Tata Kite to get Diesel AMT – EXCLUSIVE

The upcoming Tata Kite (codename) was expected to come with an AMT, like the Tata Zest, however, we have information that the Kite will come with an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) in its diesel variant.


Tata will be sourcing the AMT unit from Magnetti Marelli, a Fiat group company and the Kite will be the first diesel car in its segment to feature an AMT. Tata wants to cater to the urban diesel car buyers and the demand for AMTs is growing by the day. However, as of now AMT cars in the B & C segments are only found in petrol variants and hence Tata is introducing an AMT in its diesel version.

The Kite will be placed between the Indica eV2 and the Bolt. This will be a direct competition to the Hyundai i10, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the Chevrolet Beat. The AMT will be mated to a 1.05-litre diesel engine. TheKite will be made available in a 1.2-litre petrol engine also.

Can't wait to see these two cars from Tata. Using Bolt Revotron from last 4 months, I am sure both these cars will be another genuine effort from Tata and they are leaving no stone unturned to make their products better. All the best Tata Motors

If I am right Kite will be a compact sedan, so why the comparison is with hatchbacks ?

Writing a review is in my to-do list for this dushera leaves. Hope I will be able to compile it soon. It should help people who are considering this product but are not able to trust due to lack of ownership review in any forum

I think it will be priced same as the Indica eV2. The reason, it is to replace Indica and should be economical.

Indica eV2 will cater to the taxi segment and Glade to the passenger segment.

Congratulations for your bolt. Please share your ownership review here with fellow members. I am yet to see a bolt ownership review.



If I am right Kite will be a compact sedan, so why the comparison is with hatchbacks ?
TATA Kite will be available in two body styles Hatchback and Compact NotchBack style

why does it take tata so long to get the vehicle ready? Even MM who started later are more responsive and seem to be able to make all new models ? Are they being cautious given overall market conditions?

I think Kwid is the reason for delay.
Tata might want to judge the market first then launch the kite may be sedan first.

Sedan first strategy has not been proven successful for Tata with zest and bolt. And, it won't be a surprise if the same happens with Aspire and Figo. Tata shouldn't repeat the grave mistake.

Bolt was delayed as Tata never wanted that zest to be recognized as another indigo or upgraded car from indica family. As Bolt is suffering because of resemblance with Indica Vista.

Wherein Kite would be a different story as it's a clean sheet design except the platform that to a minimal(assumption).

Still I see a glimpse of Indica family in kite, bolt and zest. Even the nano has a hint of indica's design. further, commercial vehicles like ace and ace zip have a little touch of the same design. Tata should come out of this, and should use some design expertise of their subsidiary JLR, same as they used while designing storme.

It might be because in Zest they used the same glass area and the smiley grill plays the spoil sport here.

However in Kite the resemblance might come from A pillars as it seems they are still using the same (vista A pillar design) and which as well is the USP read interior space. Maybe am guessing. Let's see..

I would still say; Tata bring Prima car concept to reality and see the sales... But Tata...

ZEST....not much, but BOLT.... spot on. I agree. esp the C Pillar on the BOLT or else they it could have made an impact.

Some how .... Do not agree on the Kite twins.
I cannot, at least as per spy shots and rendering somehow cannot find the resemblance of the Indica family.

Maybe we can see it in the actual display. But hope we do not see any.

knock knock knock.

Therz something called family design language in the automobile industry. Therz a reason why all the Audis look the same. All the BMWs look the same. All the Mercs look the same. [;)]
to add to it all hyundais from lower spectrum to highest spectrum look the same. So do the renaults. From Kiwd to duster to Kadjar.
