Re: Tata Kite Compact Sedan (Indigo eCS Replacement)

I dont this so that TATA replace X1 platform with all new moduler platform for next gen BOLT/ZEST in my view point current X1 platform is capable to swap any body style and TATA wont pull covers on their platforms so early and we all know too how they use old platforms extensively in new cars.

I can sure expect TATA's full sedam will be based on X1 platform because TATA's market presence is not big as like SUZUKI ,HONDA and Hyundai to expertise on all new platforms TATA Alwasy wanted to swap more number cars using single platform to save on R&D investment.

comming back to TATA Kite platforms it seems like it built on entirely new architecture using X0 platform as a base, So we may guess TATA Transformed TATA X0 platform into a Compact moduler platform if this true then its a good idea to expect more number of cars based on this and TATA already expertised several body styles on X0 platfrom, So it may fallow same legecy on new rebuid X0 too
The major problem is that both the X0 and X1 platforms are now dated as they are a bit heavier. For example the swift on the old platform weighs nearly 100 kgs than X1 platform hatch. Now the Baleno, made on the next gen platform is nearly 100 kgs lighter than the Swift platform. So, now the Bolt is now about 200 kgs heavier that the Baleno which is a little bigger than the Bolt.

Similarly the Indica is based on the X0 platform and currently weighs around 980kgs with 4 cylinder engine. Now the Kite hatch appears smaller then the Indica. So expect some natural reduction in weight. Now engine is a 3 cylinder so some more weight chopped due to a lesser cylinder. Now if TML engineers could get the Kite's weight down by about 80-120 kgs to around 920-930 kgs, then the magic is done and the car will be fuel efficient and all efforts are paid off. With the 3 cly Aluminium engine petrol car may weigh around 850-870 kgs.

So TATA needs to reduce weight to remain competitive and hence lighter and newer platforms are demand of the day if they have to remain in the fray. Hence X4 or X5 modular platforms should be ready on time by 2018-19

without knowing indepth specs we can not consider these platforms are dated coming to the point of weight its different story TATA uses strong steel body panels instead of tin and filmsy sheet matel like maruti and hyundai does we have to make sure that weight difference betweem maruti and tata just about 100 to 150kgs only thats because of thinkness of the matel

Maruti Alto platform is 3decades old with minor modifications under the skin and no one comment about it but when it comes TATA then why people raises their voice [surprise]

and Finally X0 platform will surely weight under 850kgs atleast because TATA doing some major makeover for this platform using lighter and stiffer materials so lets we judge after unviel of offcial specs of TATA Kite and I could expect similar make for TATA X1 platform that underpins the upcoming TATA's Baby SUV NEXON

Re: Tata Kite Compact Sedan (Indigo eCS Replacement)

X0 dates back to late 90s. So can be considered dated. But 'as per reports' Kite is based on updated X0 platform, which can be used for another decade.

BUT X1, although it looks similar, is all new (as per reports). So this platform is in no way outdated. These are not phones we are talking about here, which becomes outdated in 6 months. A platform has a life cycle of atleast a decade.

Now the modular platform. If TATA is building one, I guess it will be to sit above the Bolt. It makes sense, as there are not many products in that space. And since its a modular platform, when time comes for replacement of the Bolt, it can spawn next-gen Bolt.

AMP- modular platform will be in two categories and the lower one for hatchback and sedans might see light in 2017-18 which will be used for premium hatchback and cuv's including sedan. Till then X1 will serve the purpose if am not wrong[:)]

Source : Tata Kite hatchback global unveil on 3 December: Report

After many launches during the festive season, the automobile industry is gearing up for year-end car launches. Among those waiting to be launched, the Tata Kite hatchback has created a huge buzz, being the global car from Tata motors and endorsed by star footballer Lionel Messi.

Though the launch of the Kite hatchback was rumored in December, there was no information on a possible date. A report from Shifting-gears claims the launch of Tata's new hatchback is scheduled on 3 December. It was previously reported that Tata Motors would commence the production of the Kite from its factory in Sanand, Gujarat, in December.

Kite, the replacement of Tata's ageing Indica, underpins the X0 platform and is expected to get a fresh styling, unlike any other current Tata passenger cars. Tata recently announced the arrival of the new Kite through a promotional video of the company, featuring the brand's new face — Argentinean footballer and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi. The video, "Made of Great", also gave an early glimpse of the new Tata Kite. From the video, it appears that the hatchback will get a signature front grille with smoked headlamp and a fresh rear-end styling.

Tata Kite is likely to include a new 1.05-litre three-cylinder common-rail diesel motor that can churn out 64.1bhp and 140Nm of torque and an all-new 1.2-litre petrol engine. The Kite is speculated to get an e-clutch system similar to AMT that allows drivers to use manual transmission for the first gear without using the clutch.

The Kite will lock horn with the Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the Hyundai Grand i10 in India. The hatchback will be followed by the Kite compact sedan in 2016.

Re: Tata Kite Compact Sedan (Indigo eCS Replacement)

Tata Kite Compact Sedan could make an all-new segment

If priced as low as Rs 4 lakhs, the upcoming Tata Kite Compact Sedan could shake up the automotive segment by creating an all new segment and give Tata Motors a much needed boost in the minds of the Indian car buying audiences

Tata has always managed to carve out a segment where there never existed before. It was the first Indian automobile maker to adapt to the sub 4-meter problem when it launched the Indigo CS and of course, everyone is well versed with what the Tata Nano has done. Now though, there is another product that could very well give Tata another much needed push.

The Tata Kite hatchback is just around the corner and from what our sources tell us, will be priced at a mouthwatering Rs 3.5 lakhs onwards in order to take on everything else in that price segment while still offering a larger car with more gizmos. In a way then, just as the original Indica, the new Kite will also be ‘More Car Per Car’. But the Kite hatchback is not the car that is bound to send shockwaves. That, we think, could be done by the Kite Compact Sedan.

The Tata Kite Compact Sedan will be based on the Kite hatch as obvious and will have the same running gear and interiors. On the engine front, the Kite compact sedan will get two brand new engines that have been made inhouse by the Tata Motors engine works. The Kite compact sedan will get a 1.2-litre petrol engine that is expected to make in the region of 85PS of peak power and about 110Nm of peak torque.

The Kite compact sedan will also get a 1.0-litre turbocharged diesel motor that is said to make just under 70PS of peak power and about 140Nm of peak torque. The engine will essentially be a three cylinder of the tried and tested 1.4-litre turbo diesel that has been doing its duty in the Indica and the Indigo CS for the last few years. The diesel is expected to return over 25kmpl in terms of fuel mileage.

From what reports indicate, the Kite compact sedan could be priced as low as Rs 4.0 lakhs for the base model petrol and about Rs 4.5 lakhs for the base model diesel. The Kite compact sedan will effectively be the cheapest sedan in India when launched. What this could mean is that Tata could carve out an all new entry level compact sedan segment that does not exist today. This could force manufacturers like Maruti and Hyundai to bring about smaller and cheaper compact sedans based on the likes of the Wagon R/Celerio and the i10.

This could also mean that car buyers who would generally opt for something like a Wagon R could seriously consider the Kite compact sedan as it will only be a slight price difference with the added benefits of a fully functional boot. And considering the fact that Indian audiences love sedans as much as they love SUVs, the Kite compact sedan could be an unexpected success for Tata Motors.

My God... CS based on Wagon R/Celerio. It will be worse than the ugly dzire. Cant even digest of it.

Kite will for sure change the perception of Tata motors among the public.
I think Celerio based Compact sedan works well if maruti change C-piller design with floating roof lines like TATA doing in kite CS

how many of you like to see TATA badge hologram below the TATA LOGO in their products we all know that TATA stopped badging TATA hologram below the T logo in their recent cars like TATA NANO/BOLT/ZEST/Storme but i think without TATA hologram TATA logo looks some what odd specially at rear on tailgate

GBR, TATA is kind of following Suzuki's path. In S-Cross and Baleno, except for the tilted "s" logo on boot door and model's name, Suzuki hasn't applied any badge of "SUZUKI" or "Maruti Suzuki". Moreover, Suzuki has gone a step ahead by not mentioning the variant even in their cars i.e S-Cross or Baleno.[:D]
