Re: Tata Zest XM (Revotron) Ownership Review

@KBKolkata,

Thumbs up for your effort to take the mileage test and also to narrate the experience.

Hats off to your understanding. Ultimately, it is a poor mileage figure. But I guess it is because of the City mode. However, I am not sure if we can continuously use Eco inside a city. Maybe its not feasible to drive with very low pick up. Another reason could be very low running of the car, it ran only for 12KM so maybe in run-in period.

cYclops has reported a good mileage inside the city but most other people have reported it at around 10. This reports are actually adding to confusion.

Re: Tata Zest XM (Revotron) Ownership Review

Dear bridge, there is a misunderstanding. The car was a test drive car. It is three months old car and driven for 2600 kms total till last Saturday. The dealer made full tank nearby and set the trip meter as zero. The car reads 12 kms when it reached my house, which means the showroom is 12 kms away of my house. Thus I have concluded that the Zest delivers pathetic mileage in petrol. I am thinking to cancel my booking as the competition, swift desire and xcent delivers much better mileage than Zest, specially in petrol.

Re: Tata Zest XM (Revotron) Ownership Review

Ok. Understood.

But then after that 12km drive, when you got the petrol filled to full tank it took 0.5 liters. Does that mean that 12 Kms were yielded from 0.5 liters ? If that is the case, it gave a mileage of 24 ! :)

Btw, the only competition is between Xcent and Zest. Swift is old and tired. Xcent has mileage reports of 14 in city and 19 on highways.

However, I am still looking for more ownership reviews of Zest before I take a final call by mid of this month. I already requested Sales Representative to arrange phone numbers of a few Zest petrol owners. Its been two days and a reminder, I still have to hear from him.

Even I got surprised at the beginning. Immediately though I understood the matter. The dealer filled fuel more than auto lock, and I filled upto auto lock only. He was willing to compensate for this 12 kms distance. Thats why he have filled more than auto lock.

Roads here in Kolkata are very congested. Moreover, the public bus drivers and pedestrians don't have any traffic sense. Xcent will deliver 12 kms maximum here. I think Pune roads are relatively easy to drive. There you can expect slightly better mileage from zest. However it will still remain lower than Xcent.
But I must admit that the Zest is a very comfortable car to drive. I have not driven the Xcent but have experienced grand i10 and elite i20. Keeping those cars in mind, I may safely conclude that Zest is far better to drive than the Xcent, but that comes with a compromise on FE.

Hi KB Kolkata
Your effort to find out real FE is really appreciable.
I have one thought here, though i have not got my Zest till now but after TD of Zest and Xcent back to back i was much more impressed by Zest then Xcent and you also mentioned the same thing. Xcent is a real nice car no doubt and was my first choice before moving to Zest.
My simple calculation says if your monthly run is 500km (assumed, as you were going for Petrol) in Zest you will be shelling out to 300-400 bucks more for fuel per month.
My point is, if you see FE in City (where we shall drive most of the times) Xcent is just only 1-2 units better then Zest for which you might loose the fun to drive a better car.
Just a suggestion , anyway decision is yours.[:)]

Re: Tata Zest XM (Revotron) Ownership Review

Happy to see so much support for Zest.

Petrol is getting cheaper day by day. But this phenomenon will not last forever. Analysts predict a sharp bounce back of Crude prices in the second half of 2015. Today's news says that govt. is considering an excise hike on petrol by 2.x. So the party will not continue infinitely. Petrol is Gold in India.

If the fuel gets costlier in future, CNG is still an option. But Revotron having 3 modes, I am not sure if CNG is feasible. This thought leads to Xcent where there are no modes and 410 Ltr of boot is biggest among the peers.

Dear vaibhav, congratulations for your new car. Please start your ownership review and share your views about the car.
Dear Sagacious, my monthly running is 900 kms. Your point is correct. Infant, the major diffculty is that my wife has already finalised the Zest. Now it feels pretty impossible to change her mind.

Re: Tata Zest XM (Revotron) Ownership Review

Hi All,

Very proud and happy to inform that I got delivery of my ZEST XM RT on 3rd December, 2014 from Hyson Motors, Thrissur Kerala. Please find below the delivery pics :

I cranked it up and could not realize the engine is started. So refined. I drove it out of the showroom and instantly fell in love with this beauty. The positives and negatives I found are as below :

POSITIVES :
1. It is so much fun and pleasure to hold that gorgeous steering wheel. One finger and thumb are enough to operate it. Very good feedback at higher speeds of 80 KMPH or so (Dint drive at higher speeds due to run in period restrictions). [drive]
2. The gear shifts are very slick and the throws are very easy and of medium/low distance.
3. Superb fit and finish and feels very premium. The cabin seems so much insulated from outside noise. In fact, the car seems to be like a premium car from C segment (I could feel similar to and even better than Volkswagon Vento that my uncle has on almost all fronts and even he agreed).
4. Inner space is more than enough for 5 people. My cousin,my friend and myself (all medium built at around 5.8-6 ft, 75-80 KG) could sit with space to spare on the rear bench.
5. AC is powerful and good and cools the cabin in no time in 2nd fan speed and medium temperature. Even rear passengers get good effect even though no rear vents and it was a very sunny and dry day here.
6. Suspension is superb and ride quality is commendable in bumpy and uneven roads.
7. Handbrake is very strong and holds the vehicle intact on a 60 degree incline with 4 passengers in it.
8. Harman system is unbelievable and gives such great quality and premium feel. Absolute treat to use it. Full volume of 30 shakes the passengers totally. [glasses]
9. Steering mounted controls very easy to use and the call quality is just too good.
10. Sport mode is very "SPORTY"and "ZESTY" and city is pretty much optimal for normal drives.

NEGATIVES :

1. ECO mode is so laggy and can only be used when you want to just relax and keep the car in cruise speed of 80KM or so. Overbridges and inclines would be just about made possible to climb in eco mode with AC on (will test your patience).
3. Lack of storage spaces for water bottles. Even the cup holder provided not enough for 1 litre bottle.

Now, a word for the dealer, I could find them very cooperative and never was I left unattended whenever I entered the floor. Max 10 seconds for a rep to attend to me. They were very precise in their statements and timelines. The ASM was also so so good and never did they force me for anything including insurance and accessories. Informed me about arrival in yard (around 8 KMS from showroom) on saturday and arranged a TATA NANO as conveyance for to do PDI on monday. The SA accompanied me and asked me if I was convinced or needed something more. During delivery, they explained the basic features of music system and got my phone paired with it before leaving as a demo. They even tested the call quality and asked me if I was satisfied. Showed the spare wheel, and all other usual basic functions of the vehicle. They also said one thing, a couple of customers have had issues in petrol pumps and had wrong fuel filled in (diesel for revotron variants) and warned me saying since ZEST is new, petrol bunk sales guys are unaware and be careful.

Here are some PICS of my new BABE [cheers]

AVG FE was shown as 8.5 KMPL now but it is too early to say anything. And I am not an expert driver and hence, cant comment now. More details on those fronts and about any other matters in coming days. Please let me know for any clarifications.

NOTE :
1. Colour on door pads of all variants changed to latte since OCT production confirmed.
2. Bought MUD FLAP, ZEST MATS, CAR CARE KIT and ORANGE PERFUME as accessories for Rs. 3227.
3. Mud inside engine bay issue seems to rectified on all variants and if not, TAT has made it mandatory for the dealers during the first service to install the corrective KIT.
4. "333" confidence not available after DEC, 2014.
5. Prices to go up by at least 30 K after DEC, 2014 and with launch of BOLT.

Congrats and happy Zesting over thousands of miles![clap]
Zest looks seriously HOT and awesome in Red! My favorite color!
The original XT alloys, if blackened, would have added up to a seriously smoking hot looking car!
Planning any mods ji? At-least blackening the current alloys?[;)]

Anand , Many congrats for your red beauty, really looks gorgeous in RED.

Regarding your point about Mud inside engine bay, did you check in your car if it has been rectified ?:help:
I was at the showroom 3 days back to finalize the color of my Zest and saw a Zest being prepared for delivery, i opened the bonnet and checked but this issue was not resolved. i took few snaps for the same.
Then i asked the showroom guy who was doing a PDI for this car about the issue , firstly i had to explain him about the issue, seems he was not aware of it and then i showed him he agreed to that but i did not get any satisfactory answer if this issue has been/will be resolved.
Anyone else have some idea about this?
