpl with nearly 40% AC (during summer days). In all these occasions the car was driven 70% in eco mode, 25% city and 5% sport mode. I used to drive through relatively open city roads. It was not a bumper to bumper traffic.

Thanks sir. What about pick up and vibrations in gear stick?

Sagacious

Dont need to worry much.

Just go to the dealer and tell him i want to raise a issue for gear vibrations.
If they dont listdn you can raise an issue on tml toll free no.

Gear box will be replaced.

For harman issue get the firmware updated to dec 2014.
You should be fine.

Happy Zesting. :)
Hi Sunny,
I got my zest QDJ checked by the service manager this weekend.
He says that the jerk that you see (not just feel) is due to transmission lines design and is not a flaw [surprise]. More than that the rattle of 3rd gear is my main concern.
The manager said he has had same issue from at least 2 more customers and TML is working on it. He offered me to get some parts of the gear box replaced and then see if the rattle goes away. There was no mention of the entire gear box being replaced as you said. As of now I am waiting for my first service which is due in some 2 months and hoping that TML comes up with a solution for this rattle at least if not for the vibration.

Thanks sir. What about pick up and vibrations in gear stick?
My comments on vibrations in gear stick:

I have experienced such vibrations in the test drive car. Thankfully, nothing such is found in my car. In-fact I found in the internet, that if you move the gear lever to any gear position from neutral, say 1st, 2nd or any other like 5th, that lever does not move to the end of the given slot. It keeps a few inches at the front. Now if anyone rests hand on the lever, then it forced to move to the end and vibrates. However, I haven't tested this theory. I touched the gear stick sometimes during driving and no vibration was noted.

About pick up of the car:

I have conducted the ECU update. Now, the car is capable to move decently within a congested city like Kolkata in Eco mode. I can potter around the whole city using the Eco mode. However, the driver needs to plan overtake and sudden accelerations. The use of City mode also provides the sudden accelerations. However, the Sport mode is strictly restricted with city limits, though its my personal decision.

Hello Guys, today i did PDI for Sky Grey Zest allocated to me, found few issues like rusting in Tyre Rim's, front disk brakes and bonnet screws's.

Also, cover sheet behind clutch & brake pedal was not fitted properly and open and i could see all cables there..

Sales & stock yard person said, they will rub and clean the rusting part and it will be fine.
I am adding photos here, can you guys please suggest with your experience if this issues can be ignored.

Also, i checked in engine compartment, there is no Mud protection kit installed by default, it is exactly same like 1st batch Zest. I have asked sales person to check and get the MIB kit before delivery and install it.

^^ it shouldn't have been opened in the first place. For your piece of mind go with another car even if you have to wait a few days and do ask him about the VIN number. It can be an old batch that's why it's rusted in places.

Dear Sannijain,

What is the odometer reading of the car? Don't take delivery with the rusted parts. Ask them to change all the rusted parts. Check the VIN number also. If the car was manufactured before March, 2015, you have reasons to hesitate and if it was manufactured before February, 2015, just reject the car and ask for a new one. Check for repaint also. You should look for color variations. It may become darker than the rest of the body if any part of the car was repainted. Touch and move your hand throughout the body of the car (specially at the corners). It should not have any depression or undulations. Ask the dealer to lift the car on ramp. Check the under body. It should not have any rusted component. I hope this helps.

Hello KB, First thanks for reply. Odometer shows only 10 KM, dealer has promised to rub and remove the rust from the rim and disk brakes. As per VIN card is manufactured in March 2015 only.

I could not verify the color variations properly as the car was very dirty due week long rain water dried on it. i did not feel for any dent or something..

is it possible to ask dealer to lift the car on ram and show us under body parts.. has any one checked it like that?

Hello Sannijain,

Manufacturing month is okay. But ask the dealer to change the rusted parts. You may request the dealer to raise the car. Otherwise, the ground clearance of Zest is quite high. You can try to have a look at the underbody.
