Re: Tata Kite Compact Sedan (Indigo eCS Replacement)
The major problem is that both the X0 and X1 platforms are now dated as they are a bit heavier. For example the swift on the old platform weighs nearly 100 kgs than X1 platform hatch. Now the Baleno, made on the next gen platform is nearly 100 kgs lighter than the Swift platform. So, now the Bolt is now about 200 kgs heavier that the Baleno which is a little bigger than the Bolt.
Similarly the Indica is based on the X0 platform and currently weighs around 980kgs with 4 cylinder engine. Now the Kite hatch appears smaller then the Indica. So expect some natural reduction in weight. Now engine is a 3 cylinder so some more weight chopped due to a lesser cylinder. Now if TML engineers could get the Kite's weight down by about 80-120 kgs to around 920-930 kgs, then the magic is done and the car will be fuel efficient and all efforts are paid off. With the 3 cly Aluminium engine petrol car may weigh around 850-870 kgs.
So TATA needs to reduce weight to remain competitive and hence lighter and newer platforms are demand of the day if they have to remain in the fray. Hence X4 or X5 modular platforms should be ready on time by 2018-19
I dont this so that TATA replace X1 platform with all new moduler platform for next gen BOLT/ZEST in my view point current X1 platform is capable to swap any body style and TATA wont pull covers on their platforms so early and we all know too how they use old platforms extensively in new cars.
I can sure expect TATA's full sedam will be based on X1 platform because TATA's market presence is not big as like SUZUKI ,HONDA and Hyundai to expertise on all new platforms TATA Alwasy wanted to swap more number cars using single platform to save on R&D investment.
comming back to TATA Kite platforms it seems like it built on entirely new architecture using X0 platform as a base, So we may guess TATA Transformed TATA X0 platform into a Compact moduler platform if this true then its a good idea to expect more number of cars based on this and TATA already expertised several body styles on X0 platfrom, So it may fallow same legecy on new rebuid X0 too
