Re: Tata Zest XM (Revotron) Ownership Review

Hi All,

NOTE :
1. Colour on door pads of all variants changed to latte since OCT production confirmed.
2. Bought MUD FLAP, ZEST MATS, CAR CARE KIT and ORANGE PERFUME as accessories for Rs. 3227.
3. Mud inside engine bay issue seems to rectified on all variants and if not, TAT has made it mandatory for the dealers during the first service to install the corrective KIT.

Anand , Many congrats for your red beauty, really looks gorgeous in RED.

Regarding your point about Mud inside engine bay, did you check in your car if it has been rectified ?:help:
I was at the showroom 3 days back to finalize the color of my Zest and saw a Zest being prepared for delivery, i opened the bonnet and checked but this issue was not resolved. i took few snaps for the same.
Then i asked the showroom guy who was doing a PDI for this car about the issue , firstly i had to explain him about the issue, seems he was not aware of it and then i showed him he agreed to that but i did not get any satisfactory answer if this issue has been/will be resolved.
Anyone else have some idea about this?
Hi sagacious,

i don't know about new cars, mine was fixed mud in engine bay issue at dealer. One day dealer called me and asked to come to service center to fix the issue. It got fixed.

Re: Tata Zest XM (Revotron) Ownership Review

Hi All,

Very proud and happy to inform that I got delivery of my ZEST XM RT on 3rd December, 2014 from Hyson Motors, Thrissur Kerala. Please find below the delivery pics :

I cranked it up and could not realize the engine is started. So refined. I drove it out of the showroom and instantly fell in love with this beauty. The positives and negatives I found are as below :

POSITIVES :
1. It is so much fun and pleasure to hold that gorgeous steering wheel. One finger and thumb are enough to operate it. Very good feedback at higher speeds of 80 KMPH or so (Dint drive at higher speeds due to run in period restrictions).
2. The gear shifts are very slick and the throws are very easy and of medium/low distance.
3. Superb fit and finish and feels very premium. The cabin seems so much insulated from outside noise. In fact, the car seems to be like a premium car from C segment (I could feel similar to and even better than Volkswagon Vento that my uncle has on almost all fronts and even he agreed).
4. Inner space is more than enough for 5 people. My cousin,my friend and myself (all medium built at around 5.8-6 ft, 75-80 KG) could sit with space to spare on the rear bench.
5. AC is powerful and good and cools the cabin in no time in 2nd fan speed and medium temperature. Even rear passengers get good effect even though no rear vents and it was a very sunny and dry day here.
6. Suspension is superb and ride quality is commendable in bumpy and uneven roads.
7. Handbrake is very strong and holds the vehicle intact on a 60 degree incline with 4 passengers in it.
8. Harman system is unbelievable and gives such great quality and premium feel. Absolute treat to use it. Full volume of 30 shakes the passengers totally.
9. Steering mounted controls very easy to use and the call quality is just too good.
10. Sport mode is very "SPORTY"and "ZESTY" and city is pretty much optimal for normal drives.

NEGATIVES :

1. ECO mode is so laggy and can only be used when you want to just relax and keep the car in cruise speed of 80KM or so. Overbridges and inclines would be just about made possible to climb in eco mode with AC on (will test your patience).
3. Lack of storage spaces for water bottles. Even the cup holder provided not enough for 1 litre bottle.

Now, a word for the dealer, I could find them very cooperative and never was I left unattended whenever I entered the floor. Max 10 seconds for a rep to attend to me. They were very precise in their statements and timelines. The ASM was also so so good and never did they force me for anything including insurance and accessories. Informed me about arrival in yard (around 8 KMS from showroom) on saturday and arranged a TATA NANO as conveyance for to do PDI on monday. The SA accompanied me and asked me if I was convinced or needed something more. During delivery, they explained the basic features of music system and got my phone paired with it before leaving as a demo. They even tested the call quality and asked me if I was satisfied. Showed the spare wheel, and all other usual basic functions of the vehicle. They also said one thing, a couple of customers have had issues in petrol pumps and had wrong fuel filled in (diesel for revotron variants) and warned me saying since ZEST is new, petrol bunk sales guys are unaware and be careful.

Here are some PICS of my new BABE

AVG FE was shown as 8.5 KMPL now but it is too early to say anything. And I am not an expert driver and hence, cant comment now. More details on those fronts and about any other matters in coming days. Please let me know for any clarifications.

4. "333" confidence not available after DEC, 2014.
5. Prices to go up by at least 30 K after DEC, 2014 and with launch of BOLT.
Hai Anand. Congrats on your purchase.
Nice to see another Zest owner from Kerala. Other being @febinfrancis
Red Zest looks gorgeous, but as @DJ Bro suggested, try to get black alloys and it will be smoking hot[clap]

Wishing you many miles.[:)]

The details about the mud inside engine bay issue was conveyed by the ASM at the showroom. The technician said that the newer vehicles since Nov production or so are having the kit factory fitted. The ASM said they had received communication from TML saying to fix the correction kits if issue found or reported during first service and he finally said "You need not worry or think of it Sir, Its our burden not yours."

Yeah even I think so after such comments on TAI and my friends also suggesting the same. Will check it out during first service or so.

Re: Tata Zest XM (Revotron) Ownership Review

Guys,

Initial 200 KMS completed. I am thoroughly impressed with the vehicle. Night time lamp illumination seems to be okay and adequate enough in dark places but under street light on long straight highways, seems to be a little dull. Mileage of 15 KMPL for 100 kms 80% in ECO mode trip : ~80KM in small pocket roads (80% <= 3rd gear) and rest 20 KM in highways. Sure it ll go up after first service and once I drive better by at least 2-3 KMs which is really good. Music system is just too good. Phone syncing via bluetooth works like a charm. It also memorizes and detects any previously connected device in under 30 seconds which is awesome. More updates to follow.

Dear Anandsasi, congratulations on your new car and thanks for the initial review. Have you got such mileage figures with 100 percent use of AC?

Congrats for your new ride.
As Eco mode is bit sluggish to drive, please try to drive in city mode with AC in your next drives and let us know the FE figures.

Even I have booked and about to take delivery of Revotron XT. Just that I observed lot of heat coming from engine bay during PDI, and car was hot in 5 minutes of engine idle. I request forum members to throw some light if this is a case of turbo changed engines or mine is an exception.

Guys , i am not sure how much that's going to effect the performance of the car or any other issue will be linked with that i own a WagonR and it also gets heated in 3- 4 kms of run. Until the engine heating needle shows max 50%, i guess that should be fine.

But still members who have tested this on their own Zests, should comment.

Yes.. it is with 100% ac in medium fan speed and medium temperature setting..

Congrats for your new ride.
As Eco mode is bit sluggish to drive, please try to drive in city mode with AC in your next drives and let us know the FE figures.
Regarding other drive modes.. I think except sports mode it should not be too much different. Maybe 1-2 kmpl max.. I'll definitely try that though and update all of you

Regarding engine heating.. need not worry at all as the temperature gauge shows just 2 bars filled up even after 1 hour long non stop drives although the bonnet seems to be smoking and steaming[;)]

Congrats YOGIYOGESH for your new car..

Though I booked my car at VTR marketing HALDIA, I took my ZEST's delivery from that showroom. Overall my experience was very good and they made delivery of my car 2days prior to my expected delivery date, though I had to make a sacrifice on my choice of color. My first choice was Dune Beige, instead I had to go for Sky Grey which was my second choice due to unavailability of the Biege color at that time of my delivery. But, I donot regret my decision to go with Sky Greay instead of Dune Biege, truely speaking, sky grey also looks great. Coming to the main point; I am, so far, very satisfied with their service.

Heating should not be an issue. I have driven around 550 km till now, and engine temperature has never gone to red mark. Bonnet is bound to heat up, also as its a turbocharged, it needs to heat up quickly, as the turbocharger will be effective only when its heated up.

Re: Tata Zest XM (Revotron) Ownership Review

Done by 200 km with my Revotron XT variant.
95% on ECO mode which I really hated it. Most of the time I was looking at the Instant FE and changed my entire driving style.
Avg FE shown till now was 8.9 - 9.1 km-pl. And they said the first service is at 4500 km and my usage is around 200-400 km in a month. In this way, opting for a Revotron is a total disaster for me.
I should have gone for the Ciaz which had better mileage in Petrol.
