Re: Tata Kite Compact Sedan (Indigo eCS Replacement)

Are you sure about Bolt's engine or it's a new NA petrol engine??
that is what seems to be quoted on the website. Well it makes sense to. Offer the highest powered hatch in segment using bolt engines. with multiple modes. The revotron engine is not running for past 1 year in close to 20k car ( assuming 50% of falcons have revotron) and that revotron have no issues so far being reported. Its good to have a tried and tested engine as an offering as well.

It is brand new 1.2NG is a 3 clyinder all aluminium Revotron engine developed from scratch.

The 1.2T is a 4 cylinder iron block engine is an old one but completley redone in the Bolt.

I checked the patent site, not any of the parts or engine design related to kite filled there. I could see bolt sport bumper and Hexa patents.

Re: Tata Kite Compact Sedan (Indigo eCS Replacement)

The specs of this new engine are pretty good. On par with that of the competition. Hopefully it will be equally fuel efficient too. Not that the 1.2T Revotron engine is bad. In fact I was surprised at the fuel efficiency numbers achieved by owners of Bolt & Zest with their Revotron powered cars. The low-end torque offered by the Turbo-charged motors can be used intelligently to garner good fuel efficiency numbers.

But i guess we may expect detuned of 3Cylinder 1.2L Revotron NG engine kite because of segment positioning maybe in kite the engine produces 67bhp to 75bhp and 90NM to 100NM torque without VVT

Interesting pic found from another forum. Can't be true but why??

I have a different thought here as if they downsize the engine with no turbo then it has to be VVT otherwise they can't compete with the rivals as they need extra to be successful.

There will be variants o this engine too. An MPFI and an MPFI Turbo Charged variant. Also expect a cylinder added to make it a 4 cyl 1600 cc developing 140-160 BHP for the next gen sedan may be by 2018-19.

I hope the latter be a reality.

TATA 3Cylinder 1.2L 16Valves DOHC all aluminium Revotron NG is available in made in two versions

1st one is 1.2L Smart VVT produces 85bhp and 115NM torque

2nd one is 1.2L smart VVT Turbocharged produces 115bhp and 175NM torque

but according to my knowledge tata kite engine comes without VVT technology to keep low cost but compare to Celerio its still higher figures

Just a correction.
1.2 L 3 CYL engine comes with 12 valves (3cyl X 4 Valves per cyl = 12 valves)

1st one is 1.2L Smart VVT produces 85bhp and 115NM torque

2nd one is 1.2L smart VVT Turbocharged produces 115bhp and 175NM torque

1.2 MPFI will produce 65-70 BHP @ 90nm Torque with 4 valves per clyinder layout. But to reduce power TML may also take the two valve route as it is a larger engine (compared to celerio and WagonR) and reduce costs, weight and also power.

But as against the iron block engines, it should be lighter around the weight of Maruti Celerio.

lets see what has TATA in store for us. Maybe in a month things should get clearer.

Re: Tata Kite Compact Sedan (Indigo eCS Replacement)

I will really be disappointed if Tata Motors opts to introduce the new 1.2L engine with such a low power output of less than 70 PS even when they have ability to match competition's numbers with around 85 PS. If they do so, they will be spoiling their image further of producing inferior technology.

The Kite being based on the Indica platform, is not expected to be as light as the Celerio or the Wagon-R. It will need higher power output to pull itself with competitive acceleration.

It's just a sake of Indica platform as they are only using few things from it ie floor pan, pedal bowl(clutch, break n acceleration pan and few more things not the whole platform. And would be pretty light.

dont expect 2valves per cylinder in all new 1.2L 3cylinder engine but with think for sure tata kite comes with only 4valves per cylinder DOHC configuration without VVT

maybe there should be only one reason behind lower power specs of kite to keep power difference between tata kite and tata bolt

Re: Tata Kite Compact Sedan (Indigo eCS Replacement)

If all this true then why not a single design patent filled for kite till now... Pretty strange and they started pre production for it????

Or it got patented three years ago as I checked for last more than a year in the indian design patent.

Saarji there is a ishmaal catch here.

A bigger engine is a bigger engine, no matter what these small capacity babies are producing. The 1.2 furnished above is a tall stroke large capacity motor and hence it will have a torque delivery that none of these 1.0 or 1.1l N/A engines can match and yes, I am talking about the N/A engine.

Havent got my point? Well, go and drive an i20, Etios and Jazz side by side. It's because of the 1.5l mill under the hood, the way Etios pulls out cleanly from any situation is simply unmatched by Jazz and i20. An another such example is second gen Honda City, merely 77 horses from its 1.5l motor and it could beat the hell out of a 1.3l, 85 bhp and lighter weighing Swift any day. In fact it had a brilliant torque spread too.

The point is that kite maybe heavier too but the wider spread torque of this 1.2l motor can help here and if hey mate it with slightly shorter gears, things may give good results.
