Re: Tata Kite Compact Sedan (Indigo eCS Replacement)
I will really be disappointed if Tata Motors opts to introduce the new 1.2L engine with such a low power output of less than 70 PS even when they have ability to match competition's numbers with around 85 PS. If they do so, they will be spoiling their image further of producing inferior technology.
The Kite being based on the Indica platform, is not expected to be as light as the Celerio or the Wagon-R. It will need higher power output to pull itself with competitive acceleration.
Saarji there is a ishmaal catch here.
A bigger engine is a bigger engine, no matter what these small capacity babies are producing. The 1.2 furnished above is a tall stroke large capacity motor and hence it will have a torque delivery that none of these 1.0 or 1.1l N/A engines can match and yes, I am talking about the N/A engine.
Havent got my point? Well, go and drive an i20, Etios and Jazz side by side. It's because of the 1.5l mill under the hood, the way Etios pulls out cleanly from any situation is simply unmatched by Jazz and i20. An another such example is second gen Honda City, merely 77 horses from its 1.5l motor and it could beat the hell out of a 1.3l, 85 bhp and lighter weighing Swift any day. In fact it had a brilliant torque spread too.
The point is that kite maybe heavier too but the wider spread torque of this 1.2l motor can help here and if hey mate it with slightly shorter gears, things may give good results.
