Re: Tata Kite Compact Sedan (Indigo eCS Replacement)

I will really be disappointed if Tata Motors opts to introduce the new 1.2L engine with such a low power output of less than 70 PS even when they have ability to match competition's numbers with around 85 PS. If they do so, they will be spoiling their image further of producing inferior technology.

The Kite being based on the Indica platform, is not expected to be as light as the Celerio or the Wagon-R. It will need higher power output to pull itself with competitive acceleration.
How come low power output=inferior technology??

Same engine can be tuned to deliver different power/torque parameters. Sometimes with just a remapped ECU.

And when was the last time people considered '0-100 time' when buying a small car?? Yes weight has been a TATA issue, but they more than makeup for it by being better safety wise compared to the competition (structural safety).

Indica platform, well. Unofficial news is that TATA will use updated indica floorpan. So cant make much of it can you!

Sir,

When it comes to Indian companies specially Tata its inferior technology and if big brand does it-its a wise decision......

I don't know when would this change. Sometimes we ask unrealistic things from our very own homegrown companies.

Re: Tata Kite Compact Sedan (Indigo eCS Replacement)

I guess upcoming tata kite will be lighter in kerb weight maybe 900 to 950kgs or below because its based on TATA Indica platform its XETA Version kerb weight is 980kgs remember indica xeta comes with Cast iron block engine and hydrolic power steering both these things makes car heavier then but but comming back to tata kite its different story its equiped with lighter materials alluminium petrol and and electronic power assisted steering main this two things makes much lighter.

So if TATA Kite petrol engine produces 70 to 75bhp power and 100NM to 105NM torquee with kerb weight under 920kgs then its pretty sure that drives smooth

An interesting conversation: my uncle asked me to help him chose a car for him and another uncle sitiing next said "Tata ka to apna steel plant hai tabhi to woh kanjoosi nahi karte cars main [lol]" and when I told him the kind of steel used in cars and even Tata outsource it, he was stunned although he is a technical person and a fleet owner with 20+ trucks and trailer and few cars aswell.

their own steel or not, its a different matter all together.

TATA steel also make automotive grade steel. So may be they use their own steel.

Weight doesnt make a car safe. So more steel is not equal to safer car. Most modern cars come with plastic fenders at the front. And they score better in crash tests than all metal counterparts.

Its the skeleton of the car that matters the most. The main structure. Not the skin. If we remember, TATA Xenon in Aussie NCap scored a lowly 2 due to lack of electronic safety aids. But the structural safety score was better than the higher priced rivals from Mitsubishi and Toyota (or was it proton).

The point I am making is TATA make reasonably safe cars. And the weight has nothing to do with it. They can lose weight in many other areas. They are a new company by all means, and this is a part of the learning curve for TATA and its component manufacturers. As we know TATAs foray into car manufacturing spawned many home grown component manufacturing units too. They too are in the process of learning.

A decade or two from now, may be, people will not be ashamed of owning a TATA. For now though, TATA will have people like me buying their products one after the other.[;)]

+1 to that.

yeah count me as well. Against all odds, we have 2 tatas (one indigo which is sold after clocking 1.35 lakh km, in 6 years) Currently storme at 22K 2 years.

I would say fuss free ownership and loads of joy riding.[clap]

Tata Kite Interiors spied again:

The interiors of the Kite have been spotted again and this time it is of the production ready car. As the Kite launch is closing in, we can see more images of this new hatchback’s exterior and interior. If we peep in the interiors, it has the new Tata steering wheel with audio controls on it and even voice command.

The Tata Kite twins will get integrated music system with Bluetooth, USB and aux-connectivity. The Kite twins will be getting a completely new dashboard with a modern centre console. It appears to be piano black and the dashboard is black and beige. The interiors do look premium despite being based on the Indica and Indigo platform.

These twins will be launched in October/November and will be priced at Rs 4-8 lakhs (ex-showroom). The Kite will be sold only to private car buyers and not for commercial purpose. The Kite twins will be sold with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.05-litre diesel engine. These will be highly fuel-efficient. Tata Motors will be launching the Kite and even retaining the Indica eV2 and Indigo eCS.

Tata had launched the Bolt this year and next in line will be the Tata Kite twins. The compact sedan is likely to be the first one to come in, if the company decides to have different launches for the Kite twins.

It seems that Tata Kite has Zest like premium touch screen entertainment system and also in the previous posts on this forum, the non touch screen like in XM variants of Zest. So top variant Kite with touch screen and lower variants with non touch screen.

Updated crash test of Australian ANCAP test results were done in 2014. The TATA Xenon scored 4 star rating. So the Xenon is more safe than most Pick ups sold in Australia, including our Indian counterpart Mahindra.

Absolutely! TATA is still a young boy compared to many car companies. But still I think it is the youngest car company in the world which is sold in many countries across trhe world.

Remember that TATA is the only indigenous car maker from India. (Mahindra makes only SUVs). They are still in the nascent stage and has successfully marketed them. Car market is much more fierce than low cost SUVs and where no multinational has entered. That's the plus point for Mahindra.

September and October are good months if you're in game for a new car. I'm hoping that kite release in a lower category than bolt. With the amount of response Bolt is getting. Tata maybe thinking to remove bolt and replacing with the kite twin. then the line up will be linear.

yes, that is how it should be done. Bolt is pretty much a new car however, stark resemblance to vista is proved to be bane for it. any modification to the same would still prove to be useless. Its only the word of mouth that would help bolt.

What Tata is doing is developing new car on Nexon platfom is a good strategy

Tata's new Kite twins will be launched around the festive season this year and recently we had got the interior images of this new hatchback. The Kite petrol will be the 1.2-litre petrol engine, however this won’t be turbocharged, but it shall be naturally aspirated. This is the same enginethat powers the Zest and the Bolt, however there will be no turbocharger on them. diesel engine will be the 1.05-litre CR4engine, which is the three-cylinder version of the existing 1.4-litre CR4 that already powers the Indica eV2 and the Indigo eCS. This engine will produce about 63bhp of power. Supposedly, the diesel engine is likely to have a fuel efficiency between 27-30km/l.

The Kite will have black interiors and an infotainment system which is similar to the Zest and Bolt. The system shall offer connectivity through SD Card, Bluetooth, USB and Aux-in.

Alongwith the integrated music system at least on the top-of-the-line variant, it will also feature steering mounted audio controls, power windows, electrically adjustable ORVMs and mostly even voice commands.
