Re: Tata Zest XM (Revotron) Ownership Review

Hi All

Just wanted to check how much of concern is the gear stick vibration which is a problem lot of people have been claiming.
Also the absence of dead pedal. Is it really a big driving discomfort?

Hey, You are looking to a tata car. That's indeed surprising.
Tata Zest really changed the way people look at Tata Motors.
Yup, I was looking at Zest. But long waiting period has made me divert the choice to i20.
Family members asked me & my brother 'Tata car myal yak manas torsati' which in English means 'Why are you interested in Tata Car' ? I couldn't speak further. Looks like the Indica might be the last Tata car we might have ever owned.
Zest is a fantastic package though & I will keep recommending it to others though.

Nishant, I got my Zest XT Revotron 2 weeks back. Even my father was telling the same that why do you want to go with TATA. But when he saw the car, its quality and the features, he was very much happy with my selection. He was blown away with the features that Zest has got.

Dont move away from Zest just due to the waiting period. Its a wonderful car and you will not regret buying it and is worth the wait. I had to wait for 45 days to get it. I20 is a good car but that too has its issues. Just think over and take your family for a test drive and make them think.

It might seem that I work for TML, but actually I am so much happy with the car that I tell people to just have a feel of the car and then decide. Afterall they are taking it [lol]

Guys,
What kind of FE are you getting. I am looking to replace Figo Petrol and I am keen on Zest Petrol. FE is the main criteria. Then other things follow. Waiting period quoted by the dealer for XMS, XT variants is 1-1.5 months. That's ok as i can wait, which variant is VFM in Zest ?
Hey Guys,
Just joined this forum after few months of stealth browsing!
I took delivery of my Zest XT R90 in mid Oct. so its been more than a month of driving. i have been keeping a log of the fuel consumption since the date of delivery (infact i have kept log of my previous car for almost 8 years). and i always to Tankfull to tankfull ... so no errors there.
I have driven about 1800 km so far (ok 119 of those were before the delivery). have not crossed 100 KMPH as i am still doing the run-in as advised in the manual. i am getting FE of about 13.5-13.8 in city with 50% Eco mode. did a highway trip of about 270 km and the FE of that run was over 16 KMPL.
The trick is
1) be in the right gear and right rpm of about 1500
2)be light of the throttle.. do not press suddenly

i expect these FE to rise by about 1 - 2 after the first service. now that i have almost completed 2000 km, will start pushing the car for more fun. will know the FE in those conditions soon.

Regards

Right Kiran ji.. Moreover, the people at TATA seem to be listening to customer feedback as well now as is evident from change in colour of doorpad to latte based on feedback.

Meanwhile,my car to arrive at yard today. Highly excited [clap]

I am sure i20 will also be having similar waiting period.

If you couldn't speak further, just get your family members inside zest and after the TD, they won't be able to speak further.

We all Zest owners have faced similar reactions from family or friends. No one is spared from this. However, we all (if I take that liberty) feel that if we had listened to them and got some other car, we would have missed a lot.

Hello There. My experience so far is pretty much more than that I expected out of the car as well as the Tata After Sales. Vehicle has no complaints at all. And I guess the car runs pretty smooth when compared to any other car in this segment or a full size sedan. The NVH is pretty much unmatchable.
Have done 900 Kms so far, FE is at an avg of around 10 KM for the entire odo reading (Blame my driving style for the poor FE). Off late I have started going easy on the throttle and I am seeing a better FE reading on the trip meter.
There is one thing that I noticed. The SMS read out function is not working on my Connectnext system when connected with Bluetooth with my Iphone. Help me with suggestions on this one.

This is what I was looking for more than a month now. There are a few reviews which mention good FE and one of them has put a pic showing even 19.x but all of them are reporting the mileage of running the car on highway. City mileage is almost missing on internet. Maybe you are the first one who has driven the car for 1500+ KM. and shared the mileage.

Glad that you are getting acceptable FE. Congratulations ! It boosts my confidence to buy a zest.

I have to decide between Zest and Xcent. And mileage is the only bone of contention now. Quite a few people have reported a mileage of around 10 which is not acceptable. Even the post above this post is reporting the same. I have aproached Sales Representative of National Automobiles (Pune) and he has agreed to give me a few contacts who has bought Revotron. I am planning to speak to them to get more information on this matter. Otherwise, I am almost sold out on Zest.

Hi bridge,
and I missed mentioning that these figures are with 100% AC. I never drive without AC or windows rolled down. Never did with my previous car as well.
I would also like to mention that the FE indication matches with tankfull to tankfull readings (with a diff of 0.1 to 0.2 only). So you can depend upon it.
go for Zest is all that I can say!!!

Thanks cYclops, i was also looking for actual FE figures from ownership review. I guess ECO mode is the key to achieve that in B2B city traffic. I will be getting mine near 25th December, feeling excited now.[drive]

Hi Sagacious,
so you are really going to get a visit by Santa !![:)]
All the best!
i have a feeling that even with City or sports mode in city traffic one can extract good enough mileage. like i said earlier, keeping a light foot on the throttle is the key. the insta FE indication does help in keeping me in check. most of my initial 1000 km run was in city mode only. would be trying to run now in sports mode alone and see how it goes.
And i must remind you all to ensure proper idling before taking off and switching off to protect the turbo.
intend to start a separate thread on my ownership soon.
cheers !

Re: Tata Zest XM (Revotron) Ownership Review

Its really good to see so many Zest petrol cars in this forum. Many of you have reported encouraging fuel efficiency figures. I have booked my car with KB Motors, Kolkata. Last Saturday, I have taken a mileage test from them. It was arranged without any hassle, probably because I agreed to pay for the fuel. I drove the car on afternoon city roads, started around 3.00 pm. 4 persons including me was in the car. The car came to my house with full tank from the dealership. The car then reads 12 kms. I made it full tank again and it consumed 0.5 liters of petrol upto auto lock. Then, I reset the meter after full tank to zero and started to drive. I drove the car for 37.7 kms, among of which 10 kms was on relatively free roads (EM Bypass). I used the CITY mode for 80% and the ECO mode for 20% of the driving time. AC was on for all the time, however I switched off the car at traffic red signals. Temperature was 23.5 degree C and fan speed was 1. At the end of the journey, I made the car full tank again from the same fuel station and 3.5 liters of petrol was consumed. That reads the mileage as 10.77 kmpl. I maintained light foot on the accelerator pedal. The engine rpm never crossed 1500 for the entire period of time, mostly it remains within 1000 rpm. Its worth mentioning here, that my 11 years old Maruti Zen now delivers 15.5 kmpl on the same roads with 30 % use of AC. Do I need to modify my driving habits to have better FE from the Zest. Members please help me.
